NFL preseason 2010-2011 Official discussion thread!

The "Namath Curse". Well, a lot of Jet fans believe that good ole Joe Willie sold his soul to the devil in exchange for a win in SB III. In return, the Jets will flounder in mediocrity until Joe passes on.

However, this is not something that I think is brought up every year like the Cubs ....
I have heard something like this before, but it's not to the extent of some other superstitious teams.

You DO understand that Joe Willie has NOTHING to do with any of the teams that have not won since then .....

Actually, when the playoffs started and Rex Ryan was annoying everybody by saying he thinks the Jets should be favored, Joe Willie came out and said there is no way the Jets should be favored. After the magic carpet ride the team went on, I don't think Joe Willie will be commenting anymore. ;)

JaMarcus missed the beginning of offseason voluntary workouts because he was closing on a house in Alabama.

The Raiders also had this to say:

"You'll be surprised when you see him," Brown told Raiders play-by-play announcer Greg Papa, via Jerry McDonald of InsideBayArea.com. "It's quite a bit of weight that he's lost. . . . I don't want to pin it down and say how much he lost but it will be a significant difference when you see him compared to last year.

"The most important thing is he's getting in shape. Not only losing weight, but getting in shape. He's watching his diet, he has special meals brought in that he's eating, and we have one of the Raiders, a former player there with him to monitor him and make sure things are going fine. The weight thing, he'll get it down. He'll get it down."

This will keep Raider fans going for a little while...;)

BOTH forms of info will keep Raider fans going. The HATERS will bitch about him closing on house when he should be in "voluntary" camp. And then those that look at things half full, will see that it has started taking things a little more seriously by trying to get into shape, eat better and lose weight.

But the haters will definately point out the worst part of the post the most.

Yeah, this is from a Raider fan on another forum, sums up my thoughts about the matter nicely:

Willie Brown is claiming Russell lost significant weight and we'll be shocked when we see him. ****ing christ, it's like watching an alcoholic explain that he's sober now so obviously he's never going to drink again. We are so ****ed.

I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with the transparency the Browns are trying to convey in Cleveland, they seem to be a bit too chatty about their draft possibilities, and that generally means they are looking to do something different and/or trying to build value for their pick to get suitors to trade with them.

I also think that after the Chiefs picked up 2 FA OTs, they're a lot closer to picking Berry at #5 and with 3 picks total in the first 51, going WR and LB or maybe CB with the other two.

Since they're not doing it this year my guess is they're going to have a regimented program for him to follow, and failure to do so will result in him being suspended and stuff so they can recoup money. Otherwise this is the year to make a move, there would be no cap implications.

Who knows, they could shock everyone and take Clausen or another QB if he's available. Florida's CB Haden just ran a 4.44 at his pro day though, so he's probably on their radar.
