UPDATE! 12-21-05 Dish Transmitting CBS-E HD in 1440x1080i

Hmmm,

Is there any way I cann tell what I'm getting (with my 921).

I have both CBS E & W (148 & 61.5) and could compare the two. Are they both at 720p or just 129 & 61.5? The game is about to start, I can take a look. I also have both a 1080i tube and a 720p DLP - could be an interesting comparsion (though I usually don't see much difference).

(I like the West feed since I can record Cold Case without worrying about NFL)

I'm in the camp that feels Dish should NOT be molesting the received HD signal

148 should still be the original 1080i transmission. That would be great if you guys could record and compare the same show from both feeds and do a comparision.

Just called and spoke with Dish, you are only allowed 1 CBS from either 61.5 or 148, they would not activate 148 for me being I have 61.5 already

Sorry that means I am of no help to you guys on 148 CBS

I get CBS HD from 61.5 and OTA here in NYC. I was able to compare both feeds on my 942. I recorded both feed and compared. Before this change on the 61.5 I was always happy because both looked the same to me and I usuallly recorded the satellite feed and recorded something else OTA. Now, the satellite feed of CBS HD has compression artifacts on any running action on the football game. If you look closely, while the players are running there is shimering behind them and you will actually "see" artifacts in the grass behind the player that is running. If you look at the same play OTA the compression artifact is not there.

I couldn't agree more. you would think they would get a "talking to" from CBS about this. I'm sure they won't be happy.

My local CBS runs in 720p so they can have UPN at 480i and a weather radar. They have been doing this for a couple of years now. I don't get any break ups on it, but it sure doesn't look as good as my ABC or FOX at 720p.

Maybe if enough of Dish's customers complained to CBS they may do something about it. Does Viacom own CBS and UPN? That maybe why they let them do it.

I never would have though CBS would have stood for that.
I wouldn't have thought so either until a poster at another board mentioned the fact that DirecTV has been doing CBS in 1280x1080i for years. So the precedent is there for the satco to change the incoming resolution to something other than what it is received at.

F&*!'in DBStalk , God I hate that place, what a smart ass reply I got(from a moderator taking my words out of context)

Funny I knew who the moderator was before I even checked it out ;)

For some reason I never like it when he posts, seems he posts just for the sake of of it and to defend virtually everything Dish does. Now if he had read the post he quoted, you were not saying 720p was acceptable, but was the lessor of two evils.

I know how you all feel any time i got to post anything over there.. I immediately get banned... Its because I always prove that mod wrong and i was trying to get the right information out.... (although posting a link over here to correct info and info that broke out here first didn't help) :) But anyhow.. I use this term very loosely in this case :D keep it on topic. :) back on topic. I haven't sent out my emails yet... I haven't had time to (been putting Christmas presents for my little girl together) I have officially gone on vacation from school so I will be around all though more in the next couple of weeks. so if something breaks between now and CES I will be here to bring you full coverage :) Unfortunately I wont be able to make it to CES this year.. :(

like Dish Network is going to fix a problem like this in less than 24 hours, though in the end I am willing to bet one of my nards that this is a mistake ;

Gosh Gary. What will your wife say? First you say its a MISTAKE - then you say it's a PROBLEM that can't be corrected in 20 hours. You can't have it both ways. A mistake can be corrected very easily within 20 hours. A PROBLEM exhibits that this wasn't a mistake because there was planning that went into it - thus it takes longer to fix. Sorry - you can't have it both ways as you typically want.

I am still waiting to here back from contact with Dish, I am anxious to see what they say as I have opened a pretty healthy chat with them since all this HD stir up a few weeks back

Great connections you have there as the two people right above your post have both CBS East and West.
