What is wrong with the Cleveland Indians?

Since I last posted about these Wickedly Worthless Wahoos, the Tribe went 1-2 against the Reds at Great American Ballpark. BTW Reds fans, you've got a gem of a player in Joey Votto. He's now my unofficial favorite NL player. What a talent!

Now, the Tribe shifts focus to the Tampa Rays as we return home for a 4 game series against these pesky creatures of the sea. The last time these teams met, there was a bench clearing skirmish which was a result of Joe Maddon and company breaking one of the often debated "unwritten rules of baseball." A brief recap.....

In the game (May 14th), Maddon called for BJ Upton to steal second and third in the 6th inning with his team trailing the Indians 9-0. The Tribe still ended up winning 11-7, but supposedly the mockery of the "unwritten rules" works both ways (whether on losing or winning team) and upset a few, most notably Kerry Wood and Victor Martinez.

In the 8th inning, Wood fired a fastball behind Upton and a second one at his knees. Joe Maddon and V-Mart barked at eachother and both teams came onto the field.

V-Mart had this to say following the game...
Bring it Tampa!

Very interesting game tonight. I will certainly be keeping an eye on it. Why?

The Phenom, David Price is making his 2009 debut tonight for the Rays. IMO, this kid will be a Cy Young Award winner within the next three years.

Oh! I am getting the popcorn ready for that one today. Who knows? We may even see a hockey game break out today @ the Jake!!!!:p And if either Fields or Garza pitch in the series...LOOK OUT!

It starts today with a lovely Carmona vs. Price matchup. Should be a goody.

I still can't believe TB sent this kid down after spring training. What was the point? He is better than the rest of the staff.

I understand that TB has a lot of talented starters, but not like Price. What was this kid going to learn down on the farm, that he wasn't going to learn in the show? Even the Tiger's took a chance on Porcello who is just 2 yrs. removed from pitching for his high school team. (He's doing great, BTW!)

I'm sure the Rays hope he'll go deeper into games than this.

After reading some earlier quotes from Maddon I'm surprised they had him on such a strict pitch count...

Matt, what a win for your Tribe tonight! :up

A lot of credit to the boys of summer for not giving up when things looked grim! We were down 10-0 at one point!!!!! We fought all the way back to a 11-10 victory! Hopefully this is a sign that "comebacks" are in the air in C-Town!

Excuse me, O ye of little faith?!

It was a fluke...a miracle. That game sucked BIG time when I wrote that. I applaud the efforts and the comeback. But I don't think smoke an mirrors will win a division for the Tribe. I may be wrong...and I hope I am. You need to start somewhere and maybe now at the end of May they've found it.

Rizzo seems to think this is the start of a turnaround, we will see I have said that before, but man if we do turn it around watch out AL I think the tribe will be tough to deal with.

Make That 15 Straight Against the Sea Creatures @ The Jake!

Carl Pavano is back everybody. Seriously, he's done as much on the mound this year as he's done the past 3 years.

For the 5th time in 6 starts, C-Pav got the win. He went 7 innings and gave up 1 ER. Kerry Wood closed out the 9th.

Of note, every run in this game came by the way of a home run...

Indians:
Ryan Garko, solo HR in the 2nd.
Asdrubal Cabrera, solo HR in the 3rd.
Mark DeRosa, 2 run HR in the 6th.
Kelly Shoppach, solo HR in the 7th.

Rays:
Carlos Pena, solo HR in the 7th.

Dolan remains in hospital

I didn't want to burden you all with another individual thread, so I though this was an appropriate place to place this news.....

Today, Cleveland Indians Owner Larry Dolan suffered a mild heart-attack. He remains hospitalized and will remain there for the time being for observations.

On this rain-drenched muggy, Cleveland evening, I ask you all to keep Mr. Dolan in your thoughts and wish for a speedy recovery. :(

Sounds similar to what Danny Ainge went through about a month ago.

Get well soon, Mr. Dolan.

I'll keep him in my heart and thoughts- may he have a speedy recovery!

Entertaining game going on right now. After falling behind 5-0 in the 1st, the Tribe has stormed back to take a 8-6 lead in the 3rd.

Make That 16 and Counting!!!

16 in a row against the Rays @ the Jake!!! (Final Score: 12-7)

The Wahoo's are definitely on a roll. They're looking for a series sweep tonight.

The Rays lost their fourth straight for the first time this season. The last time the Rays beat the Indians in Cleveland was on Sept. 29, 2005, ironically against Cliff Lee.
