As we get into winter here in the Chicago Area, and I have already suffered one "iceing issue", it's about time to modify the software on any receiver with OTA capabilities to be able to get to the Guide and select an OTA channel when the "signal is lost" message appears. Nothing is more frustrating than to have to play games with the controller for several minutes to try to get to an OTA channel when this occurs. I can't be the only one whe has experienced this.

Press "MENU" on the remote then choose the Program Guide option. It seems that the "MENU" button overrides any on-screen messages.

Oh that is NICe to know, hall... thanks for that one. :)

You could also just split your OTA coax so it connects to both the satellite receiver and the TV.

Loss of signal on SAT = switch TV input to ANT. :)

Done deal.

It always surprises me how many people don't know about the menu/guide thing. I have customers call me all the time upset that they can't see their local OTA when the sat signal goes out.. Menu - Guide and back in business.. No need for software updates.. That would just be asking for trouble. Whenever they fix something on the software, they break something else..

Really though, why is the "GUIDE" button effectively dead when you lose satellite signal though ? If it wasn't, people wouldn't run into this.

Thanks for the information. I thought there just might be someone who knew the secret around this problem.

Assuming, of course, that your receiver isn't set up to reboot at some time during the ice-storm and wipe out your EPG info.

Here I thought the OP was going to ask that the firmware be changed to send 120V out the Satellite Dish connector in order to melt the ice... ;)

Optimum setup of Dish Antennas?

Is a DVD Recorder compatible with the 622 receiver?
