The LeBron James Free Agency Thread

OK I am going to go out on a limb and make a prediction here. Lebron re-signs in Cleveland, but only for a 2-3 year contract. He gets to save face in his hometown region, gives his home team a chance to put a better team around him, and isn't locked in for very long in case they don't.

Obviously this means we go through this whole thing AGAIN in 2-3 years...which Lebron seems to like as well. At that point Lebron will still be in his prime, Kobe, Wade, etc., will be 2-3 years older and probably not as King-like anymore, and unlike this year it will all be about Lebron.

Women's intuition... ;)

I would agree ONLY if he gets HIS coach and HIS GM....IF he does not get that, sayonara.....he is gone. That is what I still think it is 50-50.

BUT...I would say IF he DOES stay....that mean he held that team and city hostage for exactly what he wanted....which in the end, it would be more about HIM than about the city of Cleveland and the Cavs franchise.

Well, the coach and GM are gone, and I'm sure everyone agrees Lebron at the very least has input into who replaces them. And it sounds like those wheels are already in motion with Tom Izzo... ;)

Well....what I have read, the owner is a Michigan State is an alum and wanted Izzo BEFORE they gave Brown the coaching job....so I think that has little to do with Lebron.

I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.

EDIT:

This is hardly the first time Izzo has been linked to the Cleveland job. Gilbert is a Michigan State graduate and a longtime Izzo admirer who, according to NBA coaching sources, also investigated the feasibility of hiring Izzo in the summer of 2005, when the Cavs also flirted with Larry Brown before hiring Mike Brown.

You're absolutely right. Gilbert has liked Izzo for a long time.

On a separate note, one of the first moves as owner was bringing in the Detroit Piston play x play TV guy as well. Gilbert still has a lot of friends in Michigan and wants to bring those relationships to Cleveland.

I know LeBron is a Calipari guy. I assume he likes Izzo too, but I've honestly never seen a quote stating that.

I honestly do not understand that connect between Cali-slimy and Lebron. I mean I have never heard much talk about them being buddy-buddies or anything like great mutual respect.....

You want to know what my favorite thing about this whole LeBron/ free agency ordeal is?

There has been a lot of teams and scenarios rumored to have the edge on landing LeBron this offseason, but I haven't heard 1 PEEP out of New York in quite a while! LMAO! I thought those SOB's thought they where "entitled" to LeBron? :D

Don't worry, after Lebron re-ups in Cleveland for 2-3 years there is a very good chance he'll be heading to Brooklyn for his next contract. He'd probably be heading there now if he didn't have to endure playing in Newark for 2 years.

Be careful what you ask for, you just might get it... ;)

Very True. :up;)

Wow, here's another owner heard from, who's not even an owner yet!!! :p

Would LeBron James be willing to play for the Los Angeles Clippers if Donald Sterling no longer owned the team? Billionaire entertainment mogul David Geffen wants to find out.

A source close to the situation confirmed reports that Geffen is interested in purchasing a majority share of the Clippers -- and that the long-shot attempt to convince Sterling to cede operating control of the team is among the reasons James and close friend Maverick Carter were in Los Angeles over the weekend.

Sterling has insisted for nearly three decades that he will never sell the franchise. But the New York Post reported in Tuesday's editions that Geffen -- who already has a working relationship with James and Carter -- has expressed interest in buying a 51 percent stake in the Clippers.

James was invited to watch Game 2 of the NBA Finals at Staples Center in Geffen's seats, sources confirmed, but he ultimately elected not to attend Boston's eventual 103-94 victory, fearful of the spectacle his courtside presence would create at a time that James' impending free agency has routinely drawn media attention away from the playoffs.

In a serious effort/marketing move, the Harlem Globetrotters are making a pitch to sign LeBron & Dwyane Wade & offering ownership!

Will offer 51 percent of of revenue from licensed merchandise sales with no limit plus part ownership.

And since the 'Trotters haven't lost since '71, if he signs with anyone else, then we'll know that winning is NOT his top priority. ;) :D

In Chicago this week and there was A LOT of college players working out here BEFORE the draft...and Wes Johnson, confirmed what was told to me by my former Chicago media buddies on his FACEBOOK page....Lebron in town on the same day the introduce the BULLS new head coach.......hhhmmmmmm.....LOL!

Miami and Chicago both trade off their picks before the draft along with Cook and Hinnrich. Hmmmmm..... that's a lot of cap space opened for both teams. Not looking good for Cleveland, sorry Matt.

Screw LeBoob! If he leaves, I'm done with NBA basketball. I might as well find another hobby, because there's no saving grace in any of my other sports either. The Injuns are a joke too. Pretty sad when the best thing going for this sports town are the Browns.
