NHL 2011-12 Season

As well you should. Wasn't this supposed to be a breakout year for the Jackets?

It has been a comedy of errors here in Columbus. Funny part about the protest is that the Blue Jackets owner has stated that he will be providing warm refreshments to the protesters to help fight off the cold weather. This has gone to about 20 people talking about protesting to an estimate between 1000 and 2000 people that will be out there Saturday. It is all over the news around here now.

So what are you doing tomorrow afternoon at 2PM?

Spent my morning with issues at work. I wish I could have been down there to show my support.

Some good news was announced for Columbus and the Blue Jackets. They will be host of the 2013 NHL All-Star game. Can't wait and I will be there to see the game and skills competition.

AND DOWN THE STRETCH THEY COME!!!

Back to the real hockey world.

Hockey Prospectus predicts some drop off to torrid 31-12-4 pace the Rangers have set in the first half of the season, which I understand. While stat-based analysis has it's limitations, it is logical to think the Rangers may not be able to quite keep up the pace they've set as the team with the best overall record in the NHL.

The good news is...they don't have to! One thing which does seem pretty certain about the Rangers is that, unlike other years, they've built their record to a point where they can survive a slump and still finish pretty high in the standings. Wow.

The Rangers are a very young team, and it would only be natural for them to hit a soft wall sometime this Spring. Hopefully Tortorella gets that out of the way and has the team prepared for a playoff run.

What stat-based analysis (or any analysis) cannot say for certain is when Marc Staal will return to all-star form. His season did not start until January 2, and he's still rounding into form. Add one of the best defensemen in the league to this group, and this team could do something special.

Of course once mid-April rolls around, it will come down to goaltending (yay!) and staying healthy (a potential boo). This team blocks so many shots it runs the risk of a Ryan Callahan breaking his foot...just like he did last year right before the playoffs started.

At least Ranger fans shouldn't have to worry about battling for the dreaded 8th playoff spot for a change.

The "secret sauce" to the Stanley Cup final is staying healthy, gaining home ice advantage, and peaking at the start of the playoffs. Should be an exciting and competitive second-half of the season. :)

Agreed. Combine all that with a white hot goalie, and bon appetit!! :)

Another shot to the Jackets happened last night in a game against the LA Kings. At the end of the game the Kings scored with .4 seconds left on the clock. After further review after the game was over it was found that the official game clock had a "glitch" or human error and paused at 1.8 seconds for a good second. The league is not investigating the incident but this just shows that even in a year that nothing has gone right it can get even worse.

Now this has nothing that will effect the Jackets but I sure hope that the Kings don't stop another team from making the playoffs by a single point.

Wings need to get Jimmy Howard back, who is out for a couple weeks due to a finger injury. Howard has quiety become one of the best goalies in the league.

Yes, Unfortunately I can see the Wings long winning streak at home coming to an end.

Currently at 17 games, I thought I had read the record was 20 straight wins at home.

Wings getting to face-off shortly at home against Anaheim. Hopefully we can get a decent performance out of Conklin or MacDonald this evening. We shall see. Oh, and Michigan will be facing-off at the Michigan State Spitoonies. Go Wings! Go Wolverines!

Michigan Stadium to host Wings-Leafs Classic

Next year's Winter Classic will set an attendance record in excess of 115,000 fans. We all knew this was coming.

The Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs will began 2013 by renewing their rivalry at one of North America's most iconic stadiums.

The two Original Six foes will play in the Winter Classic on Jan. 1 at Michigan Stadium, part of an outdoor showcase that will also include minor league and college hockey games at Detroit's Comerica Park.

Toronto will become the first Canadian team to play in the Winter Classic when the Maple Leafs and Red Wings face off in Ann Arbor, about 45 miles west of Detroit.

"It's Hockeytown versus the center of the hockey universe," Toronto general manager Brian Burke said.

Nice to see the team of Ken Daniels and Mickey Redmond (Fox Sports Detroit) calling the game on NHL Network. Where else can you hear comments about wearing underwear inside-out during an extended roadtrip. :D Plus, all that honest, accurate, no-holds commentary. :)

If the winter classic does well in Michigan than maybe they will have one at beaver stadium with a game between the pens and flyers.

It will be a great event with the hockey fans here and Toronto, it will be a great hockey weekend
