XBOX One Owners Thread

Wow! I forgot how terrible I am at gears multiplayer. It looks really nice on Xbox One though.

Now that I got the beta working I'm having a ton of fun with it. Seeing as they are only asking $40 for this and it comes out in August when there aren't a ton of games I might actually buy it day one. I will say that the beta is working better right now than MCC worked weeks after launch.

So last night I fired up my One with the intention of starting the return repair process, so you can imagine my shock when the wireless card started working. It worked for well over a half hour over MCC and Titanfall, which is somewhat annoying because now I don't know if my card is legitimately messed up or if it was a 3 time thing.I don't want to send it back unless I can reproduce the error consistently, as I don't want them to send it back and charge me for wasting their time. So basically now I'll be playing the One for limited times every night for the next week to see if the card will mess up.

Anyone playing the Gears of Wars Beta on X1? If so, interested in a Satguys co-op match?
I wouldn't mind giving that a shot but as far as I can tell parties are turned off for the beta. I tried to play with my cousin and we couldn't figure out how to join up. This is actually the same way Gears 1 worked on the 360 so it could be intentional but I have a hard time believing that they aren't going to let friends play together on a multiplayer game in 2015.

Bad news: No Party in the Beta
Good news: Party in the final release

Gears of War Beta Party Problems
Tons of people have been complaining about a problem where they’re unable to invite to join a party, also called a squad, in the Gears of War beta. Unfortunately, it looks like this is a problem that won’t be worked out before the end of the beta though the developer says that it will fix the issue in time for the public version of the game:

Unfortunately we are currently undergoing issues with our party system in Gears: UE that were not able to be fixed for our beta, but will be fixed for the live game. For that reason, party systems had to be disabled for the beta.

So, it’s not just you. No one is able to invite friends into their squad in the beta version of the game. It’s as simple as that.

Also, in case you needed more proof that this is a bare bones beta..

I guess I never looked out at the environments outside the map but the part you actually play in looks pretty nice on Xbox One.That definitely needs some work before launch

As for the party system, I'm glad to hear it's just a beta problem. I was really hoping they weren't going to go for a completely authentic Gears 1 experience and not include a party system just because it wasn't in the original game.

Well that would have been like if for the MCC they had Halo 1 with just local multiplayer.

I'm still annoyed that there doesn't seem to be horde mode. I LOVED that mode, and it really was the game (Gears 2) that made that mode popular in gaming. Honestly, it's that decision that will make this game a Gamefly rental as opposed to a purchase.

Well, it's official: NO Horde mode in the Gears of War Ultimate Edition. They cited mainly the lack of variety in enemies as the reason. I don't know.. I don't think it would have been THAT hard to bring some more enemies from 2 exclusively into the Horde mode. Regardless, as I said before this confirms that this'll be a rental for me as opposed to a purchase, because I thought that regular MP in GoW was rather lacking, although the single player action was cool. I played the hell out of it, even going so far as beating it on Insane (or whatever the highest difficulty was.) Granted, I needed some help with a 2nd player on RAAM, but damn it was satisfying to bring that guy down.

That's too bad. I'll probably still buy it though. I had some good times with Gears 1 multiplayer. It was the first big multiplayer game I got into on the 360 and I stuck with it for a long time. I still remember the map layouts and which special weapons drop in which areas. It took me a couple rounds in the beta to get used to taking down enemies again but once I did it felt great.

I obviously want to play through the story again too. I've already mentioned that I'm ready for Gears 2 and 3 to be added to backwards compatibility so I can play through the whole thing.

It's going to be the new pack-in game, so will almost certainly grab it on eBay on the cheap.

That's not a bad idea. The Assassin's Creed Xbox One games and The Last of Us on PS4 were dirt cheap when people were selling off their bundle copies. I hadn't heard that Gears was going to be bundled with new consoles but it makes sense that it would be.

A bundle with that and The Master Chief Collection would be a good start for new Xbox gamers.

If there are visual upgrades I would probably buy this at some point. After hearing you guys talk about the Prototype games I have wanted to play them for a while. I have them both on PC but I have to assume they feel pretty dated at this point.

Edit: if they didn't make some real upgrades this is a pretty shameful re-release now that backwards compatibility is a thing. Of course, they probably didn't know backwards compatibility was coming when they started this project. Kind of makes you wonder if they are considering a Prototype 3 though.

The games actually hold up well. Yeah they're not the most visually impressive, but the action is fast and furious and it's just incredibly satisfying. The movement physics share a lot with Saints Row 4. SR 4 had to at the very least be "inspired" by Prototype's fun running/jumping/gliding mechanics, and the powers are much more satisfying than those in inFamous. inFamous was better in terms of story and characters, but in terms of just overall fun and balls to the wall action Prototype wins hands down. I HIGHLY recommend you try them out if you already own them, and I recommend you play both. 2 is an improvement on 1 but 1 is still a ton of fun.
