It's just strange no to have college bowl games on January 1st. That's tradition....

With the way the BCS and ESPN have ruined things, not many games on Jan 1st anyway.Yes, we know....

You don't think maybe it has something to do with Jan. 1 being on a Sunday this year? When have they ever played bowl games on a Sunday? With the way the BCS and ESPN have ruined things, not many games on Jan 1st anyway.
New Years used to be an all day affair, watch the Rose Bowl parade, then settle down with multiple games on all through the day. Now we only get a few, it's no longer the New Years we all grew up with.

Never that I can remember. They have always moved them to Jan 2 when the 1st is on a Sunday.

I know that, and it's always been like that for Sunday New Yeears. I'm talking about how the BCS and ESPN killed the New Years bowl marathon of the past(on 2nd in Sunday years). You don't think maybe it has something to do with Jan. 1 being on a Sunday this year? The BCS moved some of the big ones to after new years, but ESPN moved the rest in order to avoid conflicts in it's schedule. And by grabbing almost all of them, no more having a game on each of the big networks during the whole day.I can understand the BSC killing NY day, but ESPN ?
ESPN has NEVER had the Big Bowl games till THIS year.
Jimbo, didnt ABC have the BCS before FOX?
You didn't seem to have a problem with it when it was the Big Ten that was done the week BEFORE Thanksgiving and waited till New Years day or later to play again.IMO these bowl games should be playing all this weekend up to Xmas and not afterward - too many teams spend too much time idle before playing another game. Stupid to wait at most 4 weeks to have them play again.

Thats the way it was forever, until this last year.
hahaha, that's the excuse some of the Ohio St. people used to explain loses to the SEC in the Championship game.IMO these bowl games should be playing all this weekend up to Xmas and not afterward - too many teams spend too much time idle before playing another game. Please don't tell me you're readying one for the Michigan game?
How long was the break before the ACC Championship game?
But Jimbo is right, it's been this way forever, most teams would play til Turkey weekend and then have a bowl game on New Years.
On the otherhand, we should have playoffs for the 4 weeks after the season (16 teams), then have New Years bowls for the teams that don't make the playoffs, or are eliminated. And also have the Championship Game on New Years as well.
This would be perfect if you think about it - players would then be constantly conditioning, practicing and whatever week to week if they continue to win so it makes more sense to do that than give many teams a whole month off to prepare for a game while at the same time players don't practice or condition as much which can cause more injuries if not ready.
Actually, teams practice MORE during the break.
Most coaches are happy with the break because they get more practice time in.
