NFL 2009-10 Season

Cassel has signed a long term deal with the Chiefs, details not available yet.

...and somewhere, a Denver fan is crying. There was talk that the Chiefs may just pay Cassel his franchise player money and let him go and draft a QB, allowing McDaniels to get the player that resulted in him pretty much dismantling most of what would make a coach want to come to Denver (a franchise QB and a team not needing much more to rule a weak division = free shots at the playoffs for the next several years).

But that's OK, they have... Orton.

This is still a football thread right?

Between all the MLB threads that pop up when there's LESS baseball on, and the off topic stuff that pops up from time to time, these boards get frustrating to browse.

Oh come on. July is the slowest months in sports. We all get bored from time to time. No harm in a little off-topic banter to lighten the moods. :)

Cassel and the Chiefs worked out a six-year deal that will pay him in excess of $10 million a season, according to a source. The contract will keep Cassel with the Chiefs until 2014.

The deal is for $63 million, with $28 million guaranteed, according to a source. He's going to make $40.5 million in the first three years of his contract.

He now makes more than Tom Brady.

That is just RIDICULOUS!

Should resort to a slotting system for the top x picks, a certain contract length (2-3 years) and then open season on big deals once ability is proven. One analysis i read about slotting in general is it really only works for the top 10 or 20 picks, after that they do start to normalize a little bit, and in the 2nd round you can already start seeing league minimum salaries or something. I might not be saying it quite right, but I think you get my point.

True.

The NFL pay system is very screwed up.

When someone who has never played a game makes more than a superstar that is in his fifth season it is very screwed up. They need to stop paying rookies as much money as they do.

I agree, but do it in a thread I like to ignore, like the OH MY GOD GUYS, BATTING PRACTICE IS ON MLB, GO GO GO !! thread.

we already have a moderator in the sports forum. everyone is free to post what they want within the rules :)
