I believe you are correct.

Similar reason that the Broncos-Cards game doesn't start until 9 PM local time tomorrow night.

The Repubs convention.

As much as we all may not like it...the NFL does not want to compete against politics when it comes to TV ratings.

I hate it as much as the next fan BUT I cannot blame them.

And the sheer irony of the whole thing of avoiding conflict with the start of the GOP convention on a Monday being the reason to have these games on Wednesday was made moot by Tropical Storm/Hurricane Isaac causing the GOP canceling Monday night anyway.

I have not seen enough of the Redskins games to form my own opinion but I am sure there would have been a lot more media "whispering" that RG3 was not playing well if he really had been out played by Cousins.

Griffin hasn't played badly, but Cousins has clearly been the better, more seasoned, preseason QB. However, it's difficult to evaluate their performances head-to-head since Cousins is usually playing with and against 2nd and 3rd stringers on both sides of the football...and preseason strimmage play will not answer many questions. Regardless, after selling the farm to acquire Griffin, the Redskins are committed to giving him the next two years to take the snaps. But my money is on Cousins being an impact players either for or against the Redskins. It's too bad the NFL doesn't have a farm system because Cousins can develop into an excellent quarterback if he takes snaps on Sundays.

Finally, Griffin has achieved Tebow-like status in the DC area and he is going to get a free-pass from the media for this season and perhaps even next year. We shall see...when the real games start next week.

They are gonna let RG3 play to his strengths and try to avoid his weaknesses as much as possible. He is more of a traditional passer the Vick, but a much bigger body and just as fast. Cousins will be traded/the # 3 QB because traditionally, teams want a veteran as a backup/#2 QB and all I have read states that will be the order.

The NFL and NBC absolutely did a favor for Obama and the DNC, NBC would of crushed convention ratings on the other networks.

Let me add this the NFL will not doing anything to upset either political party, they need them both for Stadium construction and other stuff.

Didnt baseball have a problem with the RNC and DNC in 2000? NBC had the A's/Yankees and one of the conventions was on at the same time? I dont know if the NFL had another option. They could've started the game early and lead right in to the DNC coverage. I dont know if that would even work but I dont have problem having the game on a Wednesday.

They could have opened the season on a Sunday, WHAT A CONCEPT !

Aren't there College Football games on next Thursday ?

Lions beating up on the Bills 28-7 end of the 1st quarter.
Starters offensively played the 1st series.

Lions beat the Bills 38-32. Yes, the Bills made a big comeback, but the Lions held firm. Although to me, it didn't look like anybody was taking the game seriously anyway. Can't wait for the regular season to start though! I think it'll be another great season for the Lions and that they'll make the playoffs again.

I think eventually, we'll have NFL games on everyday of the week except Saturdays because of college football. I could see TBS/TNT offer Tuesday Night games; If Fox converts Speed channel to a Fox Sports Network, they could offer games on Weds or Friday night, and ABC could have a Friday Night Football package (although as long as ABC remains a sports slave to ESPN, that would highly be unlikely.;))

I PRAY that doesn't happen ...

First off, Friday nights should NEVER have Pro or College games ... It's for High School.
I know some colleges are doing it and hate it.

2nd, If the NFL takes up anymore days of the week it will ruin thier schedule and risk becoming irrelevant, much like MLB baseball is, notice most people don't watch MLB games unless thier team is playing.

I agree with you on the first point. The 2nd point, I'm not so sure considering that the NFL is now a lot more popular than MLB. Why? My guess is because they don't have as many games as MLB does. In my opinion, I think MLB has too many games every season which is why most people don't really pay much attention to it until around the last few weeks of the season in to the playoffs. With the NFL, the season is only 17 weeks long, so every game counts and more people will naturally pay attention to it, no matter what night of the week it's on, especially if a certain team is about to make the playoffs. So with that said, I think the risk of becoming irrelevant would be pretty low if the NFL broadcasts on every or almost everyday of the week.

Call me naive and I probably am but I never understood the whole "Friday night is for high school football." I mean if the Giants vs. Cowboys, what would that have to do with a high school game going on in Minnesota? or California? I firmly believe if you have a friend or son playing high school football and for some reason you rather watch the Giants game, I think your priorities are out of whack. People will go to high school games no matter what. It sometimes depends on where you live. For ex. a state like Texas loves high school football. For some, it could be the be all, end all of there week, yet a state like Connecticut where I live, I dont think high school football is must see. Maybe, certain parts of Connecticut but not as big as maybe Texas.

HOORAY!!! Today is the last Sunday without NFL Football!! There will football action for the following 22 Sundays (excluding the dark week in between Championship Sunday and the Super Bowl). :):):)
