2009 MLB Playoffs

LOL! :D Wasn't that over some meaningless game in Arizona or something?
No...

The Torre one was over his handling of the pitching staff for the entire year, and I was correct. His bullpen was used more than any other in baseball

The Dodgers season being over one was a prediction I made before they started to fall. They did fall, as I said they would, they just did not fall as much as I thought they would. I was wrong in my prediction, but I was not wrong in my foresight of them starting to tumble.

You really should have included the second paragraph of his article:

If this sounds dismissive of the National League, it isn’t. There will still be a World Series regardless of who wins the ALCS. But if you’re looking for the series with the most buzz and the biggest chance of producing the kind of baseball you’ll remember forever, it’s Yankees-Angels.

Changes the perspective.

Well, look at it this way...the $$$ folks all want a Dodgers/Yankees World Series. It would not only be the obviously most popular choice but the drama with Joe returning to the Yankees, etc, etc.

That being said, what matchup possibly leading to that series would bring the most interest? I.E. Ratings, advertisement $$$, etc...

Phillies or Rockies vs. Dodgers where we'd better pray for a Phillies win or there will be very little interest.

Angels vs. Yankees with cross-country interest plus the drama of whether or not the Yankees can break their jinx against the Angels in the post season.

I think the choice is obvious.

P.S. Every year there seems to be a playoff matchup that has more interest and/or drama than the actual World Series itself. This year is no different...unless it does wind up being a Yankees/Dodgers World Series.

I feel so sad for Anaheim only able to finally beat the Redsox in a playoff series after so many losses winning a series against the Redsox just unable to get motivated for the Angels . If the Redsox had health Matzuzaka , and management had not brought in the trouble of Smoltz & Penny , and allowed Buchholz and Bard playing full time Anaheim would have been sent on vacation with ease .
But it is what it is and good Luck to the Anaheim Yahoo's . If they don't win the World series its all for not .

Stop it, PLEASE!

Forget about 2004, 2007 or 2008. THIS is 2009.

The BETTER team won. Period and exclamation point.

There are NO excuses or shame in that.

From a subplot standpoint, here's what I look at in the ALCS:

Teixeira faces the team he was with last fall

Anaheim's revved-up offense is capable of matching the Yankes starting nine

Closers- reliable Rivera vs. the up-and-down-at-times Fuentes

The Angels going from a team they had previously had trouble with in the playoffs to a team they have fared very well against in the playoffs

Good hitters on both lineups

The two highest-scoring teams in baseball (team with most homers vs. the team with the highest batting average).

To a man, every interview I have seen and/or read by a member of the Red Sox organization has been a classy, cut and dry "We didn't get it done and a tip of my cap to the Angels". Even Paps impressed me with what he had to say standing at his locker with a thousand people around him.

See you guys next season and I know you'll give us the usual rough time game in and game out!:hatsoff:

Let's scrap that. We have seen Tex enough times now that he is just another ex-Angel and the Bullsh!t has worn off. The subplot here is the hard-slugging Kendry "Bam Bam" Morales who was a virtual nobody taking over 1B after Alvin left. He has made every Angel fan forget about Casey Kotchman (whom we all loved) and Alvin with his powerful bat. Plus, he plays a pretty damn good 1B.

As a neutral fan (which obviously I've been reduced to :( :D), I always root for the best possible matchup in the World Series. Two good teams that are evenly matched, that will hopefully give us a 6 or 7 game series.

IMO, that matchup this year would be Angels-Phillies.

I just don't think the Phillies match up well with the Yankees, or the Dodgers or Rockies match up well with either the Angels or Yankees.

Monday's Playoff Game on TBS/TBS-HD

Phillies (Lee) at Rockies (Jimenez) - NLDS Game 4 - 6:07pm ET

To I'm sure no one's surprise, it will be Lackey vs. Sabathia as the ALCS gets underway Friday night in the Bronx.

Game time is 7:30 ET on Fox/Fox-HD.

Once again, a League Division Series game goes head to head with Monday Night Football.

The last few years this has happened, it's made for great theatre:

2007- Cowboys/Bills and Indians/Yankees were incredibly dramatic games.

Last year- Angels/Red Sox had a thrilling finish, and Vikings/Saints was one of the most bizarre games I've ever seen.

(Still, the grandaddy of them all was 2003- Boston beat Oakland in heart-attack fashion, and the Colts beat the Bucs with a comeback for the ages)

Maybe we'll get two great games tonight. The pattern is a good sign.

The baseball game should be winding down sometime in the first quarter of the Jets-Dolphins game (barring extra innings).

I'm hoping for a Phillies win for two reasons:

  1. This will give them a long time off as well, so the Dodgers won't be the only rusty team
  2. I think the Dodgers will have a better chance against the Phils than the Roxs. Even though they have handled the Roxs, the post season is a different season all together. The Phils have a lot of weakness past Lee and in their bullpen. The Roxs have a much better solid pitching staff from all starters to their bullpen.

DK,

That is why I am thrilled the Yankees won last night. Now both the Angels and Yankees will have equal amount of days off before the start of the ALCS.

And, BTW, I in no way meant to cheapen the NLCS. You know I'll be watching that very closely. Maybe a Freeway Series is in store for us.

Good lord please no more washed up pitchers with trumped up expectations.

or having old players like Henderson throwing the first pitch to remind the angels of 1986 LOL... didn't work this time Bostonians LMAO
