2008 Pennant Races

I read an article that Mets fans were mad at this and I don't blame them.

By Fox choosing Yankees-Red Sox as one of their games, of course that game is going to shown in the NYC metro area.

But what about Mets fans that would rather see (for obvious reasons) either the Phillies game or the Brewers game? I guess I could understand if the Yankees were still alive.........but they're not.

Another reason why I just HATE this rivalry, Bill. Too much overkill.

KCK,

I understand where you're coming from, but I was talking about it more from a Yankees/Mets perspective in NYC.

Oh, I totally understand. I just looked at tomorrow's schedule and all the games I care to watch are either going to be blacked out or not shown in my area. If I were a Mets fan not living within the NYC area I would be livid!

I agree, but if you're a Mets fan living IN the NYC area you will be shutout of both the Phillies and Brewers games (unless the Yankees-Red Sox game gets rained out). That's ludicrous in a pennant race!

KCK,
I know from reading your posts (both here and dbs) that you're as frustrated as I am with this Saturday Fox blackout crap!

If Fox insisted on choosing Yankees-Red Sox, (and even I can't justify it this time) why not leave the Phillies and Brewers available to EI subscribers? The incompetance of the people that makes these decisions is just mind-boggling!

Bill,

do you think Toronto could be a serious playoff threat next year?

They came on strong late and will finish AHEAD of the Yankees.

The Blue Jays fall in the same category as the Arizona Cardinals..............I've reached the point where I'm sick and tired of picking them to be a contender almost every year!

BTW, the Blue Jays trail the Yankees by 3 games.

Agreed. And I tip my hat to ESPN for allegedly offering to lift their blackouts in the coming season.

Will the Angels rest their starters in the last three games of their season, KCK, or will they try and go for triple-digits?

Sabres,

With the Skipper indicating that HFA at all levels is the team's next goal, I would expect him to run out his regulars in each game until he achieves that goal. So, if he wins tonight and Tampa loses, it is possible that he would achieve two goals...100 games and the best record in the AL. If that happens then surely he will rest Torii and Big Daddy Vladdy the rest of the way and rest others in each game. But until that occurs, it will be the A List in each game.

Skip indicates that he will most likely go for an Oct. 1 start rather than Oct.2. Why? He has already got a relatively rested team and he will only need to use 3 pitchers with the back end of his starting lineup in question with Garland pitching so poorly and Saunders having lost alot of weight passing a kidney stone this week.

Thanks for asking!

I was wrong then, I thought for sure the Angels were going to choose the Thur., Oct. 2 start. My reasoning was the Angels have better fourth starter options (Garland/Weaver) than the Red Sox (Wakefield/Byrd). The Red Sox would rather the Angels choose the Oct. 1 start as well, because they can start two of their top three starters (Beckett/Lester/Dice K) twice each.

But if Garland and/or Saunders are less than 100%, I can understand the Angels reasoning.

BTW, the Angels wrap HFA through the entire playoffs with 1 more win OR 1 more Rays loss.

They're taking the tarp of at Fenway. Orsillo and Remy said there's a "window" that they may be able to get this game in. I live approx. 20 miles South of Fenway and it's still pouring here!

Now they're saying an 8pm first pitch.

It is not etched in stone, but the indications are he is going that way. You may still be correct.

Garland has as much as said if he were Mike, he would put him in the pen for the playoffs. Don't forget that Big John has been on fire lately and former head cases Weaver and Santana have been exceptional lately. Saunders should be OK by next week. I am not worried about their pitching at all. And a Garland in the pen with his head on straight could be a thing of beauty in a pinch.

You bet that I am aware of that. If I made it sound otherwise, I apologize.:p

Yankees-Red Sox first pitch 8:05 ET. The Sox scratched Dice-K from tonight's start because of poor field conditions, David Pauley to start for the Sox instead.

Also, the Sox pulled Ortiz and Pedroia from the starting lineup, Mike Lowell will DH.

Meanwhile, the Rays are losing to the Tigers, 5-0 in the 3rd.

NL EAST/WILDCARD UPDATE

Ben Sheets will start tomorrow for the Brewers.

Marlins 2, Mets 0............ Bottom of 3rd

Not stunned by either score.

The Mets always implode against the Marlins, and the Nats are pretty much everyone's punching bag.

Teams that are jinxed in certain places/stadiums

FSN may get rid of national programming
