NFL preseason 2010-2011 Official discussion thread!

Adam Schefter says the Raiders look to be the clear cut leaders in the McNabb derby, and that they don't care about his contract and that it could cost them $20 million to franchise him next year if they had to.

I'd think that the quickly public leaks of interest in Rosenfels might have just been pressure to get the Eagles to OK a trade with Oakland.

Oakland Raider Fans Are Victims of False Rumor Mongerers

ESPN analyst Adam Schefter Hall of Famer Willie Brown Local sports columnist Tim Kawakami False rumor mongerer Michael Lombardi None of the above vote to see results Heading into this season, we can be sure of at least one thing:

JaMarcus Russell is in the shape of his life and has been training in Phoenix, AZ, every day up until OTAs started. He's totally different from last year and lost quite a bit of weight. He is having special meals brought in and has a former Raider monitoring his progress.

Or at least according to Willie Brown.

Oh wait sorry... according to Tim Kawakami who has an "alleged source" close to the Raiders JaMarcus weighed in at 271 at OTAs.

Wait wait wait... that can't be right...because, according to ESPN analyst Adam Schefter, Jamarcus just tipped the scales at 290.

If Schefter said it, then it must be true...

I mean, Tom Cable was indicted on assault charges by the Napa-PD, then the Raiders fired Cable after the Ravens game. Also, don't forget Mike Shanahan is now coaching the Kansas City Chiefs.

Adam Schefter reported all that as well...oh wait, you mean none of that actually happened? And half the stuff Schefter says is completely bull.

At least two people here are liars, but who?

Adam Schefter reports pretty much everything and anything regardless of sources, integrity, or believability. And he's wrong about as often as he is right.

So picking out liar No. 1 seems easy

Hall of Famer Willie Brown is a former Raider player, former Raider coach, and still works for the team. So out of the three, he is easily the most reliable source.

But he is a bit of a Raider-homer. I would never call the great Willie Brown a liar. But that doesn't make him incapable of exaggerating, stretching the truth, or having an overly-pro-Raider bias.

Then there's Tim Kawakami. He is a documented Raider-hater who constantly spews opinionated anti-Raider bias.
Though he often slights the Raiders in his articles and his opinions may rub some fans the wrong way, I don't think he has ever fabricated information or flat-out lied. I mean, that would just be bad journalism.

Unless John Herrera was right when he called Kawakami a liar.

As much as it pains me to say it...I think Kawakamis' report of 271 may have been the most accurate.
Then there are the McNabb trade talks.

Some how from a team "entertaining offers" and another team allegedly inquiring about availability were people able to connect the dots and somehow come to absurd conclusions like the Raiders actually pursuing a trade for Donovan McNabb. Some people have even gone as far as to suggest the Raiders are offering Nnamdi Asomugha.

It would seem some people have vivid imaginations.

Now, the talk seems to be about the Raiders pursuing Sage Rosenfels.

These rumors are just as baseless.

According to Mike Lombardi, he has spoken to a team executive, who told him the Raiders and Vikings were discussing the availability of Sage Rosenfels...

Really? You mean like Raiders senior executive John Herrera? The thought of a Raider executive actually speaking to Lombardi is comical.

I am tired of stories citing vague sources like: "A player," "a source close to the team," "multiple sources," or even "a starter."

I mean, at least Lombardi cited a "team executive," though he didn't even clarify for what team.

"Multiple sources" told me the Raiders aren't interested in McNabb. Do you believe me? I mean, any scrub off the street has got to be more credible than Adam Schefter or Yahoo Sports.

These false rumor mongerers just need to leave the Oakland Raiders alone, they are out of control.

IF, You believe Ramone Brown

Yeah, you do realize that the Bleacher Report is just a blog right?

There is a lot of stuff, posted by everyone, that ends up not true. I generally stick to the insiders (PFT, and the big names on Twitter like Mort, Schefter) myself. Anyone can start a column on Bleacher.

If anything, it's the fans' hanging their hopes on news that evokes that kind of response...

OMG, this Bleacher Report article says the Raiders are in the lead going to get McNabb, and doesn't cite any sources so they must KNOW! http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...eepstakes-raiders-emerge-as-leading-candidate

It's on Bleacher Report, it must be true. Citing a few things Schefter has gotten wrong don't invalidate how many he's gotten right.

I'm skeptical of much of the stuff I post, much of it doesn't happen, which is why words like reportedly are used. The point is the conversation, and it's clearly interesting, since this thread that is 'too early to sticky' has more views and posts than any of the older stickies in this forum aside from the NBA thread that started in September.

If Jamarcus came in at 290, why is it just someone on the Bleacher Report trying to debunk it? Why hasn't Cable or even Jamarcus come forward and said it is bunk? It's been a few days, the news has been out there, people are laughing, rolling their eyes, watching the franchise sink to new lows.... but just some guy on Bleacher Report defending the honor of Jamarcus Russel, rather than the franchise desperately trying to transform him into something he isn't - a responsible leader and serviceable NFL quarterback.

Persoanlly, I use to trust just about everything Schefter use to say...but lately, he has been 50-50....so alot of if, I take with a grain of salt.

So, as far as the rumor about McNabb....I think it is a very good possibility. It ALL depends on if the Eagles wanna pay Nnamdi. Also, I am starting to seriously doubt that JaMarcus came into camp at 290....

I think lately it isn't about the insiders being 50-50, but of teams and smokescreens going into the draft.

Other things that fall outside of that, the stories kind of tell themselves. Cable not wanting to talk about weight when Jamarcus was reported to have weighed in at 271 is one thing. The franchise and everyone else remaining silent when it was revealed he was 290 is another. That 271 really sounds pretty good by comparison.

This morning on SportsCenter, Schefter said there is a "mystery" team looking into McNabb, one with an established QB already that prefers to remain anonymous, in case they don't land him...

Broncos didn't get their man and had to trade their starter away as a result of their failed pursuit of Cassel. It's not unreasonable.

That guy you quoted btw salsa is the author of other great Bleacher Report Articles...

"JaMarcus Russell Didn't Fail Us... We Failed Him"

"Yes, I'm Still Defending JaMarcus Russell"

"Open QB Competition? Just Another Lie from Tom Cable"

"Oakland's JaMarcus Russell Is an "Extremely Good" Quarterback"

"Michael Vick and the Oakland Raiders? It's Almost Too Perfect Not to Happen"

"Yes, I'm Still Defending JaMarcus Russell"

I quoted him because I felt the same about alot of the false stories about the Raiders. I have read them ALL. I agree with "Open QB Competition? Just Another Lie from Tom Cable" story because he did not want Russell as his starter so he had to save face. And I also agreed with "Michael Vick and the Oakland Raiders? It's Almost Too Perfect Not to Happen" also....and so did MOST people everywhere.

Sage Rosenfels says 'please don't send me to Oakland.'

"You want to play for a team that has a chance to win a Super Bowl. That's the point. That's why I came here last year. This team is as talented as anyone in the NFL. Playing is great, but winning is even better. I love it here in Minnesota, and I hope to finish my career here."

I saw plenty of him down here in Miami....and he is NO WHERE near as good as he or others think he is.

Two Raiders employees this morning said that all the McNabb to Raiders rumors are false and manufactured by the Eagles to raise his trade value. Asomugha's reps said they haven't been approached about any of the trade talk (though neither has McNabb's, yet the Eagles 'dont want to trade' but 'are listening' and 'want one of the first 43 picks in the draft'. Who knows what's true.

Santonio Holmes has been lashing out at fans on twitter over the last day after his lawsuit news yesterday: http://twitter.com/SanTonio10

- "U as fans would never learn! Remember u don't cut my check"

- @DMKayser "y u tryna make me look like the bad guy. U shud try finding the worst thing that you could drink n kill urself"

Wow.
