NFL 2009-10 Season

Garcia is only on the roster until McNabb is healthy, Vick isn't ready to take the team over. Kolb has played very well.

Garcia is the new Jeff George and when push comes to shove, yeah he'd have been a good option for Oakland to bench JaMarcus for, he'd be making much better decisions/throws given the time that Russel has been getting in the pocket.

He should have stayed....he would have been a big fish in a small pond. Now he is a small fish in a big pond.

And yet he's probably a lot better off given the playcalling and how the Raiders are playing (your classy 3-time super bowl winner called on a personal foul for... pulling hair!?).

I'm not sure who your referring to, BUT, in previous years, you had hair hanging out of your helmet, it was fair game to pull it to bring you down ....

Has that since changed ?

Final Thoughts on the Sunday NFL Action:

1. I might be totally wrong about the Bengals and Carson Palmer.

2. I might be totally right about the Cardinals and Kurt Warner.

3. Were just 3 weeks into the season and already a huge list of key players are hurt, not good.

4. The Oregon Ducks and Seattle Seahawks need to burn their new uni's, at least the Huskies...and for one weekend the Ducks...went retro.

5. Finally, for the now 1-2 Raiders here's their schedule until the bye week; @HOU, @NYG, vs. PHI, vs. NYJ, @SD...they could easily be 1-7. The more things change, the more they stay the same. :D

They're 3-0 after playing the Bengals, Browns, and Oakland. 3 teams in the bottom 5-10 of the league.

They now have to play Dallas, NE, SD, Baltimore, Pittsburgh before their next game against an opponent of similar quality to their first three game.... Washington.

They could pretty easily be 4-5 at that point with the Giants and Eagles still left waiting for them, and a couple of divisional matchups. Of the teams with a winning record they're probably the worst by far.

Hey, the Bengals just beat the defending Super Bowl champs, they are not in the bottom now.

A Special Comment: The State of the Cleveland Browns

Woe and 3 to start the season. :(

In 1995 our team was taken from us. Out of greed, our then owner moved the team to the city of Baltimore. In 1999, a substitute product was created in Cleveland. We even got to keep our team colors. That's where the similarities and differences between the old and new Browns end.

I don't even recognize the product on the field now. These are not the Browns I grew up with. And they certainly aren't the Browns that my father and grandfather knew either. The Orange and Brown used to be a proud franchise. A team who won 11 League Championships. An organization claiming some of the greatest to ever play the game in Jim Brown and Otto Graham. A team coached by the greatest the game has ever known in Paul Brown. Our old field of play (Municipal Stadium) was a place opposing teams absolutely dreaded playing. We were the home of the "Kardiac Kids." They played in a football city where fans had little else to root for and backed them 1,000%. This was a team with the greatest fans in the world. Google "Browns Backers". Our legion of fans runs across the nation. We're as die-hard as they come. Needless to say, that franchise would be embarrassed with the product on display now.

Since 1999, we've gone through 5 coaches, multiple GM's and THIRTEEN QB's. The only continuity this team has seen since '99 is owner Randy Lerner who continues to pull all of the wrong levers.

Sunday's loss, at the hands of our former club was the stake driven further into the hearts of woeful Browns fans everywhere. The reclamation project in Cleveland is apparently much greater than all of the new decision makers and coaches could've ever imagined. As Browns fans, we just want to see our old team back. We're sick of excuses. We're tire of the constant turnstile at QB and head coach. We just want to compete. We want to beat our rivals. Is that really too much to ask for?

I'm not sure what the solution is, but I will leave you with this old saying....

"The Fish rots from the head down." Ie. everything starts at the top. It's about time team owner Randy Lerner accepts responsibility and sells the team to a more competent football man. Him and his family are the one constant during the new Browns era. He clearly doesn't get it and continues to make the wrong decisions. Sell the team Randy. It's the least you can do for a fanbase so desperate for their old team back. Maybe, just maybe a more capable owner can return us to the days of old we used to be proud of. But until then, I just can't ever see winning under your rule. :(

The 2009 Browns are the worst football team I've ever seen. It's sad. If the rumors are true that the players have already quit on Mangini.....oh boy.

Do you or HD think that Mangini and Kokinis(sp?) will make it through the season? You guys must be livid, I know that some of you had to put a positive spin on the Mangini hire, but you had to be thinking that it was a mistake from the get go. Than to see them get fleeced by the Jets in the draft and how good Sanchez is right now, it has got to be restless in Cleveland.

I thought the Mangini hire was a mistake from the get go...I never tried to spin it. I'd be shocked if either were fired during the season because (1) that just doesn't happen to coaches in their first year, and (2) Lerner isn't really involved.

On draft day, I wasn't too upset with all the trading down....In hindsight, I really wish Sanchez was on our team (although he wouldn't have the numbers he does today because of the Browns atrocious supporting cast).

I do think they'll last the season. It doesn't make any sense to fire them now. Plus, our owner isn't as hands on as Dan Snyder is in Washington. Typically coaches get 3 years here. Then the recycle, rehash, rebuild starts again. I think the problem is deeper than the head coach though. We need some sort of consistency. When a new coach comes in, he gets rid of the previous talent and draft selections. Players never have a chance to develop here. This is also the excuse for not being able to compete right away. Fans don't like to hear that and end up running the coaches/QB's out of town. Then it starts all over again. I'm so sick of this!

I wasn't high on Sanchez. (I wanted Rey Maualuga) I do agree with you that he wouldn't be the same QB with the Browns as he is on the Jets though. You have to surround a young QB with talent in order to succeed in this league. Right now, DA and Quinn are only as good as their surrounding cast makes them look. Besides Braylon, there is NO other talent on offense. That's because Mangini's first order of business was to trade our best weapon in Kellen Winslow.

Bottom line is this: QB's and Coaches receive too much praise when teams win and too much criticism when they lose. In the 2009 version of the Browns, the problem runs much deeper. For one, I think this team lacks talent.

No doubt about it. I honestly believe it may be the least talented team since our return to the league - - - and that's saying a lot.

I just wish they'd throw Robiskie, Massaquoi, Maiava, and Veikune into the fire....on the job training is a good thing when the team is going nowhere.

You're right about Winslow......I'm sure Quinn would love to have him.

In fairness to the fans, our coaches and QBs have been horrible since coming back into the league. I liked Phil Savage and I like DA (despite his performance yesterday). I do hope, however, that Quinn starts for the rest of the year....trial by fire.
