Gears of War: Ultimate Edition has a new trailer in the same style of the classic ones..

That ad was one of the most effective video game ads I can remember. I was back in high school when Gears 1 came out but that ad made me want that game before I really even knew what it was.

Here's a comparison for those that don't remember...

Honestly though, I DON'T remember that trailer. I remember a particular commercial that took place more in a building, but I can't seem to find it anywhere online. Maybe my memory is fading but I remember a different commercial that played primarily on tv, perhaps a 30 second spot. But yes like you that song stayed with me. Very effective advertising. And honestly seeing it again with this new game makes me more excited to play the Ultimate Edition next week. Maybe we could go through a campaign co-op like we did for Portal 2.

That would be cool. I've never played any of the Gears games in co-op outside of a mission or two in split screen when a friend was over. I've already got the digital version pre-loaded on my Xbox One so I'll be ready to go whenever you get yours from Gamefly.

If we are actually going to do that I'll hold off on the campaign and just stick to multiplayer until you're ready. I planned to play a lot of multiplayer anyways.

Actually thanks to the 5 game deal, we can play the ENTIRE SERIES via co-op..That'd be pretty cool. Then again we may have Gears fatigue after the 2nd one (I know I enjoyed 3 the least of the series because by then I was just like, "Okay, this is starting to get a little repetitive.") But 2 is by far the best of the series IMO, and the original Horde mode is just so awesome.

I plan to replay the first 3 games again so I would be up for that. I don't absolutely have to play Judgement again but it would be easy to knock out if you wanted to since I think it only took me about 5 hours to beat it by myself.

Horde mode is a definite though.

There's talk of Backwards Compatibility coming to the Xbox One...

Of the ORIGINAL Xbox One..

That would be cool to have but I don't think I still have any of my original Xbox games lying around. I did get a ton of use out the 360s ability to play original Xbox games though. For quite a while I played Halo 2 mulitplayer in backwards compatibility mode more than any of my actual 360 games.

I mentioned before that I played a ton of Halo 2 over the dorm LAN with the other guys on my floor when I was a freshman in college. The 360 was the only console I brought with me so that's what I played on. Most of the other guys had not upgraded yet but there were a few of us using backwards compatibility.

Edit: I also played through Ninja Gaiden for the first time on my 360.

Why not, the Xbox 360 already does it, since the 360 is emulated, it's emulation of the xbox should be a no brainer.

Though it's no biggee, as I have all of 1 original xbox game (Morrowind, GOE Edition). Never did have an Xbox, so when I did get a 360, late in the 360 cycle, I picked up Morrowind, as I'm and Elder Scrolls fan, and enjoyed it on the PC.

Not necessarily. You're emulating a Xbox 360, which is then emulating an original Xbox. It might be easier to just emulate the Xbox directly because at least they have similar hardware. The original Xbox had a PC-like architecture, not to mention that the 360 did not always emulate Xbox games well. In any case we'll just have to wait and see. I don't see too much of a benefit of adding original Xbox compatibility. Once the 360 came out the Xbox was VERY quickly abandoned, and I don't think many people still have their original Xbox discs. Still, would look nice against the PS4 to say that they have 2 generations of BC while the PS4 still can't even play PS1 games.

Even if I did still have my Xbox discs lying around I can't really say that there are any original Xbox games I would want to play. Halo and Halo 2 would be the only interesting ones for me these days and The Master Chief Collection already solved that problem.

With Gears of War being back on everyones' minds with the Ultimate Edition being released today, last night Cliffy B (One of the creators of the franchise from Epic Games) tweeted a whole bunch of random Gears facts. Some are rather interesting and show what can go into various gaming ideas. I saw this going on live last night and luckily someone was able to compile all the tweets into one place.Worth the read

Lots of good stuff there. I'm looking forward to jumping into some Gears multiplayer when I get home from work tonight. The good news is that I don't see the internet flooded with complaints about anything being broken.

Yeah unfortunately I won't get my game in until Thursday at the earliest. I am excited to jump back into the campaign. The reviews I've read have been quite positive, with the main complaints being about the AI Partner not doing their job (something we won't be dealing with) and sometimes cutscenes/events not triggering, but there's a good chance those will be patched out by the time we jump in.

Well this is pretty meta... here's some video of Cliffy B playing the new GoW Co-Op with his wife on Twitch

For reference, Cliff is on top and Lauren is on bottom

I'm looking forward to doing this myself. Gamefly needs to hurry up and get you that copy. I did get a chance to play some multiplayer last night. I've mostly been playing Destiny lately and the two games couldn't be any more different. I got worked for the first few games while I was getting used to the controls again but by the end I was doing okay.

It did look very smooth in 60fps. Sadly, the campaign still runs at 30 for some reason.

Well that's news to me. I just assumed everything was 60. Not sure why they didn't do it for SP. That has to be pretty damn jarring to jump between the 2. That sucks. Apparently they said they had to do it for the local co-op mode. Not sure why they couldn't just have it do 60 regular and then 30 on split screen. I've seen games do that before. Regardless like yourself I'm pining for Gamefly to get me this game, but sadly apparently they don't send the stuff through the mail and instead do a relay race from Pittsburgh to my local post office because I can't figure out why else it takes so damn long for stuff to get to me.

Yeah, shipping times were terrible for me when I subscribed too. If they put a disc in the mail on Monday it would usually show up on Saturday. This is ridiculous considering that when Netflix puts a disc in the mail on Monday it's at my house on Tuesday.
