hi guys i am new here and could use some help. i just had dish installed and due to a tree being in the way the teck pointed the dish to the southwest to the old satellite.i cannot get my local channels in hd.from what i have been told if i pointed it to the southeast i would get local channels in hd off the newer satellite.i cut the tree down today and now have to find out what to do next.do i need to do anything to my dish receiver to point the dish to the southeast.is my receiver just setup to work in the southwest.i have a satellite finder.its the receiver thats got me worried.my zip is 72653

well, first, you need a different LNBF. The one on there now is a Western Arc, with 3 "eyes", the one you need is an Eastern Arc - with 2 "eyes" and the dish needs to be readjusted fort he Eastern Arc Sats (Skew, Elevation)

Technically, the WA lnb will work (not optimally) to receive EA sat signals. The spacing on WA is 110/119/129 - 9/10 degrees whereas the spacing on EA is 61.5/72.7 - 11.2 degrees. There is enough "slop" in the aperture of the lnb that being off by 2-3 degrees, you will still get some signal, but not the maximum signal and you may experience pixellation and drop outs especially under rainy conditions. This is not the best situation but if you can find the 61.5/72.7 sats with your 119/129 lnb's you can get reception until your 61.5/72.7 lnb's arrive.

I still favor the 3-eyed 1000.4 LNB just because I like more satellites than fewer, and the ability to add a wing dish if necessary. IIRC, the 2-eyed EA DPP LNB has no input.

I think what Bobby was telling you is that eastern arc has three satellites, 77 / 72. 7 / 61.5. Your locals are on both 61.5 and 77, so it doesn't matter if you had a 2 LNB or 3 LNB eastern arc dish. they both would work.

However, if switching to eastern arc, you would be better off with the 2 LNB eastern arc dish. The satellite spacing is wrong on your current 3 LNB western arc dish. It might work, but even if it did, you would not be getting strong signal strength, and you would be susceptible to rain fade, etc. (There is a different 3 LNB dish for eastern arc, but it is not used much anymore).

so my 3 eyes will work everyone agrees

Keep in mind you do not need to get all three satellites on the Eastern Arc as you do on the Western Arc. You don't need 77. In my experiences the Eastern Arc is a little more likely to lose signal during strong rain or approaching storm heads for that to last a little longer, so getting the best signal from the two satellites you need is helpful.

That's an LNB for a 1000.4 eastern arc dish. In order for you to use the pictured LNB you will need a 1000.4 dish.

You probably have a 1000.2 western arc dish now so you will need an eastern arc 1000.2 LNB. It gets 2 satellites which should get all of your channels.
