What is wrong with the Cleveland Indians?

Quote of the Year

You can blame a lot of people for the Indians awful start, but you can't blame Victor Martinez.

Yesterday, V-Mart had 3 more hits to improve his AL Leading batting average to .409 (61 for 149).

Yesterday, Vic gave us a simple lesson about baseball...

"It takes more than one guy."

Change? Yes We Can!!!

The Indians dropped Masa Kobayashi (not related to the hot dog eating Champion) from the 25-man roster yesterday. Kobayashi has been an awful disappointment since signing a 2-year $6.25 million contract in Nov. 2007. He was supposed to be one of the top Japanese pitchers recruited to the States. Less than 2 years later, he is out of the Majors.

This latest aquisition makes room for left-hander David Huff. Huff will start today in his big-league debut against Andy Sonnanstine and the Tampa Bay Rays.

Maybe the scouts and GM's will start to pay attention, every pitcher that comes over here is suppose to be the best thing since sliced bread ....
They yankees had the BEST of the best and he BOMBED.
Unfortunately I can't remember his name.

Despite Snafu, Tribe STILL Loses!

Loss #25

We've lost every way imaginable so far this year. Why not this way.......

An error on the Tampa Bay Rays’ official lineup card forced starting pitcher Andy Sonnanstine to bat in Sunday’s game against Cleveland. [...]

The Rays lost their DH position due to the error, meaning Sonnanstine replaced Longoria in the third spot of the lineup. Longoria was available to come off the bench.
The Rays had listed two third basemen, effectively losing their DH. This forced the pitcher to actually bat in the three hole. Advantage Indians right?! Wrong.....

Wouldn't you know it, Sonnastine hit an RBI double. Having just 10 regular season at bats heading in to today’s game, the Indians have given Sonnanstine his first career extra base hit.

Definitely something to hang our hats on…

Indians lose 7-5

Oh, that David Huff we called up in place of Hot Dog Man, he lasted 3.2 innings and gave up 7 hits and 7 runs.

Kerry Wood gives up 4 runs in the ninth. Tribe loses 6-5. Our stud closer has learned some bad habits from his teammates in the pen. I've never seen anything like this.

OH MY! That is your worst nightmare realized. He is not going to be the closer much longer. What a disapointment...althought not unforseen.

A notable quote from Tom Hamilton, Indians radio announcer on WTAM 1100....

"Just when you think the Indians have hit rock bottom, the team sinks even lower."
The real question remains. Which will bottom out first. The Indians or our economy?

The Excruciating Details of a "Petrified Wood"

OH MY! That is your worst nightmare realized. He is not going to be the closer much longer. What a disapointment...althought not unforseen.

Let me give you the excruciating details....

It was 5-2 in favor of the Indians going into the 9th. The perfect situation to turn the game over to your high-priced big name closer, right? Wrong........

After recording 1 out, Woody proceeded to give up back-to-back homers to make it 5-4. He walked the next batter Mitch Maier. Then, Indian killer David DeJesus came up and smacked a triple, scoring Maier making it 5-5. The very next batter, Willie Bloomquist hit a sac-fly to score DeJesus and the winning run. A text book come-back rally executed by the Royals. Since when did the Royals and Indians trade fortunes in the AL Central btw?

Oh how it sucks to be a Tribe fan! Woe is us!!!! Seriously, when will it stop?! :(:(:(:(

Following the game, I sat in utter silence just staring blankly at the TV screen wondering what happened. Sadly, the STO cameras panned to the Tribe players in the dugout to show Cabrera, Choo, Vic and others staring off into space probably wondering the same thing. How did this happen? Why us? When will it stop? Will it ever get better? How do we heal?

"How the f%$k did we get this guy in the 1st place? What can we do to get rid of him? " is probably more like it.

Kerry Wood has given up 4 HRs so far this year. For the entire season last year, he gave up 3 (pitching in Wrigley).

In all fairness, Woody has good stuff and has proven to be a dominant closer when locked in. I fear that as Sky has said, the gloomy nature of our team and bullpen has rubbed off on Woody and he just isn't pitching with the same intensity as the stakes aren't as high.

Historically, when closers go bad they go bad quickly.

I'm not worried about Wood. It's the rest of the bullpen I'm concerned for. If there's something at stake, I think Wood's best will shine through. Everything is going wrong for this team right now and everyone's flaws will be magnified.

He had every opportunity to exorcise any demons last night in K.C. He literally blew it.
