Just got an email notice from YoutubeTV. Price is increasing from $72.99 to $82.99 with first billing in January.

YouTube TV has always worked hard to offer you the content you love, delivered the way you want, with features that make it easy to enjoy the best of live TV.

To keep up with the rising cost of content and the investments we make in the quality of our service, we’re updating our monthly price from $72.99/month to $82.99/month starting January 13, 2025.

We don’t make these decisions lightly, and we realize this has an impact on our members. We are committed to bringing you features that are changing the way we watch live TV, like unlimited DVR storage and multiview*, and supporting YouTube TV’s breadth of content and vast on-demand library of movies and shows.

The price of your YouTube TV Base Plan membership will change in your first billing cycle on or after January 13, 2025, and will be charged to your payment method on file going forward. To view your current plan, go to Settings > Membership for updated information. If you are currently on a trial or promotional price for the Base Plan, that promotion is still honored and unchanged.

We hope YouTube TV continues to be your service of choice, but we understand that some of our members may want to cancel their subscriptions. As always, family managers have the ability to pause or cancel anytime. You can find more information in our Help Center.

With lots of exciting shows and live events ahead in the new year, we’ll continue to strive to deliver the best of TV, all in one place. Thank you for being a loyal YouTube TV member.

Sincerely,
The YouTube TV team

Good timing, right when I drop it, do not need it for NFL Playoffs since I have Paramount and Peacock, along with my antenna, all other content from Paid Live TV, I receive from the streaming services.

But, compared to the other services, YTTV is still the best bargain if you still want paid Live TV, this will be their 4th increase since they started service almost 8 years ago-

  • 2017: Launched at $35 per month

  • 2019: Increased to $50 per month

  • 2020: Increased to $64.99 per month

  • 2023: Increased to $72.99 per month
Compared to Cable/Satellite, all have about 8+ increases in that same time period, some have had 2 increases in a single year (Comcast, Charter and DirecTV had 2 increases in 2023 for example).

A $10/month increase? Yikes.
DirecTV went up about the same-

Plus it had two more price increases in 2023, about an average of $25 for all three increases, where YTTV had one.

Dish Network also-

To give you context, America’s Top 120 pack costs $84.99 right now, which makes for a $13 hike.

Then we have all the fees’ increases also, not just Satellite, but Cable also, who’s pricing is even worse.

I get paid live TV with Philo for $28 a month. Don't need the sports. Can't imagine spending $82.99 a month on YTTV.
I cannot imagine spending $150 a month for Cable and Satellite.

But once ESPN goes streaming in late summer, I will not have to return to YTTV once Football season starts up.

Except the majority of that content is on MAX and Paramount+.

For about $25 ( less with commercials) a month, you would get all the Discovery and Paramount content that is on Philo, plus the exclusive streaming shows/movies, HBO and Showtime also.

I'm still grandfathered in at $20 for Philo and that's mainly for Food network, hallmark and the occasional HGTV stuff. I get locals via antenna and the old reliable Tivo Roamio. For me it's wasted data to stream them or anything just for background noise. Data cap just makes that not feasible without spending another $50 a month for unlimited data.

I have access to YoutubeTV as my sister has it and added me as a family member, but said data cap makes it useless for most viewing. I only use it for AFL games and the occasional college game thats not on ESPN+. I may just purchase the AFL streaming package next season.

I have Youtube premium as I actually find more interesting stuff on youtube. I can also limit it to 720p, so as not to use too much data. That and youtube music are my primary entertainment nowadays.

But not the linear feeds, which I like.
In the age of DVRs, who watches Live?

Plus the fact that those shows are on next day, in much better quality, at least 1080P.

My wife used to watch Food Network all the time, I was amazed at the picture quality on Discovery + and now MAX, so much better.

And MAX is adding Live Feeds, CNN, HBO, TNT and TBS Sports, Discovery Content will be next.

According to 9to5Google, it’s their FIFTH price increase: they went from $35 to $40 in 2018.

It's traditional pay TV that just has a different delivery method. They don't have the expense of stringing coax up over town or launching satellites and then paying a tech to install equipment they're providing in your home...only reason they cost less.

The carriage fees go up just like every other provider, all to watch reruns, commercials and crap content.

It is what Google’s AI said, I then copied and Pasted.

But even if 5, still better then then rest over those 8 years, I added up all of DirecTV’s increases in that same time period, 10 increases, all $5-10 a month, plus the increases with the fees.

Dish Network had 9 increases.
