NFL 2009-10 Season

Cassel is out 2-4 weeks with a sprained MCL.

That sucks!! :(

Gaffney has broken his thumb.

That sucks too. I thought Jabar was undervalued here in NE. I like him better than the "upgrade", Joey Galloway.

No matter what our opinions on how good/bad Oakland, KC and Denver are, I think we can all agree on one thing: the Chargers are a HUGE favorite to win this division entering the season.

As for preseason stuff... yeah it only counts for so much, but when your sole highlight in the first half is a 12 yard competion (the first play) and your offense cant score until its your 2nd stringers vs their 3rd+, there's no denying there's some panicing going on in Oakland. They sure were treating it like a real game the way they abandoned the run, with McFadden and Bush combining for 1 yard on 4 carries (the entire game). At the half Brunell's 3 completions against the Raiders 1st team defense resulted in more yardage than the Raiders first team offense the entire first half.

Of course im sure every time they got burned or weren't able to wrap up a tackle they'd think 'its just preseason'. I don't see how that makes it so easy to dismiss such a horrible performance (not just as a team, but individually... penalties... mistakes... etc). Can only imagine what would have happened if the Saints had their top 2 rushers available in Bush and Pierce.

I haven't been able to watch a ton of preseason this year, but if anything's made me hopeful about the Chiefs' chances, watching that game was it - playing against the Raiders week two will probably give us a good idea of who will be battling Denver for the celler in the AFC west. The week after Baltimore trashes Kansas City, Oakland should be a nice rebound game (and probably the debut of Cassel in the regular season).

I on the contrary, I have not made an issue of the bad play NOR the good play of the preseason because it means NOTHING in the grand scheme of things as long teams do not come out with major injuries. The Raiders still have 2 weeks left in the preseason to correct some wrongs and improve some rights. Last year, the Raiders looked as dreadful against Denver on opening night.... And rebounded the rest of the season on ended in a positive note.

I am not stupid not to think that alot of this Raider negative talk also has to do with me and many that dislike me or my opinions, that when anything bad that happens to my favorite teams....EVERYONE is dying to say something negative. LOL!!

....I love it...bring it on!

...when my teams get the asses handed to them....guess what, I am right her....I don't run away not hide from my opinions.:rant::rant:;););)

Back to the AFC WEST, the best team will be San Diego....and a bunch of also rans. The teams moving up are the Chiefs and the Raiders....the team seemingly heading in the wrong direction is Denver. Plain and simple.

I see they made a rule change that makes it so a Defensive player cannot tackle a QB if he has to land on top of him.
He's suppose to stop the play and look the situation over and decide of a different way to tackle him so that he doesn't land on him.

This is turning into the NFL CRYBABY league.

If Cassel's out 2-4 weeks, that is not a good omen for week 1.

With either Thigpen/Croyle/Huard against the Ravens in Baltimore- against that defense, that does not bode well.

I think they will go 2-2 to start the season....winning against FSU and winning against either at WEAKER Va Tech(with the loss of the top offensive player) on the road and/or Georgia Tech. As easily as they can go 1-3, they are good enough to go 3-1.

As far as the Raiders go, since you are putting such a huge claim on PRESEASON GAMES, I guess the Dallas Cowboys have NO CHANCE of making the playoffs because the Raiders put an ass whipping on them....

...IF you go by YOUR logic of the importance of winning and/or losing preseason games...
We'll see about Miami. I heard they had 2 backup QB's just transfer out. This after Robert Marve transferred out after last season. So the Canes are dangerously thin now.

As for the Raiders, their backups put an ass whipping on the Cowboys backups. Romo and company didn't have too much trouble when they were out there. The Saints, OTOH, did that with their starters. The only ass whipping the Raiders have handed out was Tom Cable beating up his assistants. :D

Unfortunately, they only have 1 more week, with week 3 aka 'the week that most resembles a regular game' behind them. Will be interesting if Cable takes that same approach to the next game given this weeks performance.

They've named Thigpen starter for the first week, which to me is strange since it's Croyle who's led some headlines as looking so good in camp that he's looked better than even Cassel in Haley's system. Thigpen is a Michael Vick... it's not proven if he can operate a normal offense, is more of a gadget/spread offense guy and the offensive line has not really been there to provide him the protection to learn (for more than a season). That being said, he's the QB that led the Chiefs to 2-14, mostly because of our defense not being able to keep games under control and losing them by 7 or less 7 times last year (with 2 other losses by just 10) in a division with that had dueling 8-8 teams decide the winner.

Also Huard is 49er, we didnt renew his contract, we've got 4 QBs still though, as we picked up Cassel's old backup, Matt Gutierrez.

Edit: reportedly Chiefs have lost WR Darling for the year to a torn ACL, or damaged enough that he'll need surgery/rehab. He started 9 games last year, but appeared in all 16.

They had two BACKUP QB that did not want to compete. PERIOD. They wanted the position handed to them and at a school that has a tradition of very good to great QB...that ain't gonna happen. Same thing with Marve, he did not wanna compete with the Jacory for the #1 job. Just because you were great in high school, does it mean you are great in college...ESPECIALLY at the QB position. The U is thin at QB, former RB Lorenzo Highsmiths' kid is now the #2 guy, so yes, they need to keep Jacory healthy.

As for the Raiders/Cowboys game, when BOTH starting teams where on the field, BEFORE they went to benches....Raiders led 10-7 and also moved the ball quite easily. But again, preseason means nothing but to get repetition, gets the players in sync and come out relatively with no serious injuries.

THIS is why I hate preseason. The colleges do not have them...and I personally that you do not need preseason games to determine who should or should not be cut. I hate the ALL the Raiders AFC WEST opponents, but it sucks to seem them starting the season with their best players injured to start the season.

Chan Gailey being relieved of his duties today as offensive coordinator, Haley is going to run the offense. Not clear if Gailey is staying with the team in some other capacity or if the OC position is going to be filled.

Gailey was a holdover from the Herm era.

What the hell is going on that the offensive coordinator gets fire just days before the season starts?

Browns have cut OL Tucker and CB Hood... Lawyer Milloy passed his phyiscal with the Lions but they couldn't agree to a contract so he's walked away from the table there.

As teams trim down, hard to really keep up with anything...

NFL Transactions Report

HUH!?

Just a few years ago, Tuck was our best Offensive Lineman, and a Cleveland product for many, many years! Sad to see him go! Not sure why he wasn't given more time. He is just coming back from an injury and you can never have enough Offensive lineman...

As for Rod Hood, I don't understand that move either. Hood was supposed to upgrade the depth at the already thin secondary.

I hope Mangini knows what he's doing.

Zack Thomas also retiring, was a vet leadership signing for the Chiefs at MLB and I am pretty sure he never even took the field, recovering from an unspecified injury. Likely would have not made the final final roster.

Haley wouldn't comment on Cassel, but Chiefs fans are exhaling because it's leaked that Cassel is expected to be able to start week 1 at Baltimore.

Let me repeat. at Baltimore.

So if he makes it through the game, hopefully he's still be in one piece to enjoy a nice bite of Raiders pie at Arrowhead the following week :D

This is a VERY strange move. Just days before the start of the season?! The more things change, the more they stay the same in KC I guess. That division is such a mess.
