NFL 2008-09 Season

I heard Fassel is in the mix for possible raider coach next season. I can see that working ,seriously between him and Mr. Davis. Fassel isn't a bad coach. What do you think salsa? i think his coaching record is 58/53. I know it's not great but he did take the giants to a super bowl in 2001 and won coach of the year in 1997.

I heard the same thing....

Apparently, Fassel recently sent a handwritten letter to Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis, expressing his respect and admiration for Davis and his desire to coach the embattled franchise!

I know we're in a recession and all, but Fassel must be dying for work! ;)

"Daze Of Our Lions"

In this episode of "Daze of our Lions" -

Highlights-

#1 - Kevin Smith gets his first NFL 100 yd. game, rushing for 112 yds.

#2 - Jason Hansen kicks his 6th FG from over 50 yds. this season. This poor guy would have been a shoo-in for the HoF if he played somewhere, anywhere, else.

Lowlights -

#1 - The usual non-tackling. 264 yds. rushing foir the Panthers. Stewart and Williams both rushed for over 100 yds. apiece.

#2 - Two interceptions by the Panthers, exactly the same number of IC's that the Lions have made all season.

Quotes of the day-

"There's nobody else out there, there's nobody out there. You want to go out on the street and look for me? If you bring somebody back, I'll look at him. No, no. You go put on the strret and find one. So these are the men I have." - Rod Marinelli.

This is the closest he has come to admitting that the talent is the problem. This defense (or lack of it), is on you Rod, you hand -picked a lot of these guys.

Ryan Nece, on the the Lions tacklibg woes - "It's like a gunfighter, when a gunfighter goes in a gunfight, sometimes he gets shot. Sometimes when he gets shot, he dies. Unfortunately, we got shot today. It wasn't that we can't pull the trigger. It wasn't that we can't shoot the gun. They just unfortunately got us first."

No Ryan, it's just that when you pull the trigger, you discover nobody loaded the gun.

Strange numbers -

First Downs - Detroit 20, Carolina 16
Time of possession - Detroit 34:17 Carolina 25:43

This team keeps finding ways to lose games. This loss was by 9 pts. keeping in line with their 8.8 pt. differential on the road. They are at home for the next 3 games, which may mean I won't see them play again till December.

I'll give them credit, they are not quitting, and others would have a long time ago. 1-17 in their last 18 games. I knew they would lose this season, but this is beyond anything I thought was possible.

Between these guys and MICHIGAN it's been a big waste of a fine Autumn.

Is LA interested in a NFL franchise? Have I got a deal for you!

Lol! As always, good stuff Paul. :up :D

paul, i still thing the lions will pull off one win. i only see two more opportunities in their schedule. the next opponent tampa bay bucs or the saints later on. i think they have a shot this week against the bucs. i did not pick them  because i don't have the guts:D but i think they have a good chance this week being at home.

REY, look back a week to my "Daze of our Lions", and you'll find that we are losing bigger at home than on the road, it's not even close. Now add in the fact that we can't win on the road, (I think we have won 7 or 8 since the beginning of the Millen Error), so where is this win going to happen? The Boo-birds are killing (the few that actually attend a game anymore) this team at home.

No talent + no coaching = no hope!

He can forget that...the job belongs to the ULTIMATE a$$-kisser, Mr. Have-Another-Dounut-You-Fat-Bastard-Rob Ryan. Ryan's job to lose.

BUT....if Davis DOES give it to Fassel...maybe Ryan will quit and we will RID of him once and for all.

hhhmmm.....................:cool::eureka

i really don't wish this on anybody. we went through that here in miami last year and that one win almost felt like we one the big one. crazy

I like winning as much as the next guy, but we're talking about history here. I want them to lose for the same reason I wanted NE to run the table last year, I want to say I saw it happen. What's the point of 1-2 wins? Then we're just another bad team , but 0-16, that's something to talk about. That's as hard to do as going 16-0.

You are so right....

I would hope that some of that bull**** talk will end because ANYONE that knows a spec of football and has seen my Raiders play...they have not quit...!

Salsa, I've moved on.

The Raiders have been slowly improving since the Falcons game.

Now, it's the Rams who I think are quitters with no heart.

For all the Lions' and Raiders' woes, they are nowhere near as bad as the Rams, IMO.

Detroit shows heart and the Raiders fought hard yesterday.

OTOH, the Rams quit against the Jets last week and gave up 35 points in the first half against the 49ers. That's 75 points in the first half in back-to-back weeks!

HD MM puts more effort into his posts than the Rams have on the football field!

Nice tagline, Salsa. I thought you guys were going to win yesterday. You guys just needed one big play, somewhere. Same for the Lions.

IF Boob Ryan was not running the defense, we stop them on 4 and 5 with less than 2 minutes in the game. Actually, if someone else was running the defense, we don't even GET to the 4th and 5.

...but..."shoulda, coulda, woulda..."

Another case for the Cardinals being better than you think:

In 1988, my Bills clinched a division title on the Sunday before Thanksgiving.

The rest of that division (Jets, Pats, Dolphins, Colts) wasn't any good either, which is your rallying cry against the Cards. Besides, the Bills also had a great QB and a stud wideout (Kelly-Reed, Warner-Boldin-Fitzgerald), and that didn't stop Buffalo from embarking on a run of great, contending, competitive football.

Face facts, guys- the Cards are legit whether you like it or not. I am NOT saying they will win the Super Bowl or win the NFC title, but I have them winning their division and hosting a playoff game that they will win.

While 99% of 'The Sports Section' is already punching the Giants' tickets to Tampa, let me remind G-Men fans that they are nowhere close to being out of the woods just yet.

They go to Arizona next Sunday, and let me warn you- the last time the Giants played on the road against a potent pass-happy team (Cleveland), they lost.

Besides, if the freaking Browns can beat the almighty Giants, why not Arizona? Just ask HD MM. Remember, they did that with Derek Anderson(!!), and Kurt Warner is a better QB than Derek.

Oh, and one more thing- after what I saw today, if you were hooked to a lie detector and were asked if the Eagles or Redskins were REALLY better teams than Arizona, I'd like to see the scores on those tests.

If Philly can't beat the Bengals in Cincy, do you REALLY see them possibly winning a Wild-Card game in the desert? Think about that.

I, for one, am not ready ready to call them the NFC champ. On the other hand I thought they would be the first out of last seasons playoffs. It's possible we could see something like this again, this season. You get to the playoffs, and who knows? I won't have to worry about that anytime soon with my pathetic Lions.

While 99% of 'The Sports Section' is already punching the Giants' tickets to Tampa, let me remind G-Men fans that they are nowhere close to being out of the woods just yet.

But the thing is, I see NOTHING from these Giants that have made me believe they're a fraud. Besides their 1 hiccup against Cleveland, they look near invincible. I realize that since the playoffs are a single game elimination and not a series, anything can happen. But discrediting what they've done last year and what they may do this year is shear blasphemy.

Please tell me a team that has better running game, a better d-line, a better o-line and an effective passing game?

And last years 18-1 team verifies this statement. We remember that well, you betcha! It's not over until it's over!
