Browns Terminate Contract of Derek Anderson

It was expected. Now it's official...

“I want to thank Derek for everything that he gave to the Cleveland Browns organization over the last five years,” said Browns Head Coach Eric Mangini. “He did everything we asked of him and it was a pleasure to coach such a competitive person. I want to wish him all the best in the future.”

Now will they avoid a QB competition and name a starting QB? If they don't soon, then I think they're in the market to still pick one up, or draft one, and are waiting for after what they want is no longer available for that announcement.

I really, really, really, really hope so. Quinn....Wallace....I don;t care at this point. Just no more QB controversys.

I'm disappointed we didn't land David Carr. I think he could be a decent QB when playing behind a good offensive line.

Yes, Holmgren said he doesn't like QB competitions, so there will be a clear cut #1. I don't expect them to name one until after the draft or until preseason camp approaches though, so they don't tip their cap in the draft and/or more offseason acquisitions.

HD, at least you can always savor the memories of 2007.

:confused: When I think back to 2007, there's nothing to savor. I remember DA throwing 4 picks in week 16 when we could have clinched a playoff berth and I remember Indy resting all of their starters in week 17 allowing Tennessee to get in the playoffs over the Browns.

Love Troy Smith as a person. Loved him as a Buckeye. Love that he's from my hometown of Cleveland. With that said, he's been an absolute flop on the pro-level. If he didn't go to OSU, no one in Ohio would care to have him on the Browns.

Actually your SOOOOO wrong about this.

Troy Smith has NEVER been given a chance to grow into a QB at the NFL level like other QB's have.
He was scheduled to be the Ravens starting QB the year Flacco came into the league.

Had he not gotten sick he may be the Ravens Starting QB right now.

He's only played 14 games in 3 years and only one year was he given any chance to do anything and was only in 4 games that year ('07), probably due to injury.

"The fans are ruthless and don't deserve a winner," Anderson said. "I will never forget getting cheered when I was injured. I know at times I wasn't great. I hope and pray I'm playing when my team comes to town and [we] roll them."

Dang!

Uh oh. Sounds like sour grapes from DA. What a poor sport! DA has just become public enemy #1 in Cleveland. Them sound like fightin' words!!!!

The reality is this. Derek Anderson broke the fan's hearts in 2007. It was a roller coaster of a season, but as Sky mentioned we were in the driver's seat to make the playoffs heading into Week 16 and he single handily lost us the game. The two following years he was absolutely horrible.

I'm sorry if your feelings are hurt DA, but this is the big leagues you cry baby. Get over yourself. The fans of this city will never accept a loser such as yourself!

LOL! Good luck with that, DA.

Those comments by DA lambasting the entire fanbase were very unproffesional and will show his future employer just how thin-skinned he is and how well he really handles adversity. What an idiot.

PS. Is it too much to ask for DA to ultimately end up on the Steelers? :)
