Video Game Deals

I'm actually pretty excited about Brothers and Smart As, as well. Brothers is the kind of game I know I would enjoy, but probably wouldn't spend money on unless it was like $2-$3. And playing the Uncharted Fight for the Fortune card game on the Vita this holiday gave me a new appreciation for games that are more mental than action/story oriented, as they are much easier to just pick up and play for 10-15 minutes on the Vita to complete a challenge or play while trying to follow a sporting event.

I was tempted but the fact is I'll never get to play it. My backlog is so bad that today I went to buy a game, only to be told "You already own this, dummy.""

There is a new Humble Bundle today. I paid $6.50 for To The Moon, Joe Danger 2, Papo & Yo, Bit.Trip Runner 2, Reus, and Surgeon Simulator 2013. You can pay any amount you want for everything except Reus and Surgeon Simulator. You need to pay more than the average of $6.09 (currently) if you want those 2 games. If you chose to pay more than the average at the time of your purchase there are more games promised in the future.

This is one of the first Humble Bundles where I didn't own any of the games offered on any platform.

Sadly I own nearly half of these games, and I know what I paid for Papo is more than what all these games cost here. Still, I decided to throw in $6.

This is the first time I have seen the average price required to unlock the whole bundle go down after my purchase. I will say that the games you could pay any amount for were more compelling than the 2 they put behind the higher price wall. That use of "higher price" is relative. I still only paid about $6 for 6 games with more promised to come. It makes me wonder what the mystery games that aren't announced yet will be though.

Some nice discounts in the PSN 14 in '14 sale starting tomorrow (PS3 and Vita titles). Lots of temptations for me, including Puppeteer for $7, Far Cry Blood Dragon for $3.75, and Wolf Among Us season pass for $13.49 (all PS Plus member prices). I highly recommend Enslaved for $5 for Plus members/$10 non-Plus members. I paid $10 for the DLC that's included in the deal when it came out and felt it was worth it.

I'll probably get Killzone Mercenary on Vita for $9. Puppeteer is also really tempting at $7 but I don't know when I would ever go back and play it. My PS3 isn't getting much love from here on out and when it does get turned on it will be for The Walking Dead Season 2 and the huge games I missed like Uncharted 2/3 and inFamous 2. As cool as Puppeteer looks I don't see myself firing up the PS3 to play it when I have next gen games and a huge PC backlog.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Puppeteer is a free game for Plus members within the next six months.

I just bought Killzone Mercenary for $9 and Velocity Ultra for $2 from the PSN sale. These are supposed to be two of the best Vita games released this year and they were offered at a great price. I thought about grabbing Spelunky for $3.75 too but Sony keeps adding so many indie/smaller games to PS+ that I get a little gun shy about buying to many of them.

Saints Row 4 is free to play this weekend, and can be purchased for 50% off on Steam (along with a good portion of it's DLC.)

Seriously folks, there is NO reason to not jump on this. I didn't give this game a GOTY award because they paid me to do so. Yeah, it helps if you played the previous versions just so you know who everyone is, but you can get that on demand from here.

I'm of a similar mind. There are at least 5 games I want to get in this sale, but I keep talking myself out of them because with my current backlog, chances are they'll be offered free before I get to them. If I spent money on anything right now it would be AC Liberation HD, as I would start playing that ahead of everything else in my backlog. But I'm sure that too will get a nice discount or be offered free within the next 6 months or so.

Amazon updated their PC sales. Remember those $5 coupons you got for buying games last winter? Well, now the games are actually good. I may pick up Crysis 3 for $4.99 (after $5 off the $9.99 price.)

Definitely better. But nothing that will run on my Windows 7 laptop. Since I earned my $5 credit buying PS3 content (Plus membership), I wish they had offered Playstation digital titles as an option.

GOG is having a "DRM-Free Time Machine Sale." Basically it looks like they're going back 30 years and year by year offering some deal on a big game. For example, for 1983 they're selling the Zork Anthology for 70% off. Also, they have a weird thing where you can vote and if you say yay or nay they add/subtract time on the sale. I think this is rather misguided, because I'd vote nay on everything just so we can move forward for a quicker deal. This current deal is valid for 90 minutes. Maybe this will be different around noon when the sale is in full swing. Regardless, worth a look if we can get some good deals.

Update: It appears that people have wised up. Another game went up (Ultima 1-3) and it's been up for like 5 minutes and 30 minutes has been taken off the clock from users. It looks like this is going to end up being quite similar to the big sale they had last year with limited time sales.

Update 2: Okay either GOG is manipulating the vote or people are trolling/being idiots, because Might & Magic 6-Pack has been on for about an hour, but it keeps having time added to it. Boo..

I just noticed that GOG doesn't have any old Lucasarts games. That's a real shame. They'd be able to print money if they got those. Instead it's flooded with those old Sierra On-Line games that really are NOT as good as you remember them being..
