Video Game Deals

The Steam holiday sale has officially begun. PC gamers get your wallets out! It runs today through Jan 3rd.

http://store.steampowered.com/

From Today's daily deals I think I will get Arkham Origns for $25 and Metal Gear Rising for $20. There are good deals on Bioshock and Dishonored too. I also want the Stanley Parable but I think I will wait for a better price than $9.
I don't think I'll get Origins until that's at 75% off. Really, WB really shot themselves in the foot when they did that humble bundle AFTER Origins came out. They should have done what Deep Silver did, which was put Saints Row 2 & 3 in a bundle 1 month before their next big game (SR4) came out. That was perfect, because I had NO interest in the SR series until that bundle came out, and because of it I ended up buying SR4 and SR4 DLC.

I didn't realize Metal Gear Rising wasn't released yet for PC. It looks like a cool action game but I don't know if I want to buy it as a preorder. The game comes out in a couple weeks but I'd kind of like to hear how it runs on PC before buying.

I did pick up Arkham Origins though. I am a big fan of the series. Now I just have to decide if I want to play through the PC version of Arkham City before or after Origins.

I'd say play Origins first, because with all reports saying that AC is better, you may as well start off with the inferior game and end more positive, as opposed to ending on the weakest of the series.

Yeah, I've played through Arkham City on PS3 so I know it's a great game. I just want to play it again on PC. I already wanted to do a second playthrough but I want to check out some of the DLC that came with the GOTY edition too. I will play it sometime but probably get to Origins first to play a story I haven't already seen.

Most of the reviews I have seen about Arkham Origins say it's just more of the same. The general consensus seemed to be that they didn't bring any big innovations or improvements to the series but it still had the same solid gameplay the other Arkham games had. I liked the previous two games in the series enough that more of the same is still worth playing to me. I do hope to see Rocksteady make some major improvements when they get back into the series with their next release though.

Just a FYI, you can get Metal Gear Rising for $15.99 on Gamefly with promo code GFDDEC20

Well, after my Burial at Sea exploits last night I really wanted to jump back into Rapture and finally finish the last 3 or 4 hours of Bioshock 1. Only one problem, It looks like Gamefly has eliminated their unlimited PC play section. This was mostly useless anyways because most of the games were very old and quite a few wouldn't even run on Windows 7 or Windows 8 PCs. This wasn't like a GOG service where they updated the games to fix compatibility problems. There were a couple games like Fallout 1, Far Cry 1, Assassins Creed 1, and Bioshock 1 that I could have taken advantage of though.

I played Bioshock 1 back in 2006 but I still haven't played Bioshock 2 or the reportedly good Minerva's Den DLC. This Gamefly change has me looking at my options for buying Bioshock again. I have Bioshock 2 on PS3 free from PS+ but they are charging $10 for the Minerva's Den DLC that I already know I want to play.

Steam has a double pack of Bioshock 1 and 2 for that same $10. If you haven't played any of the Bioshock games they have a triple pack that includes Infinite for $14 listed here. Seriously buy this.

After a little more digging I found this 2K Shooter Pack on Amazon for $10 too. This pack includes Bioshock, Bioshock 2, Borderlands GOTY Edition, and Duke Nukem Forever Complete Pack. These are still Steam codes for those who care about that. I already have Borderlands GOTY Edition so I will be happy to give that steam code to any SatGuy who wants it. Just send me a PM and it's yours.

Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation HD (the Vita Exclusive now for PC) is available for $4 on Green Man Gaming with the Voodoo pack DLC if you use promo code GMG20-ZB5D1-93X49

Speaking of, you should keep an eye on GMG as they are having a sale, and they also have a promo code for an additional 20% off their already discounted price, so often you may be able to beat the Steam prices.

Yeah, I'll be watching this one too. Here is a tip for anyone who might be looking at this as their first Steam sale. The general rule seems to be wait until the last day of the sale to see if it goes up as a Flash Sale, Community Vote, or Daily Deal. The same game might appear multiple times as under one of these categories during the week but once you see it in any of those that is the lowest it will go. It sucks to buy a game for 40% or 50% off today and then see it for 75% or 80% off tomorrow.
60% off for flash sale. Expires at 9pm EST.

The Walking Dead Season 2 Pass for PS3 is now up for $14.99.

I assumed it would be $19.99, so I planned to wait for all episodes to be released and a price drop. But for $14.99, might have to jump on it now. :)

EDIT: OK, here's the story, buried in the comments of a post on the PS Blog regarding season 2, a TellTale rep announced:

As a special thank you to those who purchased Episode 1 early AND those who’ve been waiting for the Season Pass before playing the premiere, the Season Pass (which includes Episodes 1-5) will have a special introductory price of just $14.99 USD or equivalent until January 7th.

So grab it soon!

Nice find. That one wasn't listed on the home page.
Apparently it was too much for Steam. The store went down for like 4 hours. GoG (who went through something similar when it put Fallout for free) tweeted this to them:

The steam flash sale for tonight is pretty good. Lego Marvel is $14.99 and Saints Row IV is $19.99.

Cool! I'll pick it up at that price.

January will be another Blockbuster month of free games for PS Plus members:

PS3
Bioshock Infinite
DMC Devil May Cry
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons

PS4
Don't Starve

Vita:
Worms Battle Island
Smart As

I came very close to grabbing Infinite over the past month for $20, but kept telling myself to wait for a complete or GOTY edition. Glad I waited. Now I can just spend the $20 on a season pass instead. :)

Very good month for PS+. The only problem is that I already own all of those except for the Vita games.
