XBOX One Owners Thread

Lame. Back at launch, pretty much all of Microsoft's published games featured microtransactions like this but it seemed like they had moved away from that strategy since Phil Spencer took over. I wonder if this was Square's idea or theirs. Either way I'm not buying this game until I actually finish Tomb Raider so the GOTY edition might be out by then.

I'm willing to bet that it was Square's idea. I can't imagine that Microsoft would request such a thing. They may have release exclusivity but I don't think they have any sort of control of the actual game. And I've heard that SE is looking at all sorts of different ways to add microtransactions into games. Let's not forget this is the same company that came up with this (NSFW due to language):

It may very well be Square's idea since Microsoft seems to have moved away from this strategy. Remember that Microsoft is publishing Rise of the Tomb Raider so it is possible that they have some say in how the game is monetized though.

At launch Microsoft Published Dead Rising 3 for Capcom and Ryse for Crytek. Their first party game, Forza 5, had basically the exact same microtansaction system as Dead Rising and Ryse even though third parties were actually making the games. That's the only reason I bring this up for Rise of the Tomb Raider.

If it was their idea it wouldn't be the first time they put microtransactions into a third party exclusive that they published.

Well my Xbox has arrived at Microsoft. The rest is up to God now...

Apparently God is a little backed up in his warehouse... Also that warranty date is bullsh*t, and luckily I have my receipt to prove it.

According to Microsoft, the "Vast Majority" of Kinect owners are still using them.

I can believe that. At times I wish I had just waited for a closeout Kinect Bundle as opposed to getting that AC bundle. I touched AC Unity for MAYBE 3 hours, but I'd like to be able to constantly just yell out my commands as opposed to the unintuitive button combinations needed to do the same thing

Looks like my Xbox got fixed pretty damn quick (or maybe it wasn't broken and it was completely user error) and now my Xbox is due to come back on Monday.

I still use mine for voice commands daily. I use it for Xbox On, Xbox Turn Off, and Xbox Go To HBOGo. Anyone who has visited the Satellite Guys game clip sharing thread knows I like to use it to say Xbox Record that or Xbox Take a Screenshot too.

If I had to pull up the snap menu every time I wanted to record something I can tell you that I would pretty much never use the Game DVR feature. With voice commands I can do it without missing a beat and even keep my killstreak going in Destiny. If I had to pull up the snap menu my character would just be defenseless and standing in the open like an idiot while I try to get my game clip. I wouldn't bother.

What I don't use it for is gaming purposes. Games like Dead Rising 3 let you yell to lure zombies into a trap and Ryse Son of Rome let you verbally tell people to fire a catapult instead of pushing a button but those were both gimmicks that didn't really add much to the game. Those were also launch games and most new ones aren't even bothering to put stuff like that in.

Forza Horizon 2 does use it in a kind of cool way. You can talk to your in game version of Siri to add a waypoint to your GPS. It's nice to be able to say "Hey Anna" while I'm driving 140MPH through traffic instead of pausing the game and bringing up the map menu. The only games I have played that actually use the Kinect as a primary control method are Fantasia and Xbox Fitness and I haven't touched either of those since around last Christmas.

What happened to all the next level stuff that was promised? They said these things could sense our heartrate and change the game based on whether we were scared, happy, excited, etc... Some of this stuff could have been awesome for horror games. I'm sure it could have been used in other genres too. As far as I know there has never been a game that uses any of that information and I doubt the Kinect is even truly capable of sensing that stuff.

If it's anything like the 360's Red Ring of Death problem there is no guarantee that you are even getting your own Xbox One back. What they did to speed the process up back then was just confirm that your console did, in fact, have a problem and then send you a refurb that was already fixed. Yours would then be fixed and sent to someone else when it was ready.

I know for sure I didn't get mine back when it happened to me because I had a visible scratch on the top of mine and the one I got back did not. In those days they had you remove your hard drive and faceplate before you sent it in because they knew you weren't going to get the same system back. Since you can't remove the hard drive on Xbox One they may have changed that policy.

I guess you'll see if your stuff is still there when you get your system back or if you have a wiped hard drive. Luckily the Xbox One's cloud save system is supposed to be very good.

Well you CAN remove the HDD, but it's against warranty. I'd like to think they'd swap mine into a replacement console, but we'll see. I just hope nothing gets screwed up in the cloud, although honestly the only thing of real "value" in terms of saved games would be my progress in Rare Replay and Rayman: Legends. I'm just glad my console will be back in time for the BIG Xbox One release in October

Well my One came back on Monday. I can't say with 100% certainty that it's fixed but I haven't run into any issues yet. Looks like they gave me a different console. I had to restore my games/data, which is mildly annoying but tolerable. They also included a free month of Xbox Live Gold, which was nice.

How has the cloud save system worked out for you? It makes me a little nervous that you can't check exactly what saves were loaded to the cloud and when like you can on PS4 but the people at Giant Bomb say it actually works much better. They each have their own consoles at home but also play on consoles in their office.

They claim that the Xbox One is completely seamless. When they are logged into their live profile their current saves are just there no matter which console they are playing on. They claim that the PS4 often hasn't uploaded the latest save from their office yet when they get home and want to continue playing. They also say they have to manually download the saves from the cloud instead of it syncing automatically.

Since I only have one PS4 and one Xbox One cloud saves have never been something I rely on. It's nice to know that they are there if my console ever has problems like yours did though. I'm just curious to hear how well it actually worked.

Well I only tried with Rayman: Legends but when I booted it up it took like 5 seconds to sync up and then all my progress (to the best of my knowledge) was restored and it was like it was before I sent it back. As long as your console is online often you should be fine.

I'm looking forward to that!

I just bought Tembo something or other discounted with Xbox Live Gold subscription. It is a side scrolling kill/smash/soak nearly everything in sight kind of game. Lots of fun and simple enough controls for even my 71 year old fumble-fingers!

Looks like the classic Gears of War games that were promised to early players of Ultimate Edition start rolling out on December 1

Not sure why it takes 3 months to add games that are already supported by backwards compatibility to our accounts but I guess I'm glad it's going to come eventually. I was in the mood to play some Gears 2 Horde right after we finished Gears Ultimate campagin but that urge has kind of passed since then.
