Video Game Deals

The PSN Valentine's Day sale is on. There are some surprisingly good deals here. The focus is on 2 player/multiplayer games. A lot of classic fighting games like Street Fighter Alpha and the Tekken games are super cheap. Hell you can get arguably the best Street Fighter game ever, Street Fighter Alpha 3, for $1.20! Whole bunch of other good sales on Rayman Legends ($10!) and LBP3 is over 50% off. Worth a look.

Valve is said to be having a similar sale starting today at 1pm EST. It's rumored that the Jack Party Pack will be on sale there and I think I'll jump on that (It's also on sale at the PSN sale.)

Rayman Legends is a steal. I already have it on PC but I think I'll grab it on Vita for $6.75. I played all the way through Origins on my Vita and loved it.

Is Knack worth $10? Keep thinking it will be free for Plus someday. Also considering Lara Croft. I really enjoyed the first one.
I've heard NOTHING resembling positive feedback about Knack, so I'd say save your money. It's basically just a glorified tech demo.

Steam Co-Op sale is live. A few decent deals on the Saints Row and Borderlands games but not much else. Worth a look.

I'm still waiting on a better deal for Borderlands: The Presequel and Season Pass. It seems like the prices dropped much faster than BL2. If I was looking for something to play right now I might grab the base game for $29.99 but it will likely be cheaper before I have time to play it.

Big XBox One video game sale going on this week. It starts on the 18th. Here's a screencap of what's coming. The biggest draw is The Halo: Master Chief Collection at 60% off.

Nice. I'm glad to see the deep discounts on digital games for consoles happening more frequently. It's nice for console gamers to get a taste of what PC gamers have been getting for years.

The problem with those percentage-off prices listed in the Xbox One sale is that in many instances (if Xbox's normal digital game pricing is anything like the PSN's) those discounts will bring the games' price to what they can currently be found at at retail if one searches around a bit.

Bunch of good deals on Xbox 360 games on Live right now. The majority of games are a bit older, but they're still quite good. Worth a look if you're still big on the 360.

Also you can get CoD: Ghosts for $7.99 from the Microsoft Store. This is the upgrade version, so you get a 360 copy as well as a One copy. I'm going to pick it up for the campaign and maybe some CoD on my One. Yeah I know AW is where it's at right now but I have that on my PS4.

Here's a complete list of what's available, including the deals I mentioned above.

Square Enix Humble Bundle 2 now live.

This is a very good bundle. Unfortunately I already have almost everything in it. I recently bought both Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut and Murdered Soul Suspect each for more than the current average. The $15 tier is very good if you don't Tomb Raider or Sleeping dogs but $6 for everything else is still pretty nice.

Yeah I had a bunch of the stuff too...but for so cheap and more games being added I figured why not. I didn't get the $15 package as I don't see myself getting Sleeping Dogs, especially if it's not the Definitive Edition.

In other sales, you can get 50 classic Sega Genesis games on PC for $2.62. Great list of old Sega games to play. The list of games can be found here.

If you require some old Sonic games, you can get this pack instead that includes them but is more expensive ($4.88) and has 48 instead of 50 games.

This must be the week for sales. Tons of good deals on the PSN, especially for Plus members. The prices for the most part are the same for the PS3 and PS4 versions when available on both. A few that caught my eye:
Tomb Raider PS4: $15
Child of Light PS4/PS3: $6
SP: Stick of Truth: $15
Metro Redux PS4: $25
Shadow of Mordor PS4: $25
Telltale Bundle PS4: $44 (includes TWD 1 & 2, GoT, Tales from the BL, and TWAU)

I would say every one of those deals is worth the price they are asking for if you don't already have these games.

The other day I was thinking to myself, Damn, I wish I had grabbed Child of Light when it was on sale for $7.50 a couple of weeks back. lol Though it's still entirely possible it will be on sale for cheaper further down the road (if not free), I'm more than comfortable with the $6 price point. The others, there's definitely a good chance I'll be able to get them cheaper by the time I'm ready to play them. And I probably would bite on the TellTale bundle had I not just purchased TWD2 for the PS4 a few weeks ago for $6.25. Borderlands and GoT are the only ones I really want at this point anyway.

I'm just going to buy it and cancel my Gamefly subscription until I catch up on some games I've been meaning to get to.
I'm strongly considering cancelling mine as well, or maybe at least suspending it. My backlog is just so great and there really isn't much coming out in the foreseeable future that I really want to play. And anything I really want to play literally 90% of the games are coming out on PC as well, and I can just upgrade my hardware and wait on sales instead.

That was kind of my thinking too. I currently have more games I really want to play than time to play them. PS Plus has been good for my tastes lately and I own a lot of PC games I've never even launched. Seeing Far Cry 4 for $30 was the tipping point. It's a huge game that will easily take me 2+ months to beat. It didn't make sense for me to pay Gamefly $15 per month when I already own the next two games I wanted to play (FC4 and Shadow of Mordor) on PC.

Even the consoles have been having decent sales lately. It might just make more sense to buy games at a discount now. I actually wish I would have done this in the fall. I kept Dragon Age Inquisition for almost 3 months at $45 from gamefly. Even for consoles I have seen it discounted to $35 more than once during the time I was playing it. Now since, I rented it I won't be able to play any DLC unless I buy the game later too.

I'm going to try to be more selective with my game purchases and double down on PC gaming. Green Man Gaming always has those 20-25% codes so I can even get even get the stuff I want on day 1 at a discount. I'm also going to try to stop buying games I'm not planning to play immediately unless the discount is just too good to pass up. I keep buying games on sale and then seeing the price drop again before I even install them.

I think I would really stress out if I had a Gamefly sub that I was trying to get my money's worth out of on top of the free Plus games and deeply discounted games I buy. And that's just for one platform (Playstation 3/4). lol
As it is, I suspend my Netflix disc service for 4-6 months each year, usually this time of year when I'm watching around 8 weekly programs on broadcast/cable TV in addition to my Netflix streaming sub. There aren't any movies being released on disc this time of year that I can't wait until summer to rent on blu-ray when I don't have as many TV shows going.

With that said, Gamefly would definitely come in handy for a game like The Order, which I can't really see myself ever paying more than $10 for due to its reported length and lack of replayability (even for trophies) unless it averages 95+ on metacritic, in which case I might just look into grabbing it from Redbox or something.
