What is wrong with the Cleveland Indians?

In all fairness, Woody has good stuff and has proven to be a dominant closer when locked in. I fear that as Sky has said, the gloomy nature of our team and bullpen has rubbed off on Woody and he just isn't pitching with the same intensity as the stakes aren't as high.

I'm not nearly as sold on him as you are and it's not just because of last night. He's been knocked around it more than a few games this year. He's only had 1 season as a dominate closer, so I can't agree with you that he's proven.

Has Wedge been fired yet? I'm so disappointed that this season hasn't turned out to be the great Tigers/Indians showdown we anticipated.

Go Cavaliers! At least you have them.

Nope. The GM (Mark Shapiro) has even spoken publicly recently and said that he supports Wedgie.

It's sad. We're like the 2008 Tigers, only worse.

I feel your pain. I remember the pain of last season all too well.

Sometimes the GM endorsement is the "kiss of death". For your sake, I hope so.

Yeah and to add a bit of humor to it, here's a quick story.....

I've been getting new license plate frames for my teams to put on my Explorer during each sport season. The first one I got was the Browns for the 2008 season. The anticipation was through the roof and then the season turned out to be a complete disappointment. Then in spring, I skipped the Cavs frame and instead swapped it out with an Indians frame. Now the Indians are tanking. People at work are convinced I am jinxing the hell out of my teams. This is why I am refusing to hang a Cavs plate holder. I don't want to jinx 'em if that's indeed true. (I think Cleveland has the most superstitious fans ever). :)

That's funny. But just to be safe, lose the Cavaliers frame. OR - put it on today and see if Orlando wins. then you'll know for sure.:D

Cleveland fielding offers for DeRosa!

Oh sweet Jesus, KCK was right!!!!!!!!!!!

Indians third baseman Mark DeRosa is one of the first veterans to hit the trade block.

Cleveland is now fielding offers for the versatile DeRosa, league sources say.

The Indians are looking mainly for pitchers who can help them now. Although they are off to their second straight horrible start, the Indians are apparently not close to giving up hope in a tight AL Central. Pitching has been their main problem in their 14-26 start (8 1/2 games back from the division-leading Tigers).

The Mets are one possibility for DeRosa, since the versatile 34-year-old could play first base, but it's believed Nick Johnson tops their wish list, with Aubrey Huff or possibly Russell Branyan likely ahead of DeRosa. The Mets would have greater interest in Indians star Victor Martinez, but there's no indication Cleveland would consider trading him.

DeRosa is a skillful utilityman who can also play second base and both corner outfield spots. He plays many of the same positions as Casey Blake, who was traded from Cleveland last summer to the Dodgers in a deal that helped both teams (the Indians received stud catching prospect Carlos Santana).

DeRosa is a free agent after the year and makes $5.5 million.

First game of the Ohio Cup goes to the Reds. It was a good game to watch.

Unwritten Rules Broken. Tribe vs. Rays May Revive Bad Blood!

Since I last posted about these Wickedly Worthless Wahoos, the Tribe went 1-2 against the Reds at Great American Ballpark. BTW Reds fans, you've got a gem of a player in Joey Votto. He's now my unofficial favorite NL player. What a talent!

Now, the Tribe shifts focus to the Tampa Rays as we return home for a 4 game series against these pesky creatures of the sea. The last time these teams met, there was a bench clearing skirmish which was a result of Joe Maddon and company breaking one of the often debated "unwritten rules of baseball." A brief recap.....

In the game (May 14th), Maddon called for BJ Upton to steal second and third in the 6th inning with his team trailing the Indians 9-0. The Tribe still ended up winning 11-7, but supposedly the mockery of the "unwritten rules" works both ways (whether on losing or winning team) and upset a few, most notably Kerry Wood and Victor Martinez.

In the 8th inning, Wood fired a fastball behind Upton and a second one at his knees. Joe Maddon and V-Mart barked at eachother and both teams came onto the field.

V-Mart had this to say following the game...
"You don't see nobody [expletive] stealing, [expletive] down, 9-0 in the 6th or 7th inning. If you're going to get respect, show respect. Now Maddon is getting mad because he's getting one of his players thrown at? He better worry about teaching them to play the game the right way first."
Bring it Tampa!

Oh! I am getting the popcorn ready for that one today. Who knows? We may even see a hockey game break out today @ the Jake!!!!:p And if either Fields or Garza pitch in the series...LOOK OUT!
