2008 Pennant Races

Given how Bill has rightfully ripped Manny for quitting the Red Sox before he got traded to the Dodgers, I realized something.

Sabathia was awful in the first few months of the season before he got traded to the Brewers. Why didn't HD MM rip Sabathia for going from super-stinky with one team to invincible in another?

It seemed as if C.C. couldn't find the strike zone in April and May as opposed to now.

Because Sabathia didn't quit on his team like Me-Me did on his.

Because Sabathia didn't fake an injury to get out of the lineup.

Because Sabathia didn't push a 66 year- old man down because he didn't score him tickets.

Shall I go on?

No- you made your point.

Anyway, onto new business.

Time for another 'cause of playoff death.'

The D-Backs are out, which I am still suprised by.

When I first joined this site, they looked invincible.

Today, they couldn't beat a beer-league team.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE D-BACKS?

Does anyone think the Twins are a legit playoff threat?

IMO, there is NO way they get out of the first round.

The White Sox could at least make a run- the Twins are a one-and-done team and have known for being horrific in the postseason.

They have won one playoff series in seven years.

Name me three reasons why I should fear the Twins in the playoffs if they make it.

Look, I think the White Sox are a better team than the Twins, BUT if I'm the Rays I'd rather play the White Sox in a best-of-five series.

Why?

Because, if the Twins go to The Trop and steal one of the first two games, (very possible considering the Twins split a 4 games series there last weekend) the Rays have the unenviable task of winning a game in the "Thunder Dome" just to get the series back to St. Pete.

At the beginning of the year I picked the D-Backs to win the NL pennant and face the Tigers in the World Series, mainly because they acquired Dan Haren to go along with Brandon Webb and Randy Johnson.

I think a lack of big boppers in their lineup did in the D-Backs.

Mark Reynolds has made baseball history.

200 strikeouts in one year.

I NEVER thought I would see one guy strike out that many times.

It's one thing for a Ryan Howard, Reggie Jackson, or Reggie Jackson to strikeout a lot, for they are home-run threats.

Is Mark Reynolds possibly considered a home-run threat?

Just an FYI,

IF the Phillies/Mets/Brewers finish in a three way tie, the following would occur:

MON: The Mets and Phillies would meet in Philadelphia to determine the NL EAST winner.

TUE: The Brewers would travel to the loser of Monday's game to determine the NL wildcard.

Sabres,

At the start of the season, Sabathia was indeed horrid. But what a lot of people don't realize is that his slump only lasted his first 4 starts of the season. Starting with his 5th start, he turned things around with the Tribe and was as dominant as he was last year as the Cy Young winner and as he is now in Milwaukee.

A lot of fans and local media were down on Sabathia during this slump, but I had faith he would break out of it. He has shown me way too much throughout the years to think otherwise. And as Bill said, Sabathia's early woes weren't because he quit on his team like Man-Ram. Sabathia was just in a funk.

Currently, Sabathia continues to pitch on short rest for Milwaukee. He leads the league in innings pitched and is second in strikeouts with 244. He has 9 completed games this year and an ERA of 1.78 since joining the NL . If the Brewers make the playoffs, it's because Sabathia has pitched his ass off and gave everything he has to contribute to their success.

Top of 8th at Shea: Cubs 6, Mets 4

Top of 5th in Milwaukee: Brewers and Pirates tied at 1.

If Sabathia wins Sunday- AGAIN pitching on three days rest- and leads the Brewers into the postseason......................he's your Cy Young winner hands down!

...And the METS WIN!!! Woohoo!! I'll tell you what, you talk about sweating it out. Wow. The Mets live for another day. I hope the Cubs put in an effort against the Brewers because I think the Cubs can beat the Brewers. Not because I'm a Mets fan and need the Brew Crew to lose. It's just they have a better team.

Mets,

I'm happy for you buddy, after what you went through last night. Heres to a GREAT weekend of baseball coming up.

BTW,
it would be a sin if these races are determined because of the bad weather moving in (i.e. the Mets having to play a doubleheader sometime this weekend).
