Time of possession is a pretty decent stat as well. That said if ST or turnovers lead to opponent points it can be a misleading stat. One team could have the ball for 40 mins and still lose the game.:D

That's all cool stuff but, again what good is converting a first down on 3rd down if they don't score?I agree that it is a very key component to increasing a teams odds of scoring but,it doesn't always = points on the board. So to me the most important statistic is points scored.

I agree that points scored (and points against) is what ultimitely decides wins and losses, but what I'm saying is when you get those first downs is gonna go a long way in deciding a game. The Patriots are the perfect example. They looked like world beaters when they became the first team in NFL history to have three straight 30+ first down games, but then (like they so often have over the last 4 years) couldn't buy a first down(s) to close out the game in Seattle.

Time of Possession, or keeping the ball away from the other team's offense...

I agree, and that's why it's so important to move the chains when you have a one score lead in the fourth quarter. IMO, that's the NFL equivalent to having a Mariano Rivera.

Very true.I can use your example with the Eagles defense.Their 3rd down percentages against opposing offenses is terrible. One of the factors that lead to Castillo being fired.Poor guy did an interview with one of the local philly channels and was in tears. He had been with the Eagle staff for 17+ years.Great guy no doubt, just a bad decision to try to move to the other side of the fence with little to no experience.I'm sure he'll land on his feet next season though.Great offensive line coach.

With the AFC up for grabs, everybody pretty much all bundles up record wise (except for a few) the Steelers play tonight AGAIN without thier top 2 Running Backs and thier top defender Palamalo as well as thier top O linemen Pouncey....

Sad to see a conference up for grabs like this and not being healthy enough to grab it.

This season is going downhill for them while that are only 6 games in, we haven't seen them healthy yet .... wonder if they ever will be.

Okay, the Jets just scored to close it to 23-20 with 5 minutes left. THIS is the time for the Pats offense to sack up!!

Would like to know why did Sanchez take a sack toward the end of regulation? Just throw it away. Your trying to get in FG range.

Giants won. I'll tell you RGIII played good as well as Eli. How about the ending? Who else, Victor Cruz.

The end of the Bucs game. Was it a touchdown or not? I thought you were allowed to come back in bounds if you were pushed out of bounds.

Bills lose a heartbreaker, what else is new? Couldnt the Bills hold them?

good. pats win. Now the fins need to take down the jets next week :D

I see the raiders are back in the game.

Despite shooting ourselves in the foot countless times, the much maligned Raiders defense came up HUGE in the 2nd half holding the Jags to 60 total yards in the 2nd half.

Whew! Needed that win!
