NCAA Football 2009-10 Season

Again, I guess I will not understand it. I mean, I don't root for the Big East in basketball, I just think they are the best basketball conference. I STILL hate Georgetown, UCONN and 'Nova....LOL! Do I root for them when they play other non-conference teams....hell no! IF they beat a team from the ACC, Big Ten or Big 12...good for them. The conference gains nothing by it but bragging rights for FANS that get all into this.

...but maybe it's me.....

Football is different then basketball.. In football your team is rated higher/lower based on your conferences record. There is only what 12 or so games to judge you on. In basketball you get to prove it on the court whos better and your conference does not matter as much.

One mans opinion.......

The TOP of the Big Ten and the Top of the SEC ....

If you go past Fla and Ala. the rest are no better than any other team out there.
EVERY conference is this way, occasionally you have a year that it's a bit different, like the Big 12 last year had 3 very good teams.

Look at the Big East this year, they have a real team in the BSC, nice change of pace.

SEC is having a DOWN year, so don't give me the BIG TEN is down SH**.

The Big 10 has been down for many years now, had a few teams at the top to keep them afloat.
Is that really any different than any other conference ?

As for your NONE of the Big Ten should go to a BSC game quote?
Thats garbage and you know it.

If your in the Top 10 at the end of the year your going to a BSC game and then plenty of teams outside of the top ten also go ....
How many years now have we all sat here saying that the Big East should not have a automatic bid, they still go.

:up

As much as I love to bash OSU, they came through in the end and proved they could finnaly win when it counted. Now they get to goto the Rose bowl against a team I think they can acutally beat this year (either oregon or O-state)

I will flat-out admit this- with all due respect to McCoy and the Insider and jwfgeol and BigDawg- whom I have much respect for their football knowledge- I am growing weary of the SEC worship.

I will be rooting for Texas (or someone else if we have a reenactment of the 2003 Big 12 Title game) in the championship game, because I want to see someone else win it all for a change.

I can't stand the SEC, and I am getting more and more steamed with all the articles crowing about how good they are EVERY SINGLE WEEK.

Georgia isn't suddenly going to have that Kentucky loss magically erased just because they beat GTech. Impressive, but too little, too late. Maybe if they played that way against Tennessee, you could have been more of a factor this year.

There are articles about how good they are everyweek because every week they keep showing everyone why they are so good.

and No GA is not magically a great team. But by beating the #1/2 team in the ACC proves that even a not so great SEC team can beat the cream of another conference.

of course its a rivalry game and those can go either way.

Your more confident than I am at this point then.
O State I think we could beat for sure, Oregon should be a very good game. I would have liked to have USC again, but they went down hill.

I guess I will never understand love for a conference....
Part of it comes from history.
For instance, I grew up a Bulldog fan, and they were in the SEC for a long time. Therefore I've always liked the SEC over other teams. As for Ga Tech, they were an instate school, so I always rooted for them, except in the final game against UGA. I later went to Ga Tech, so I swapped my Tech/Dawg allegiances.

For Miami though, they were an independent for so long, and then only in the Big East out of convenience (for the Bowl Alliance that came around at the same time), and then the ACC for travel/money reasons. Therefore, I can understand why a Miami fan doesn't care for the ACC teams, there is no history there. My love of ACC teams is nothing compared to what my love for the SEC is, since I grew up a Bulldog fan.

The SEC has been pretty much the same for a long time, with the exception of Ga Tech leaving, and then Arkansas and USC joining, it's been the same conference since the beginning. Therefore long time fans of it's teams have a long time allegiance to the conference. They may hate individual teams of the conference, but still join ranks over "outsiders".

Especially since that Ga Tech team beat 2 SEC teams already this year.

The Tech/Ga game has a long history of things going either way.
If Nesbitt hadn't been injured, and then played at 100% when he came back in, things could have gone differently. But that is neither here nor there. It's a rivalry with a long history of upsets, same as most instate rivalries.

Granted they have a long history, the GT offense has NEVER been like this one.

I would guess that (haven't looked it up) the Dog's have a huge lead in this rivalry.

60-39-5
Mostly caused by the 70's, 80's, and 2000's when Tech pretty much sucked. Never really recovered since Bobby Dodd retired. It was actually pretty even before the 70's when they were both in the SEC.

I would look for GT to be tough for awhile , I like Paul Johnson and his offense he runs.
If he can work a solid passing game with it, they would be very tough.

Navy runs the same offense and have been tough this year as well.

What's been killing them, is that their defense is shaky at best. Ga Tech can score points, but so can the teams that play them. Same has been true for UGA as well. Both have effective offenses, but really questionable defenses.

I was just thinking about the D* on the GT side, they are stable, maybe, that is the area they need to work on to move up in the conference on a regular basis.

Your team always comes first, so whats next? Why not support your conference.

So let me get this straight....you wanna kill those teams ALL year...and then because YOUR team is either not play in a specific bowl...and someone from your conference is playing it...suddenly you want them to win...??!! LOL!! Ok.....you guys win, I don't and never will get it.:D

Yes I want them to win. It makes my teams win/loss to that same team a bigger/less big deal.

I want to beat them when we play them. Then I want them to win as it benefits us. OOC game wins always benefit us. So yes. Why pull against them then?

Marshall coach Mark Snyder has resigned. (Was probably asked to or he would be fired)

I'm not rooting for my conference rivals (Texas/Nebraska) to win any high profile bowl games. Makes recruiting against them that much harder.

Thank you! The voice of reason. This is just like Fantasy Football to me.... You pick a bunch of players as a GM and when a few of those players play against YOUR TEAM, you are want them to have huge games for your points....though those huge games could beat your team. Makes no sense....;)

Salsa, you're not the only confused one out there. I still struggle to understand the SEC band of brother love.

After rooting for tOSU every week, my 2nd favorite thing to do is root FOR whoever Michigan is playing! :D

I think it's hilarious!! I can CLEARLY understand fighting for where you think the conference is better than others...I TOTALLY comprehend the reasoning behind that discussion. But rooting for schools you wanna kill all season just because they live in your block??!! HELL NO!!

It's like the neighborhood bully going to fight another bully from another neighborhood. You gonna root for YOUR neighborhood bully just because he live in your 'hood?!

On the other hand, it has not seemed to hurt our recruiting at all. We lost to Florida last year, then Utah right after. I didnt see a drop in the class that came in at all. Hell, for that matter, have not for the past several years. If anything, being in the SEC, and having the conference teams consistantly win has helped some of the middle of the road teams recruit IMO.
