NCAA Football 2008-09 Season

In college football, when a team puts a lot of emotion into a game and loses, that can lead to a hangover.

Remember how Central Michigan came thisclose to beating Ball State?

Well, today, they lost to two-win Eastern Michigan 56-52!

I think the defenses were stuffed with tryptophan.

I don't hate the Buckeyes. As a matter of fact I've been complimentary of their program in the recent past. They are to be respected and admired for the status of their program. Quality school and Quality Program.

What I detest is the wing of Buckeye supporters here in this forum(not indicative of all Buckeye fans) that whine and constantly make excuses for their team's constant flameouts in Big situations.

As for bashing, my bashing has mostly been directed at the Big East Conference in Football and have been proven correct in the statment that they are by far the weakest BCS conference. I've even refrained from that mantra by and large as of late. I also bashed Texas Tech (mid season) and then admitted I was wrong about them as Sabres can attest.

As for whom brought this up, the OP made a statement about the three finalist(s) for the Doak Walker award. He commented, and then I commented about the three running backs and their perceived NFL potential.

Nowhere did I, nor anyone else insert Beanie Wells into the thread(no reason) to whatsoever). I commented that Moreno was the better NFL prospect of the 3 and then someone had the snarky line:

"Great! Moreno's better than the 2 other RB's but can't hold a candle to the all world Beanie Wells". (paraphrasing, but that was the sentiment)

No reason whatsoever to mention Wells in this thread, he wasn't a finalist nor did he deserve to be.

As for my team, Tennessee, I said 8-4 possibly 7-5 before the season started, they bombed, and the Coach has rightly taken the fall. Difference being ,no excuses for poor performance or complaints about the officiating or revisionist history from me as seems to be the case from a few(not all) here when the Buckeyes falter.

Actually, someone brought up that if they were all healthy. THEN ...
I added Wells to the list as he would SURELY be on the list.

Now if you want to tell me otherwise, that Beanie would not deserve to be on the list, then you know less about this than I originally thought ....

Ever notice that the Bucks DON'T get credit when they DO win, but constantly get slammed when they lose a game.

Buckeyes had one bad lose this year and dropped 10 spots for it and then went 7-1 and never moved up

Oklahoma has a much worse record in bowl games, but the world is lauding them, Oklahoma is what 1-4 in the last 5 bowls, but they get a pass when it comes to bowl games.

I'll say this and then let it drop for my part.

Ohio State is a top notch quality program.

They are rightly ranked (IMO) as the top ranked team with 2 losses especially from a mediocre Conference.

Beanie Wells is a fine RB but completely irrelevant to the conversation about the Doak Walker finalists.

If the Bowl matchup for the Buckeyes is Georgia, I may actually root for the squad from Columbus. I don't think they will win, but I seriously detest the Dawgs.

The Oklahoma/ Ohio State scenario you alluded to above is worthy of debate for this season IMO.

If Oklahoma played in the Big Ten and had 2 losses ,I believe they would be ranked about where OSU resides currently. No way to prove it though just conjecture on my part but I just don't see this vast conspiracy against OSU though except in a few of their fan's perception.

IMO, Georgia's a bit overrated.

Their defense has looked shaky at times, and in the two most important games of the season- against Florida and Alabama- they got outclassed.

LSU just LOST to freaking Arkansas.

Three things:

1. WHY in the world would Les Miles attempt a 62-yard Field Goal INTO THE WIND?

2. Maybe LSU's title last year was a fluke- remember, they got in because of Pittsburgh and Oklahoma!

3. McCoy's head will probably explode

The defending national champions may not have made a bowl game if they hadn't lucked out against Troy.

Incredibly, the College Football games on the day after Thanksgiving were MUCH better than the NFL games.

Consider:

Pitt/West Virginia- Great performances by McCoy and Pat White, big momentum shifts, and big plays

LSU/Arkansas- Game of momentum swings, and a lot of action. Gutsy drive by the Hogs on a 4th and 1 to go for the winning TD, though I'll never understand why LSU didn't just attempt a hail-mary.

Colorado/Nebraska- Another Big 12 shootout. High-scoring with big plays and a real dumb play (Nebraska tried the LSU fake field goal, but the Buffs turned it into a touchdown). The final score was 40-31, but it was closer. The Husker kicker booted a 57-yard field goal with less than 2 minutes left, and returned an INT for a winning touchdown.

For all the griping about whether the Lions should still be on Thanksgiving, let's keep Colorado/Nebraska on the day after Thanksgiving. That was much better than any of yesterday's NFL duds!

Since I brought up Beanie Wells, I can defend my statement.

First off, it was you who brought up a topic that wasn't relevent to the Doak Award. You said: "NFL Rep's will also tell you that Moreno is far better than any of the other RB's mentioned above".

Since you brought up the sub topic of Moreno being a good NFL ready RB, I simply added to that thought by mentioning that IMO, Beanie would be the more coveted back if he were to come out next year.

I made this statement by watching a good chunk of work from all of the Doak Award nominees and Beanie Wells work too. It's just my opinion and shouldn't be taken as biased because I consider the Buckeyes my favorite college football team.

Not sure what he was thinking there myself. :(

Don't get on my bad side now.

3. McCoy's head will probably explode
Way worse to lose that one to Arkansas last year. This year I sort of expected it (but you're right, my head exploded).

The defending national champions may not have made a bowl game if they hadn't lucked out against Troy.
Lucked out huh? Think Arkansas might have had a little luck tonight. These things balance out. Hello Shreveport. :)

I havent lauded them, as a matter of fact, I honestly think both of them were rated higher than they should have been the past few years when it comes to bowls. Is that true this year? Who knows, but if I had to pick between oklahoma and OSU at this point, I would pick Oklahoma. Most would. THATS why I think they should go to a better bowl THIS year than OSU

Don't get me wrong msmith,
I am not saying anything directly at you.

This year, YES, Oklahoma is much better than Ohio State ....
I just think that everyone holds the Bucks back because of previous years, and they should not have anything to do with one another.
I think the Bucks are about where they belong, for the most part.
They lost to Penn State in a very close game, could have went either way had Pryor went for the 1st down vs the TD and lost the ball, but thats over, can't do anything about that other than learn from it.
Had they won that game, everyone would be on the "NOT Ohio State again" bandwagon, they would be up in the top 5 - 6 anyways and at least in the BSC.

Oklahoma on the other hand, YES deserves to be up there too, but they have been blown out in 2 of the 5 bowl games and lost 4 of the 5, but no one is holding those games against them, like they are Ohio State.

Thats my only beef with it all.

If you look at some of the "lists" for the upcoming draft, you will find Wells at the top of most of them. It appears most of the nations "pundits" would agree with you, as do I.

Nice post Jimbo. Couldn't have said it better.

Yes but who did the bucks beat? vs who did OK beat? Also Bucks wound up losing another game. Which seems to me the pollsters had that right.

Virginia couldn't pull the upset, so the ACC Title game will be graced by the boring presence of Virginia Tech.

They are 109th out of 119 teams in offense- how they have a shot at a BCS is beyond me.

They are maybe the most boring team in the country.

Besides, Georgia Tech would have given BC/Florida State a stiffer test.

Beamer Ball survives with 2 big plays in the last 2 minutes and wins over UVA 17-14.

VT clinches ACC coastal div.

Looks like a monsoon in Tallahassee.

Oregon St RB Jaquizz Rodgers out vs. Oregon.

This is not what I wanted.

I don't want to see ANOTHER blah and boring Hokie team in the BCS.

Remember- the ACC has one BCS win ever.

Whether it's Florida State or B.C., I'm rooting for which of those team gets to Tampa next week.

KEEP THOSE BORING HOKIES OT OF THE BCS, PLEASE!
