The Road to SuperBowl XLIV: The Official 2010 NFL Playoffs Thread

Mega props to the Colts for taking the Jets down. Clearly, the better team won. That was one of the great games I have ever seen a QB play. Peyton just continues to climb the ladder of all-time QB's, and he's already getting close to the top rung.

Go get another ring, Peyton.

The Jets simply aren't good enough (yesterday anyway) to overcome the injury to Shonn Greene at the beginning of the second half. When he went away, so did their offense. Thomas Jones is a great complement to Greene, but all by himself he could not get it done against that defense.

Would have been nice to have Leon Washington back there as an alternative (and Kris Jenkins in the DL too), but I'm sure the Colts would have been happier if Anthony Gonzalez and Bob Sanders were playing as well.

So happy for my nephew. At least two weeks from yesterday the whole family will be on his side this time, rooting for the Colts.

Very impressed with Mark Sanchez. As the importance of the games became higher and higher, Sanchez played better and better. Great job, kid. Glad you're on our side!

Everyone who likes to pick on Rex Ryan should also note the comments by Ryan and the Jets after the game. I heard Ryan, Sanchez and Revis, and they were all extremely respectful to the Colts and all they've accomlished. No sour grapes, the Jets showed dignity and class in defeat.

Proud to be a Jet fan today. Go Colts!

Another comparison between Mark Sanchez and Jamarcus Russell...

Sanchez came up huge in the playoffs as a rookie...and Jamarcus Russell is huge!! How freaky is that? ;) :D

It's like they're twins!

Iceberg, I know I would have felt the same way had the outcome been the other way around. It almost was. I was so nervous I couldn't eat before the game...

As a Saints fan, I congratulate the Vikings for playing one heck of a season and for a great game. All season long, I think fans of both teams wanted it to come down to both of us playing in the championship game. The Vikings kept the heat on the Saints in the homefield advantage race throughout the season. Hats off to them for a competitive season and a hard-fought game!

Go Saints in SB44!

LOL!! Whatever.....comeback to me next year and let's see how he is doing. FACT IS, they had similar stats with JaMarcus doing a little more with ALOT less.

Stats can say whatever you want them to say. You could probably find a way to use stats to compare Jamarcus Russell to Johnny Unitas if you wanted to.

Here is a better test...would the Raiders trade Jamarcus Russell to the Jets for Mark Sanchez even up? ;)

Or, even funnier, would the Jets trade Sanchez to the Raiders right now for Jamarcus Russell?

What an emotional game..up and down and up and down. I still couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the completed FG at the end. I'm still in shock.

They had quite a few bad calls during this game... loved the one they totally missed where N.O. intercepted the ball. They player was down and so was the Vikings player. The Saint's player stood up with the ball after the whistle was blown. The Viking got up and ran over and hit the Saints player. Uhh.... where's the flag?

At one point I thought I was watching LSU playing with all the penalty flags.

you really think the season for the jets would've had the same result or better with russel at the helm instead of sanchez? just his negative attitude would've been enough to F*** things up imo

Oh, don't go here...you're just giving him more ammunition.

The question is, would the Raiders trade Russell even-up for Sanchez...and versa vice?

Actually, with all the crowd noise I don't think the players could hear the whistle, and the refs realized that. The Saints player got up and looked like he was going to advance the ball and the Viking player did what he was supposed to do.

I kept going back and forth on who I wanted to win. Unlike LSU, after 20 years of losing I lost interest in the Saints when I left Louisiana in the late 80's. I really became a Favre fan when I lived in Wisconsin for a while, and my folks live not very far from Kiln (Picayune, MS). I thought I was pulling for him until the Saints intercepted that pass on that last drive - I jumped up and yelled I was so excited! :D

The Saints were indeed lucky to have come out on top in that game after not taking advantage of all of Minnesota's mistakes. But, thinking back to suffering through those early years with them as a youngster, it tugged at the heart strings when that kick went through the uprights and those players started celebrating. :)

it's ok i respect salsa's opinion but so far russell has been a bust especially in the attitude department. at the moment he cant fill the role of a leader as he should being the qb. sanchez in his rookie season has proven to be much more of a leader and a positive influence for the team than fat neck (russell) ever has. sanchez has also proven to be more accurate with his passes than russell has in his time with the raiders. i understand he has less salsa but you have said yourself that he can be extremely inaccurate at times. when your team plays better with their backup there is definitely something wrong. and they did play much better with gradkowski or whatever his name is :D

Thats 6 points the Jets have missed out on, hope it doesn't come back to haunt them.

Actually, I started watching the Colts a year or so ago when Anthony Gonzalas (Buckeye's) was drafted there ..... unfortunatly after becoming the next go to guy after Reggie, Anthony was injured(ACL, if I remember correctly) in the first game this year and is missing out on all the fun they are having there.

I am beginning to wonder if he'll get back on the field next year with the way the others have been playing this year.

On the other side (Jets) Nick Mangold has helped solidify the Offensive line with Ferguson and Woody (former Lion and Colt) and Alan Fanaca former Steeler
Also Ben Hartsock (TE) for the Jets another former Buck.

Don't forget Pierre Garcon is from DIII Powerhouse, Mount Union (Alliance, Ohio).

Congratulation's to the Colts & Saints for advancing. No need to hang your heads low Jets/Vikes fans. Your teams had great seasons too.

As for Favre, I hate to see him go out like that. An interception in what may very well be the final play of his career? This wasn't how the story was supposed to end. They needed just a few more yards to give Longwell an attempt at winning the game! Ugh! I know there was plenty other reasons why the Vikings lost yesterday, but Favre will be replaying that last play in his head for the rest of his life. Poor Brett. :(

Poor Brett?

C'mon Man, really. I dare say he's replaying a pass from 2 years ago more than yesterday's. That one DID cost the Packers a trip to the Super Bowl.

Deja vu all over again. Classic Favre.

I guess the 12th man really can win the big games!

It was a simple comparison after 15 games started. Nothing more and nothing less. The numbers do not hide and they speak for themselves. AFTER THIS SEASON for Russell, he has regressed. But let's compare the two after a couple of season for BOTH.

No MY fault the numbers state this. ;)

What shows you how good the Vikes are is that they had all kinds of mistakes and maybe a few calls go against them(no that there was some kind of conspiracy, but sometimes, calls just go against you) and they STILL almost one the game. Personally, I do not think Favre will have a better statistical season at this stage of his career like he did last year.

...BUT one never knows.....

So I'm assuming you WOULD trade Russell for Sanchez even up right now...;)

so you're saying lets give sanchez more time before comparing them both? sounds fair. so this shouldn't be up for debate at all right now. ok :)
