Also you wouldn't know much about what was going on because the HD collection stupidly omitted Metal Gear Solid (which really is the third game in the series) so you'd have a big gap between MGS: Peace Walker and MGS2. Technically if you wanted to play it in order, you'd have to do MGS3, PW, and then MGS2, but then you deal with weird gameplay changes, as opposed to just doing it based on release date. But without that first Metal Gear Solid, you'll be beyond clueless. I would say that it IS worth checking out the Metal Gear series. Yes the story is convoluted and somewhat hard to follow, but the series is still filled with some (if nothing else) interesting writing, memorable characters, fun plot twists, and the like. There's a reason why the series is so beloved, because it sure as hell isn't from goodwill stemming back from the
original NES release. If you can ever find it really cheap, it would be worth your time and money to pick up the Metal Gear Solid: Legacy Collection. Honestly it's worth it at $50, but you don't seem like someone dying to jump into that world, especially with all the other high profile releases coming down the pike.
