The LeBron James Free Agency Thread

Yeah....but if you add up what it cost to drive in that state, live in that state, buy in that state...it adds up.

I know, I lived there for 9 years and my wife lived there for 28 years. ADD the state taxes....and it adds up REAL quick. I lived there from 88-97 and I thought it was VERY expensive then!
How high of a priority do you really think tax savings is when it comes to LeBron's next destination choice?? If it's as high as you seem to think it is, he's not as serious about winning as he claims to be.

There are creative ways around that though. Why do you think a large portion of A-Rod's* contract is deferred?? :)

Why did you have to go ahead and break up our witty repartee' with logic, cosmo? ;) :D

For the same reasons that alot of athletes live in Florida during the off season. Heard it MANY times by many athletes both personally and in interviews.

EVERYTHING comes into play...not just the tax issue as well of way of life as well as winning.;)

One more thing about THIS comment...would you rather defer some taxes or pay NO TAXES at all? And oh yeah, where DOES A-Rod live again?;)

You just proved the point that you don't have to play in the place in order to reap the tax advantage. ;)

Nobody cares where Lebron James lives. The debate is over where he will play.

There are times where....oh boy, never mind.:mad:

I am saying that there are advantages in signing in either Florida or Texas...SANDRA...and those advantages have been stated by pro athletes in ALL professional sports.

But you are being you usual, contradictory self....you do what ya gotta do...I guess.

Whatever. You're trying to make a point that Lebron James may choose to play in Florida because taxes are lower. Then you state that A-Rod lives in Florida because taxes are lower, when he obviously does not have to play in Florida to do it.

You contradict yourself, but call ME contradictory!

Jeez.

AND I am SURE if A-Rod was in the Marlins or Rays every day line-up....he/they would not be losing....;)

Remember the A-Rod in Texas experiment?

A lot of people thought that with him in that ballpark with a decent hitting team, they wouldn't lose.

He hit well, but they finished dead last in the AL West each year because they had a pitching staff that was beyond pathetic.

I SAID there were advantages to signing with either a Texas team or a Florida team because of the tax situation. I ALSO stated that because of those tax situations, Lebron MAY chose to play in Miami. The more than likely reason he never signed with Florida is because he knew full well they would never pay his signing price. IF Florida HAD the money to do that....they would have signed him a LONG time ago.

I brought up him living in Florida because he has ALWAYS chose to live here for those and a way of life reasons, not to mention he is from here and his children are here.

Very true...they also had a few general managers that had NO CLUE who or how to sign free agents.....A-Rod's contract is the perfect example.

And, if Texas had ANYTHING close to the pitching staff and Handley Ramirez in their line, EVEN with all their faults....they would have won in Texas.

NOW, Texas has hitting AND pitching AND some smarts when it comes to signing free agents....and where are they now?! The 2nd best record in ALL of the Majors.

Just when I thought I heard every possible pro/con in the summer of LeBron.

What about this...

Would you rather be a big fish in a small pond? Or a medium sized fish in a large pond?

LeBron is an attention seeking glutton. You see it on a nightly basis when he dramatically goes down in "agony", coaxing the crowd into thinking he's seriously injured only to pop right up a few minutes later and play like nothing was ever wrong. He's been like that his entire career. He's one of the biggest media whores ever. I think what he's doing now is just that. Attention seeking. In the end, he'll come home. After all, home is where the heart is!

And besides, everyone talks about how LeBron won't go where Wade goes, because two stars/alpha-dogs won't be able to share the same spotlight. What about going to another city where he isn't the #1 guy in town? I'm not sure his ego can handle that.
