Paramount +

I don’t have a Roku to test. I was just going on what Bruce said about his Roku. Which Roku device do you have?
I have not tested it with my Roku Ultra yet, not hooked up until I get the new stand built.

My picture was from using my TCL QM85 app.

I just tested this with my Roku Ultra, AppleTV 4K, and 4K Firestick using Fire Country as my test program. All of them showed 4K in their slates all of them played in 4K. The slate did not show HDR at all and none of them played in HDR of any kind. I did test Star Trek Discovery and it showed 4K/Dolby Vision in the slate and played that way as well. I don’t think any of the CBS programming has HDR.

So nothing on P+ has HDR?

Some ( all the Star Treks and Halo) of these said both HDR or DV, not all.

Also tried Matlock again, then Tracker, both times, it turned on Smart HDR , now neither says HDR, but as I proven with the picture earlier in this thread, it was available and definitely looked it.

Isn't Smart HDR just HDR created by the device? Similar to what the Apple TV does with the video set to 4K HDR with Frame Rate and Dynamic Range turned on? It is forced device HDR and not HDR from the video itself.

It does not pop on for other non HDR programming, for example YTTV or for 4K SDR ( certain movies on Vudu).

Also, if you look at the pictures above, no way could I make those say HDR.

OK…looking at your picture shows Seal Team as 4K HDR so Paramount+ must have HDR in the content they send to the Roku app. On my Apple TV the Seal Team info just says HDR and if I set my Apple TV to match frame rate and dynamic range it is playing as 4K SDR so the content they send to the Apple TV Paramount+ app is not HDR. If it were the setting to match frame rate and dynamic range would display it as HDR10. The only way I can make it play as HDR10 is to have the Apple TV video setting to 4K HDR and to change the setting for match frame rate and dynamic range to OFF. That forces the video to play the content as HDR10 no matter how the Paramount+ content is supplied. And the good news is that it does improve the picture. The bad news is I have to change my default setting to watch the 4K without HDR content. On the P+ 4K movies where they specify in the info page if they have DV or HDR they play correctly with my default settings.

That's why I think the theory that P+ labels some shows as HDR when they aren't really feeding HDR to the TV is correct. The only P+ content that is sending a true HDR feed to my TV shows Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos in the listing.

Yes, I just tested Seal Team, Season 7 Episode 1, and it was listed as Dolby Vision and played that way on all three of my streamers. I researched Bruce’s TCL Smart HDR and noted that it would add HDR to an SDR source. So, it appears to be TV generated not source generated.

Except it automatically went to that setting when the HDR metadata is available.

Has done that for the CBS shows and for Fox’s fake 4K in HDR on the FoxSports App, it does not automatically go to Smart HDR for 4K SDR programming.

Seems you spent a lot of money for a TV that fakes HDR

It is not fake HDR, I put up the screen shots that shows the programming is available in HDR.

Yet your TV does not supply true HDR from those feeds, because they are not available. The only true HDR content on P+ comes from the content that says Dolby Atmos / Dolby Vision.

Which I have also, again, Paramount provides programming in HDR, DV or both.

One more time-

My TV cannot make it say HDR.

Yeah I didn’t notice the program info for Seal Team where it shows “Dolby Vision” and although my TV doesn’t have DV I do get the HDR flag when I play it and my TV reports it is HDR10.

The show info for him does show HDR and he is getting HDR. I watch 2 TV shows that the show info says 4K Dolby Vision (Seal Team and NCIS:Sydney). The rest of the TV shows I watch only says 4K and they are SDR when I play them.

Seal Team shows as both HDR and DV and I get DV-
