NFL 2009-10 Season

Tom Brady Expect to Start Week 1; Pats Cut O'Connell

Brady took a crushing hit from Washington Redskins defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth and left the game at Washington. Patriots coach Bill Belichick said over the weekend that Brady had a sore shoulder, but was removed from the game so the Patriots could evaluate their backup quarterbacks.

"I have bumps and bruises," Brady said in his weekly appearance on Boston radio station WEEI. "It's a physical game. Like I said, I fell a little bit awkwardly, but I'm expecting to be out there and I'm expecting to play this week, if Coach let's me. We'll just see how the week goes."

Quarterback Kevin O'Connell, projected to be Brady's backup, was cut Monday.

The Patriots could seek a more experienced quarterback before the season in case Brady is sidelined at any point.

Browns put Tucker on IR; Don't cut him

Browns have cut OL Tucker and CB Hood... Lawyer Milloy passed his phyiscal with the Lions but they couldn't agree to a contract so he's walked away from the table there.

As teams trim down, hard to really keep up with anything...

NFL Transactions Report

HUH!?

Just a few years ago, Tuck was our best Offensive Lineman, and a Cleveland product for many, many years! Sad to see him go! Not sure why he wasn't given more time. He is just coming back from an injury and you can never have enough Offensive lineman...

As for Rod Hood, I don't understand that move either. Hood was supposed to upgrade the depth at the already thin secondary.

I hope Mangini knows what he's doing.

Bzzzz. Wrong.

Louis Leonard any good? Browns traded him to the Panthers for an undisclosed pick.

Another testament to the no BS regime. Supposedly Leonard acted up in practice the other day.

Plus, it appeared Leonard wasn't good enough to hang around with our defensive line, so he couldn't be that good. The Panthers on the other hands are desperate. Leonard was an undrafted FA in 2007. I'm just satisfied we were able to turn that into a draft pick. Mangini loves stockpiling draft picks!

This is a VERY strange move. Just days before the start of the season?! The more things change, the more they stay the same in KC I guess. That division is such a mess.
Who'd have ever thought that you'd say that Norv Turner is the most competent coach in the division? If the Chargers don't win at least 12 games this season they just weren't trying.

Favre's Cheap Block

For those of you who didn't see Favre's crackback block, injuring a Texan last night....

How competent can he be??!!! He has THE MOST talent in the division and all he can must is 8 wins and BARELY win the AFC West??!! EVERYONE knows they are the best talented team in that division. The ONLY reason he has not gotten fired is because they are so good they can win the division WITHOUT HIM. IF they did not make the playoffs last year...his ass would have been on the street. IF they don't do it this year, he WILL be on the street. Funny thing is, this year, they are more vunerable than years before because they have some questions on defense and Tomlinson is older and the wear and tear is starting to show.

I agree, looking more than listening (since the announcers went OMG WTF KNEE KILLER ALERT) he really went into the midsection/hip area of the guy... it was a pretty rough block though, waited to get out of the guy's field of vision and then came up to block him.

Even if he went to shove him, he'd probably have messed that up and it'd have been a block in the back or something, followed by a leg whip when he fell on his ass.

Calm down. I just said that Turner is the most competent in the division, which is pretty funny IMO.

Asomugha is out 2 weeks with a chipped bone in his wrist - [ame="http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp09/news/story?id=4437027"]Nnamdi Asomugha, of Oakland Raiders, likely to play in opener - ESPN[/ame]

Missing the time now will not be the issue. Just how debilitating the injury is will be a major concern throughout the season, however.

Asomugha is the top bump-and-run cornerback in the league. If his wrist is bothering him, it's going to be more challenging for Asomugha to grab wide receivers at the line of scrimmage.

Asomugha is the least of the Raiders' concerns after their dreary weekend against the Saints -- just the latest one.

CB Tye Hill has been traded from St Louis to the Falcons for an undisclosed pick.

Chiefs released WR Amani Toomer, DT Alfonso Boone and put 3rd string RB Kolby Smith on the PUP list. WR Davard Darling has been put on IR, believed to have a torn ACL but that's never been confirmed.

I think the rest of it is much worse. If this lingers, it could be a problem with his playstyle all season. Just depends on what consists of a 'chip' in his wrist and if it's something that can heal and not be a problem.
