honestly i would've kept that kind of thing to myself if i was McNabb. do you see him there after the season is done or do you think this was another nail in the coffin for donovan?

Is he a free agent after this year? If so I think he might go to Chicago.

Funny you bring this up again Paul. I was listening to the "Sirius Blitz" on my lunch break and they had on LB, Danny Clark from the NY Giants. They asked him whether he knew if an NFL game could end in a tie. His response: "No, I honestly didn't know that." He then went onto say that he believes that aproximately 90% of the league didn't realize this could happen either!!!!

WTF! Needless to say, the Sirius broadcasters were absolutely stunned and so am I!

how is this possible? it seems to me that most of us here knew the rules of overtime. isn't it common knowledge even amongst the fans?

I would've thought so. If not, who should be responsible for teaching the rules of the game to these players? Apparently this Danny Clark guy said he was talking to guys in his locker room about this and nearly none of them knew this. And, no, he wouldn't admit whether Eli Manning knew this or not either.

As a result, tied games were a common occurrence in [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regular_season"]Season (sports) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame], which happened if neither team had more points after regulation time.

In 1974, the NFL instituted one fifteen-minute overtime period for all games tied at the conclusion of four quarters of play. Any score in that overtime period resulted in "sudden death," and the game would be immediately ended with the scoring team winning the game. Now, a tied game results only when neither team scores in overtime.

Since that major rule change, ties in the NFL have been rare. There have been only 17 tie games since 1974, and just four since 1989 (see table below).

Here are the latest OT statistics, and some 'inside' reasoning for leaving the OT system as it is.

"The most prominent criticism of the system is that teams should have one possession each," Polian said. "But when you look at the statistics, 70.5 percent of the time both teams do have at least one possession, and that number has gone up in recent years."

Personally, as I have stated, I think it is unfair after a full 60 minute hard-fought tie to have a 3 in 7 chance NOT TO TOUCH THE BALL because you lose a random coin toss. They say 30% is not bad, I think it is still way to high considering all that can be on the line in some of these games.

The better stat to look at is, of the team with the winning coin toss, how many times do they win without the other team's offense getting the ball?

Keep it the way it is.

"it's unfair", "they didn't get chance to score"

SO WHAT!

These are "professionals" aren't they?

You just had 60+ mins to stop the other team from scoring. Couldn't do that? Guess what, you LOSE!

A better idea is just don't keep score. That way nobody has their feelings hurt by losing after not getting a chance to score again after 60 minutes of play.

Playoff's? Conference Champs? Super Bowl champs? Who needs them? The losing players and fans will just feel bad about themselves.

The NCAA system? I saw in action this weekend, Wisconsin and Cal Poly. It was like watching a hockey shoot out. Let them play sudden death. WI couldn't stop Cal Poly with a steam roller.

Toss the coin, start the clock and let the best team score first to win. I know it's "unfair".

Life's hard, put a helmet on and get in there.

I would keep the OT sudden death, just play as many OT's until a winner is determined.

Who cares if two sucky teams have to play 5 OT's in a regular season game to determine a winner? They only play once a week anyway (MLB players play just about every day for at least 6 months).

And, yes, even tho NFL is not my #1 sport, I knew there was a tie because I can remember vaguely some from the past (plus there is a third column in the newspaper NFL standings for ties, so you know it has to be a possibility when looking at the standings). What I don't understand is why a tie is good or bad for a team. Are teams ranked by winning pct. for playoff determination and thus a tie hurts the winning pct. for playoff ranking?

Do you guys really think that football players are smart?
Lets see 6 players suspended for performance enhancing drugs in one day, player has an unregistered pistol in New Your yet, and of course we have the Cincinnati Bengals starting with the owner.

i would say that yes you are right but that's not the case with all the players. there are some smart players but in the case of these guys especially plaxico, their intelligence must be questioned. :what
