Browns TE Kellen Winslow on his suspension

By the Associated Press
Tuesday, October 21, 2008

CLEVELAND — Cleveland Browns tight end Kellen Winslow released a statement Tuesday night after being suspended for one game without pay for conduct detrimental to the club:

"First I would like to say that I am disappointed that my organization felt the need to suspend me for speaking out regarding my medical situation with staph. I take responsibility for the fact that there might have been a more constructive way to release this, but when I tried to do so I was discouraged from making the issue public. Regardless of how this was released the information would still remain the same. I contracted staph, again.

"I spoke out on this because I felt it was the right thing to do and that is why I was so passionate about it. This has nothing to do with football and this has nothing to with my current contract situation. This is a health concern.

"Please understand I care deeply for my organization, my teammates, and the Browns fans. At no time was I ever trying to cause distress for the team or be a distraction but the fact remains there is a health issue that needs to be addressed further.

"I remain loyal to the Browns organization, my teammates, the fans and the city of Cleveland. I remain a hard worker on and off the field in support of my teammates and our goal to have a winning season. I hope to be a Brown for a very long time. I know that the organization and I can move forward and focus on having a successful season, which I believe everybody agrees upon."

And the plot thickens.......

Kellen Winslow appeals suspension.

According to AwfulAnnouncing, the Week 8 NFL map in my area gives me Chiefs/Jets instead of Chargers/Saints.

Awful Announcing: NFL Broadcast Maps And Announcing Schedule For Week Eight

Instead of Brees, Rivers and LT, I am stuck with Favre and the pathetic Chiefs!

(OTOH, I would love to see what Thomas Jones could do against a defense that allowed the Titans to run wild. Over/under: 200?)

Woah! So I do get both the Browns/Jags and the Stoolers/Giants at 4pm! Nice. Thanks for the link buddy.

I have NFL-ST so it doesn't matter to me, but I was surprised to see the Boston DMA getting the Giants-Steelers game. The Patriots are playing at home, and I've always thought when your local team was at home it made you ineligible for the doubleheader.

I thought for sure the Boston market was going to get Rams-Pats (obviously) at 1pm on FOX, and Browns-Jags at 4pm on CBS.

Boston is getting both those games plus Giants-Steelers (I verified this via my DirecTV program guide).

BTW Sabres, great find!! :)

Players like Winslow are the reason the Browns will not be successful like other organizations. Funny they hire a guy so they can emulate the Patriots, but yet they don't learn from them in player personnel. You think teams like the Steelers, Colts or Patriots would put up with someone like that? Of course not, that is why they win, team first, not me guys.

Hmmmmm.
That's Odd, I would consider Randy Moss to be one of the biggest Me Me guy's, I think he plays for the Patriots, when he wants to play, that is...

I noticed you left the Cowboys out of your list.

2001 they drafted Richard Seymour at pick 7, ESPN was stunned could not believe they passed on David Terrell. Seymour was on ESPN's board in the late teens. Seymour is a 4 time all-pro. Maybe you should know a teams history, before making a jackass out of yourself.
Some teams draft by what they NEED vs the best player on the board.

Please explain how Moss has been a me me guy in New England?

Dallas hasn't won a playoff game since 1996, why would I include tem with those other teams?

Just because he's in NE doesn't mean he's not a Me guy.
TO hasn't erupted in Dallas yet either , but we all know it could be around the next corner.

The Pats start losing, then we'll see the real Randy.

The scenario you described was a league rule until 2000. That year, they began to allow 3 games to be on in the home market (when the home team is playing at home) if the home team is on the doubleheader network and if their game beats the sellout deadline. The singleheader network, naturally, must show a game in the opposite time slot.

If the home team (playing at home) is on the singleheader network and/or if the game is blacked out, that market only gets 2 games.

There is a God! The Lions are blacked out this Sunday! First time they failed to sell out since moving to Ford Field in 2000(?). I hope it's a nice day outside, if it is, I'm going to take the little rugrats to the park.

Thanks Brain,

I don't how I missed that before.

I've had ST since '04, but still, one would think I would have caught on to that. :D

How many of you guys have those 'History of so-and-so NFL team" DVD's?

I watched the 'History of the Raiders' DVD, and what I saw would bring a tear to salsa's eye.

A DVD on the history od Cleveland Browns has just been released; I'm sure HD MM is salivating at that.

And if you're on a coffee break, you can catch "Greatest moments in Cardinals history". :D
