If they would have only taken the self imposed bowl ban last year like I said they should.

I doubt that would have been an option ...

Had they done that, then the AACN would have imposed a ban for this year as well ...

Remember, at the time this all came down it was still the BIGGEST thing going, the Miami thing was just getting started and the Penn State issues weren't even started to be dealt with.

Any rivalry game carries a little more weight out of region if one or both are in the mix.

Yup.

My point was next year when they are playing for a high ranking, (like most of the BIG rivalries) the game means more than, as a loss would send them tumbling down the polls.

Personally, I hope they learn the rest of the Offense over the off season (now till August) and the D continues to come around.

They are very good, but no where near where they will be in a year or two.

Sorry...but down here, very few, if anyone, will care. This state cares mostly for FSU, UF and The U...not necessarily in that order.

So if one of the 3 Florida teams are ranked in the top 5 and the Buckeyes are as well and playing thier rivalry and a Buckeye loss sends your team to the Championship, you don't care about the outcome of the OSU/Mich game ?

Give me a break.

I guess we will never know but I have a strong feeling that they would have allowed the self imposed one to stand by itself with just adding the scholarship reductions.

Nice win by the U to win ACC Costal division, despite the refs trying their best to give Duke the win.

This young team will get better and regardless what the NCAA spews out, they will be 1 year older.

We are not taking about the championship....the conversation was RIVALVRIES. Not championships.

So unless the scenario IS the championship and a loss by either team can help a Florida team, no one will care down here.

And people's opinions on what is a "great" rivalry. To fans outside of the rivals, it's not great, bad, or anything else, it's just another game to them. At certain times the "outcome" of the game may be of interest, sure. But that can happen for any game.

Not to argue with you, but I doubt it because this was the WORSE thing to ever happen according to the NCAA and media at the time.
Now we all know it wasn't nearly as bad as what has happened since.

This is what I was refering to, no it's not the Championship, but the rivalry directly effects the MNC game.

And in which case, any rivalry game would be more important outside its region.

If a team is in the mix for the championship, it's going to mean a little more. If both are it bumps it up another notch.

For the most part though, the rivalries are most important to their own fans. No matter who the teams are, by and large, fans outside the area do not care all that much. A least not much more than they would the typical game involving either one of the rivalry teams. To them it's another game.

The debate for me them becomes which are more intense inside their respective fan bases. There are a few that can argue to be that top rivalry based on that criteria. I think the iron bowl is at the top. Others will obviously plug in their own games.

If your logic was true then OSU would have received a multi year ban and not just a single year. Its still better to give up playing in a small bowl and have a hope that it will be taken as the punishment then playing and possibly giving up the chance at a national championship.

I agree ... I think they would have been given a Multi Year ban had they offered to give up last years game.

The aacn was so against what was happening that they would have given them multi had they offered last years .... remember they were discussing the Death Penalty at one point and Constitutional Control as well(or whatever you call it), and Tressel was given a suspension for 5 years that I had NEVER heard of being done anywhere else, also, Pryor ended up giving up 5 Pro games, something else that has never been done, that I'm aware of...

I don't think they would have. They were only going to get a single year ban. If they were going to get more they would have gotten it and they would have to sit out next year as well. With only having a single year ban that is pretty much all they were going to get. Again we will never know.

wow, this is pathetic. My Jackets aren't even bowl-eligible (thanks to UGa killing us again...), and somehow we get into the ACC championship game. The ACC should just let Clempson & FSU play in it, since the Coastal isn't worthy.
