Stargate SG-1 Discussion

I gather Stargate SG-1 is the first TV series. What sequence would you recommend for watching the entire franchise? I've watched the first movie, and have seen bits and pieces here and there.

I put SG-1 on my Blockbuster@home queue and it put all 5 discs in queue automatically. It seems all five are available. One out at a time.

Just going by release dates, the following seems to be the sequence. But is that the logical progression of the franchise? Where should I "fit in" Atlantis? Does it logically matter for properly following the entire storyline?

Stargate the movie, 1994
SG-1 TV series, 1997-2007
The Ark of Truth movie, 2008
Continuum movie, 2008
Atlantis TV series, 2004-2009
Universe TV series, 2009-2010

I assume the animated Infinity can be ignored.

Thank you.

Start with SG1. They'll send you one disc at a time. I'm watching the fifth disc of season 1 right now.

I'm amazed at how much of season 1's themes are built upon in later years. It's really quite impressive.

I thought the same thing when we watched it again.... wow, season 1 had so much in it but it got even better from then through 8 - we didnt like the ori arc much but couldnt stop watching anyway

I'm not fond of the ori either, but it was still better than 99% of other tv offerings.

Atlantis came on around S7 or so and there was some interaction between the two...

It was the end of Season 7 when Jackson found the key to finding Atlantis. It was season 8 when the two shows began to air simultaneously. Indeed, the pilot of Atlantis came a week or so after the start of season 8 (O'Neill was a general in the pilot). The interaction between the two shows began in Season 2 of Atlantis and Season 9 of SG-1 (as in the first interactive episode which involved the alien technology making them think they went back to SGC, Landry was in command). Then once the Daedalus came into being, it was an on-going interaction.

Not that I have been WATCHING a LOT of SG-1 and Atlantis lately. :)

Next up for me is The Pegasus Project (Season 10, episode 3 or 4).

I still hate the "Ori Arc" but luckily Season 9 had more than enough non-Ori stuff to keep it interesting, and Adria does not rear her annoying head until season 10.

It wasn't awful. I didn't find it as fun and engaging as the rest of the season, but it was still good. Just not my favorite part of the series.

I did like looking at Adria.

I actually stopped watching religiously during the Ori arc due to the changes and it was in SD and there were so many more HD choices becoming available... Watched the Reckoning Pt 1 last night.

I don't "get it"...what is so awful about the Ori arc?

I never liked it. I truly despise the actress who played Adria; and the whole "hallowed by the ori" stuff just did not sit well with me. I much preferred false-Gods with snakes in their heads, and armies of Jaffa. After eight seasons to defeat false-gods, all the writer's could do was come up with another more dangerous set of false-gods?

I will admit to disliking it LESS this time around, but its disappointing that this is how the show had to go out.

You may not have liked Morena Baccarin as Adria but she made a great alien queen on V. She has been in a lot great sci-fi type series too. Stargate,Firefly, V. I have to say I'm actually a fan.

Actually because of her role on SG-1, it ruined her role on V. For some reason her role on Firefly did not annoy.

I saw her in SG1 before Firefly, hated her in Stargate, but loved her in Firefly, didn't get into V ...

I was a late-comer to SG-1, so by the time I got to Season 10, I had seen Firefly.

I don't know if its the actress, or if I have type-cast her since SG-1, but I just did not like her character, and thus, it made the end of SG-1 harder to enjoy. All that said, I love SG-1 - in many ways (and I speak blasphemy here) more that... gasp... Star Trek... And now that my second full run through the series is about over, I will have to decide what I want to watch. Guess I could start again :)

Interesting reactions to my "Ori arc" question... I never had a problem with it and Adria was easy on the eyes, despite how annoying her character was. It wasn't as strong or engaging a story arc as the system lords or the replicators, but it had some really good episodes.

Her annoyances outweighed how easy she was on the eyes.

The Ori arc didn't seem right as Carter was the most experienced, yet Browder was in command that didn't sit right with me...

EXACTLY!!!! Been grappling with that. Its almost like they are co-commanders, but it makes little sense to have two colonels on the same SG unit. I actually almost posted this earlier today!
