NCAA / BCS Bowl Games 2011-2012

Of course even the Football Subdivision Champsionship playoff has its own biases and problems. Indeed, my Illinois State Redbirds pretty much got screwed out of a rightful place in the playoffs this year. And you have the same issues we will be arguing about in early March with the March Madness slate -- but its still a hell of a lot better than the system that exists now in the BCS.

Yes, like with march madness there are issues. But everyone controls their fate to get into the playoffs. All you have to do is win you Conference, and you're automatically in. Therefore everyone has equal access.

You are right about that. The only issues are about the non-conference winner spots. But I agree, much better than what we have in football

And if you go top 16, your assured that more than just the Conference champs get in, in most cases.

You would have this scenario.

1. LSU vs 16.Georgia
2. Alabama vs 15. Clemson
3. Oklahoma State vs 14. Oklahoma
4. Stanford vs 13. Michigan
5. Oregon vs 12. Baylor
6. Arkansas vs 11. Va Tech
7. Boise State vs 10. Wisconsin
8. Kansas State vs 9. South Carolina

Which is fine. All the other football divisions, and basketball have at-larges and they work very well.

That way someone who stumbles (ie, Alabama not able to make a single field goal) can recover from that small a mistake and show how good they are.

Not really, a playoff would involve all the Div I-A champs, you're list doesn't include the Conference-USA, WAC, MAC, and Sunbelt champions. If I remember rights, there are 11 Div I-A conferences, so a 16-team playoff would have 5 at larges (Alabama, Stanford, Arkansas, Kansas St, and USCe).

All the other football divisions and basketball function well with giving all the conf. champs automatic berths, I-A wouldn't be any different.

Who says that all the others would be included ?

My idea (and others) was to just use the final top 16 teams in the BCS poll, regardless of Conference affiliation.

Also, getting rid of the Automatic Qualifiers would also be a great idea.

There may be 11 conferences, but only 6 are part of the BSC.

Who says that all the others would be included ?
The rest of Div I-A. There are more non-BCS schools than BCS schools (especially once the Big East loses it's status). The NCAA isn't only the BCS schools. And any such playoff would have to include them. And excluding them from a sanctioned playoff would likely run afoul of anti-trust.

The BCS itself has no official NCAA sanction, and likely never will. Legally it's a private agreement by the member conferences and the 4 bowls, and has no official status within the NCAA.

OK, so using the BSC's poll is OK, why is using thier choice of BSC teams not ?

Probably wouldn't use the poll, probably use a committee, same as they don't with march madness and all the other football divisions.

You'd have to get rid of voters... too much Bias which is why we have the current situation - go to computers only with a over sight committee like a lawfirm to monitor data input with certain checks and balances.

Another interesting stat

SchoolPercentage
LSU43.2
Georgia42.4

What is this trying to say ?
They don't make money ?
If thats what your saying here, thats true, most schools don't make money after all the expenses are taken out.

TCU certainly embarrassed themselves tonight and gave the BCS supporters another example of why they have it right. It was a good game to watch though.
