XBOX One Owners Thread

If there are visual upgrades I would probably buy this at some point. After hearing you guys talk about the Prototype games I have wanted to play them for a while. I have them both on PC but I have to assume they feel pretty dated at this point.

Edit: if they didn't make some real upgrades this is a pretty shameful re-release now that backwards compatibility is a thing. Of course, they probably didn't know backwards compatibility was coming when they started this project. Kind of makes you wonder if they are considering a Prototype 3 though.

Looks like your best bet is to play your PC versions. The Xbox One release actually plays WORSE than the last-gen releases, with a lock at 30FPS. At least with the PC version you'll get 60, although it is worth noting that the PC port isn't spectacular, and even on my 960 I was getting dips every now and then, but nothing significant. At least it's not like the One where you're getting FPS in the teens..

Microsoft has announced that everyone who plays Gears of War: Ultimate Edition between launch and the end of the year will get all 4 of the Gears of War games on 360 for free. They will all be added to the Xbox One's backwards compatibility library this Fall. Instead of re-releasing the entire series like the Master Chief Collection this is their solution to giving us the whole package on Xbox One.

I see a lot of people complaining in the IGN comments that they didn't remaster the entire franchise. That obviously would have been the best solution. Besides the lack of horde mode, Gears 1 had the best multiplayer in the series anyways. I'm happy to take a rejuvenated Gears 1 community on dedicated servers. No more extreme host advantage. Also, I think Gears 2 horde mode in backwards compatibility will still be fun even if it isn't remastered. Enough people will be getting it for free that Gears 2 matchmaking should be solid again too.

I have already said that I plan to play through the Gears trilogy once the Ultimate Edition launches earlier this month. Thanks to Games with Gold, Gears 2 was the only game in the franchise I was missing but this fills that gap for me now.

I need some clarification here... All you have to do is PLAY the Remastered game online and you get ALL FOUR for free? If that's true, then all I have to do with my Gamefly copy of the game is pop it in and lose a match online and then I get all 4 games? Don't get me wrong, I'm NOT complaining, but I'd figure it'd make more sense for them to include a code(s) to download all the games later. I mean, what's to stop someone with 10 friends just sharing 1 disc and then 40 games are given out for free? Also it'd be cool if this applied to the PC version as well and then all of a sudden PC users get all 4 games for the price of 1, but I think it's safe to say that won't be happening.

Still, if this is true as this is written it is good news. I'd love to go back and play old school Horde Mode again, not to mention that IMO, Gears 2 had the best campaign. Yeah the last boss was more than a little underwhelming, but Intestinal Fortitude is probably the most memorable chapter in the entire series, which this game has. I do hope they "port" these games properly, because as we've seen, a number of games with One Emulation have run far below their 360 counterparts.

Yeah, I'd be surprised if you didn't have to own Gears Ultimate Edition to qualify for this but that's not what it says in the article. Like you said, they could include codes in the retail version that could only be used one time. Digital is easier because there is no disc sharing, renting, or reselling.

On the other hand, they may know that the system will be abused and they just don't care. Gears of War 2 is the only game in the series that hasn't already been offered as part of Games with Gold. Also these are last gen games and most of them are fairly old.

The old Gears games are probably not big sellers anymore so offering them free to people who don't actually buy Gears Ultimate probably won't cost them much in terms of lost sales. If anything this might bring some new gamers on board with the series before Gears 4 comes out.

I just noticed this part of your post. I wanted to point out that I got a message from Xbox Live telling me to check out the Preview Dashboard for news on fixing backwards compatibility performance. When I got to their news update it said that they had fixed performance for many backwards compatibility games that were having issues. Nearly every game currently offered for backwards compatibility was on the list.

They said you had to delete the game and download it again to get the fixed version. Hopefully that means they have worked out whatever issues they were having with backwards compatibility and it's not a fix that needs to be done on a game by game basis.

Here's a posting from Microsoft, and essentially it looks like it really just comes down to playing Remastered online. No mention of any codes or redemption or anything of the like. Cool.

That post also mentions that Gears 1 has been added to the backwards compatibility library as of today. As far as I know, this is the first time a game has been added to the list since the initial roll-out. I don't really want to play the 360 version just a couple weeks before the remastered version comes out. Still it was looking like they weren't going to add any more games until backwards compatibility was released to everyone this fall instead of just preview members.

I hope to see that list expand rapidly because as of now the only supported games I own are Hexic HD and Gears of War.

Edit: Shadow Complex is also being added today. Kind of a weird game to single out but again, I'm just happy to see the list expand.

So if you don't have the old versions and you buy the new one, will they be available for download on the Xbox One?

Yes they will when backwards compatibility leaves the preview program and becomes available for everyone this fall.

Rocket League developer is "definitely" looking into releasing their hit to the Xbox One

They definitely should bring it to Xbox One. It won't have nearly the same impact there unless they make it part of Games with Gold though. This is a game that requires a lot of people playing online to work properly. They announced that they got to 5 million downloads last week but they won't get anywhere near that from Xbox One owners who have to pay $20 to play.

I suppose it's possible that they could fix this problem by making the Xbox One version compatible with cross platform play. Currently PS4 and PC players have cross platform play in matchmaking but you can't invite a PC player to your party on PS4 or vice versa.

I find it hard to believe that Rocket League, a game made by 12 people, will be the game that bridges the console war though. Don't expect to see PS4 and Xbox One gamers playing together anytime soon.

Yeah they don't need to make it free. $20 is MORE than reasonable for that game, and honestly given all the positive feedback I saw/read about it on the PS4 I likely would have purchased it myself even if it hadn't been free.

Don't need to make it free, is doing quite well on Steam. Id buy it for the One, probably end up buying it on Steam too.

They are also probably hesitant to offer the game free again. We know that Sony and Microsoft do pay publishers/developers when they join the free games programs. I haven't heard anyone actually spill the details of how these contracts work though. I have heard it speculated that some games get a lump sum that doesn't change no matter how many, or how few people download the game. I have also heard speculation that some games get a small amount of money for each download.

Either way it would be much less revenue per download than they would get by selling for $20 per copy. Indie games don't just sell 5 million units though. Definitely not in one month. There is a good chance that their overall revenue is higher because they joined PS Plus than it would be if they did not even though they make less per copy.

Now that they have found mainstream success they probably desperately want to cash in on it. They made a huge hit with 12 people and they deserve to get rich. That $5 DLC pack they are going to sell and an Xbox One version are a great way to do it.

I wasn't trying to say that it's not worth $20 or that the game wouldn't have done well charging that price for it. What I'm saying is that it wouldn't have been a mainstream success like it is. Getting 5 million downloads in a month is a huge accomplishment, especially for an indie game. They would have been ecstatic if they were able to get 1 million downloads in a month without the help of PS Plus though. My guess is they would have gotten no where near that.

That being said, they were still the #1 selling game on Steam until yesterday. It would have done well for an indie either way. Just not at the same level they are now.

Microsoft just finished their Gamescom presentation. Here's a rundown of what they announced/showed:

http://www.polygon.com/2015/8/4/9094571/xbox-gamescom-2015

Scalebound looks interesting but I'm not sure I'm going to be able to stomach the main character's attitude and Beats by Dre headphones. He's like a more ridiculous version of Delsin from inFamous Second Son.

I'm on board with Crackdown 3, Halo Wars 2, and Quantum Break. The free OTA DVR service sounds great for cord cutters too. If that existed a year ago I wouldn't own a Tivo right now.

I think it's pretty clear that Microsoft is destroying Sony in terms of exclusives right now. This was not the case for me last generation. If they wouldn't have had such an embarrassing anouncment and launch price $100 more than PS4 they would probably be dominating the console sales race at this point.

I found this kind of interesting. There are currently 11 choices for buying an Xbox One from xbox.com. Out of those 11 choices only two include a Kinect. The only two that do are the system with Kinect but no games bundled or the Assassin's Creed bundle with Kinect from last holiday season. Not that this is a new development but it's pretty clear that Microsoft has completely abandoned the Kinect.

None of the more recently announced bundles include it and they are still asking $500 for the ones that do. There are 4 choices at $349 for the original 500GB console with no Kinect. There are also 4 choices at $399 with the newer 1TB model. Interestingly the games available for these bundles are not the same for the 500GB or 1TB options. For example, the Gears of War Ultimate Edition bundle is only available with 500GB and The Master Chief Collection bundle is only available with a 1TB drive.

Finally, you have the oddball that is the Halo 5 limited edition console. The reason I say it's an oddball is because they are asking the same $500 as the bundles that include Kinect but there is no Kinect included. It just comes with a 1TB console and a digital version of Halo 5.

To be fair, the console and controller are both a limited edition design instead of the standard black. The Forza 6 bundle is also a nice looking limited edition 1TB console and controller and they are still only charging $399 for that bundle. Basically they think the Halo themed paint job is worth $100 but the Forza themed paint job costs the same as the standard black console.
