Upgrading to Genie

I thought the HS17 could NOT feed a TV? (Rendering that another downgrade that Directv calls an upgrade)
Correct, the HS-17 has no outputs on the unit that hook to a TV.....Thats why any TVs need a client or RVU ready TV to work with th HS-17.

stop misleading people
sure you dont pay for the hs17, because it can feed a tv
downside of a mini is it cost the same per month has a dvr, genie, or reciver
hs17+3 minis cost the same per month as hr54 and 2 minis
both setup will feed 3 tvs

You say to stop misleading people
Then have a "Type" that is more misleading..
It's confusing.

It can't! That's the benefit and the downside of it.

Benefit: It can be placed anywhere in the house and is a central point for all functions. Also capable of two 4K streams.
Drawback: It can't output to a TV, requires ONLY clients and if it goes, everything goes.

Really, there's no perfect solution. All you can do is educate yourself and weigh the options.

By "type" I'm sure mdram meant "typo" earlier ...

And to copy edit his previous post I'm also sure he meant ...

Stop misleading people ...

Sure you don't pay the monthly mirror fee for the HS17, because it can't feed a TV directly.

The downside of a mini client is that it cost the same per month as a DVR, Genie, or a non-DVR receiver.

The HS17 + 3 mini clients will cost the same per month as an HR54 and 2 minis.

And both setups will actually feed 3 TVs
