2008 Pennant Races

I just saw that the Brew Crew scored 4 in the bottom of the 10th and won 5-1. We are all tied up!!
You may think I'm being baised but I think the Mets have a better chance of winning the wildcard than the Brewers. I think the Cubs are better than the Marlins. I also think the Mets want some revenge from last year. I also think that the Brewers are going to burn Sabathia out which might be an advantage for the Mets.

I think both the Mets and Brewers take 2 of 3 this weekend, and the Brewers-Mets have a 1 game playoff Monday night at Shea.

Twins sweep the White Sox!!! Minny scores in the bottom of the 10th and wins, 7-6.

AL CENTRAL UPDATE

Minnesota................87-72........................-
Chicago....................86-72......................0.5

REMAINING SCHEDULES

Twins- Kansas City (F-Sa-Su)

White Sox- Cleveland (F-Sa-Su) and Monday vs. Detroit IF either the Twins or the White Sox have a half game lead after the conclusion of Sunday's games.

IF the Twins and White Sox are tied after Monday, they will have a 1 game playoff Tuesday afternoon in Chicago.

If Minnesota wins the division, are they to be taken seriously?

Remember in 2006, when the Twins had been the hottest team in the second half of the season? Laid an egg against Oakland.

Besides, their pitching staff isn't exactly tailor-made for October.

As I said earlier, if they can sneak a win at The Trop, (assuming they beat out the White Sox, of course) they have a legitimate shot against the Rays.

If the Twins advance to the ALCS against the Red Sox, the Twins would have a pretty good chance to advance to the World Series. The Twins would have HFA against the Red Sox, and the Dome has been a house of horrors over the years to the Red Sox.

Now if it's Twins-Angels in the ALCS.............that's a blowout. Angels sweep or no more than 5.

The Marlins/Nationals game got cancelled and will NOT be made up.

Due to the utter meaningless of that game (Marlins already out of the playoff race, and the Nationals... well, they flat out stink), I thought I wanted to get in another Nats crack.

Well here is the funny thing about this weekend . . . Mets and Phillies are rained out tonight (I am calling that early). Tomorrow is not looking good either and that means a day/night double header Sunday with a Monday game UNLESS someone can convince Selig there is too much on the line for teams to be playing twin bills . . . MY FAVORITE SCENARIO IS SUCH: The Cubs take care of Milwaukee this weekend and Mets will only have to win 1 game to get in!

What about the big closing celebration @ Shea?????

The Bewers and Cubs area toss up.

I will say there's more on the line for the Brewers than just winning the Wild Card.

There's that nasty business of being swept at home by the Cubs. There is a terrible taste from that series. This series has become a real rivalry not hust for the teams but for the fans as well.

WAAAAY too many Cub fans invaded Miller Park in that last series. With all those flat landers in the Menomonee Valley I think Miller Park sank 50 feet further below sea level than the rest of the city.

cjwct, why would you think playing DH's is a detriment for the teams?

Is it because the poor players can't be expected to play a double header when the playoff's are on the line. Double headers used to be something I looked forward to as a kid. Who could beat two for one?

That's as bad as taking out a pitcher because he thrown 110 pitches.

There's no pitch count in baseball!

AL Central Comments and Intriguing Spoiler Chances

With last night's sweep, the Twins have moved into first place with a .5 game advantage over the White Sox. The Twins will now play 3 games at home against the Royals. The Indians go to Chicago and play a 3 game series against the White Sox. The winner of the AL Central moves onto the Playoffs and the other goes home.

The first thing I think of in this predicament was the extremely classless choke-sign gesture that the idiot manager of the Chicago White Sox motioned towards the Indians bench when the Sox spoiled their chances in '05.

Brief history: Going into the last series of the season in '05, the Indians were one of the leading candidates to make the wild card for the AL. The Indians played the White Sox in a two game series to close out that year. The division leading White Sox proceeded to sweep the Indians and spoiled their playoff hopes. And how you might ask did Ozzie proceed to summarize the Indians outcome?....

So to this, as a fan, I would love to see the tables turned. The interesting part is that Cliff Lee is scheduled to pitch the last game of the season on Sept. 28th (Sunday.) It will be interesting whether or not he will pitch one last time this year or not. (It's been rumored that he would be shut down for the rest of the year). If Sunday means revenge for Ozzies schenanagans in '05, I'm all for letting Cliffy go for win #23.

Payback's a bitch Ozzie. This series should be fun!

Ozzie did that ? As a manager?!!!

What a complete jackass.

That's worse than Bill Cowher's disrespect towards the heavy underdog Patriots before the 2001 AFC Championship Game. Pats players found out the night before the game, that Cowher told his players in a meeting about their New Orleans hotel accomodations, the SB week's itinerary, etc. It was AWESOME watching Willie McGinest-as the clock was winding down- yelling to the Heinz Field crowd (what was left of them :D), "Cancel those reservations"!!!

Did he ACTUALLY point to the Cleveland bench and do that after THAT specific game? Not that I find it hard to believe because Ozzie is very capable of anything.....but could it be that the local media caught this piture from SOMTHING ELSE and just added it to the story to embellish the rivalry? It HAS been done before.... Chicago media use to do to embellish the rivalry between the Piston and the Bulls in the early 90s and my buddies that worked in the NYC media use to do it all the time for the rivalry between the Heat and the Knicks.

Yes. We had a two game series against the Sox at the end of the '05 season. The White Sox beating us eliminated the Indians from the playoffs. I believe the Red Sox got the Wild Card that year instead.

I'm shocked that this wasn't more of a story nationally. Locally here in Cleveland, fans were outraged. BTW, there were 45,000+ fans at Jacob's Field that can attest to this gesture...

THAT statement right there makes me suspicious about whether he actually did this even more. Ever since he has been manager of the White Sox, EVERYTHING he has done that had a whiff of controversy was news all over the place. And for thing that is alleged by the LOCAL media....smell fishy to me. Like I said, I worked in it and I have seen how local media uses it....

Are you seriously questioning me? I witnessed this on live TV. He's even since apologized for the act and made up a BS excuse on why he did it in the first place.

I am just saying....the media will use anything to their advantage. Look, you stated it was a bull**** excuse. How does anyone know it is legit or not? He has no reason to lie if he apologized....
