Windows 11

I love iMessage; I can send high res (and original resolution) photos and videos to other iOS users. Can't do that on Android- still using SMS/MMS.
I have noticed getting videos in much reduced resolution, but not stills which seem to come through in original resolution. Have you found that not to be the case?

As for the videos, I always attributed this down-rezzing to T-Mobile and the fact that I have Binge On enabled. Back before I had unlimited data, I found this very useful to stay below my monthly limit. T-Mobile did the down-rezzing on their servers for some video sources, such as YouTube. Playing YouTube videos directly on the phone did not count against my 2GB data limit. I'll have to turn Binge On back off to see whether that has any effect on videos sent over MMS.

Personal preference, I guess. I like having everything right there in front of me. You'd hate my iPhone home screen..

That screen is the first reason I'd never use an iPhone. When I was still Rooting my phones, I'd use a MIUI based ROM many times that uses the iPhone desktop model and I'd create a page with folders for all the apps like you have but for all the apps, like Tools, Games, Multimedia, etc...

The only Widget I use on my Phone is the Clock and the only Icons are in the Dock. With Nova Launcher Pro, I can add scrolling Docs, for more apps but OK Google - Open xxxxx works the best

As someone who loathes text messaging and sends/receives a dozen (or less, not including 2FA texts) texts a month I can’t remember the last time I sent or received a message with a picture or video so I have no idea the quality. I remember doing it back in 2010 when I first went to Android just because I could, since the iPhone did not natively support MMS. The photo/video was uploaded to AT&Ts servers and you got a link to it. Not sure if I sent one since.

Had to go back to a smart phone because of work. Really got used to have a flip phone and miss it. While I can appreciate your clean look, my phone is pretty much out of sight out of mind. The majority of my usage comes from widgets either viewing emails or pausing/playing audio. I can't type on an on-screen keyboard and I'll be damned if I'll ever talk to an electronic device so simple button presses of widgets are all I need. Apps these days are too cumbersome, UIs change too frequently for no real reason, have to hunt and peck to find things, no thanks.

So far it has very little to recommend it other than better WSL support.
I never even understood what WSL was supposed to bring to the table. It's not like there aren't other virtual machine systems available.

It may (or may not) become more evident as Microsoft progresses in their relationship with the Linux kernel.

WSL makes running servers (other than their own products) on a Windows machine easier than most virtual machines where sharing of resources requires some planning.

I have a problem with Windows 11. Before this I was working with an older version and everything was fine. After auto-update, some of the resources I work with every day do not open. For example, here is this site legal files. Perhaps,
is there any block? Help who also had such a problem

The last update borked a few things. If you use BitLocker, that was messed up for some. If you use XPS format documents, those may have been trashed too.

You should ask Legal Files directly:

Thanks for the tip. I will check now. Writing for all sites with which I have a problem is not an option. I will look for more solutions

You may need to enable IE emulation mode in EDGE.

I believe Windows 10 went through this a few months back when Windows Updates removed Internet Explorer from peoples’ PCs. Our Corporate IT pulled the plug on IE last month, just use Edge with an IE extension.

My post was uniquely about problems that you may encounter with a specific application as opposed to random websites.

There's not enough specificity about your other problems to offer further guidance.

What version(s) of Windows 11 are you running? Mary Jo and Paul discuss…

This got autoposted by the Twit bot.
True, but it relates to Windows 11 and I thought it worthy of cross-posting. I suppose I should have linked to the Post in the TWiT thread, but then you’re missing the video slate.

I got a warning email from Microsoft to upgrade to W 11 because they said they will be shutting down win 10 in 2 years. So I decided to review this thread to see what sort of nightmare I will experience. Here's what I discovered:
1. My daily robust computer works fine for my internet stiff, Office 365, and Photoshop CS2 work. I also do my day trading. No complaints but the i7-950 with 24GB ram and SSD drive for C: as well as a second C: SSD for windows 7 is not supported.
2. I have a second desktop with for video editing that supports VR360 editing with Oculus Rift as well as 3D video and it is extremely fast for real time editing. That box set me back $12,000 so fortunately it will not be obsolete by Microsoft, as long as the software on it will work.
3. My Surface Pro is 2 years old and it is also compatible.

So when that day comes, I guess #1 will need to be replaced. In the meantime, I see no point in upgrading any of my machines until stuff doesn't work on #1.

Not sure if I will buy a complete system or build one custom. I built #1 and #2 since nobody had a package like I needed.

Anyway, hoping to read about all your experiences with the transition.

Scott- when I read you had 100 computers that may need upgrading, I was thinking, I wonder if he'll talk his boss into going with iMAC's. I'm glad I set one up for my wife because she rarely calls me in to fix something anymore. Maybe once a year she'll lose a file and I have to find it for her. But Apple stuff just works as long as your needs aren't too specialized. She uses Office 365 and Safari. So iMAC just works and never fails. And I'm not even an Apple fanboy.

My primary upgrade criterion is usually what the current version of my tax software (HR Block) requires. Sometimes I drag my feet for a while and just assemble a temporary machine to do my taxes.

Owing to the nature of modern Windows applications (both commercial and shareware) with their burning desire to employ a subscription model, I may be even more interested in hanging back in the future.

Much of my productive work happens on Linux using FOSS but it is handy to have a Windows machine around to do things that Linux doesn't readily support. Having a Mac as a backup line of defense doesn't make nearly as much sense as the software availability isn't much improved and the interface options (both hardware and UI) aren't particularly "with it".
