NCAA / BCS Bowl Games 2011-2012

Meaningless? Maybe I'm crazy, but weren't those bowl games played before there was a BCS? Wasn't the purpose of the BCS to put the best two college teams in the country into a game to decide who's best? Arguably, aren't LSU and Alabama the two best teams? I'm getting older, maybe I'm imagining things.

Or is it LSU and Oklahoma State ?

That's where the issue comes in, there no way for the 3 to play against one another for the championship.

Teams are quite different now than they were during the season.

Yes, in the grand scheme of things the rest of the bowls are meaningless as the fill roles for teams that cannot play for the championship.
However, who's to sa that in a playoff game scenario, an 8 seed can't kn.ock off a 3 and advance, it happens in basketball all the time.

Except eight seeds don't play three seeds Jimbo LOL! They're on the opposite sides of the bracket.

But I agree with your point.

If its ANYTHING like the other game...yeah it will be but for the sake of the NC game I sure not.

I agree. My DNA says it's a national championship game so I have to watch...but I've never looked forward to a championship game less. Hoping for the best.

However, it could happen down the road, I know what your saying, 1-8, 2-4 ... but 8 could beat 1 and play 3 in the next round

Just because the first game was low scoring doesn't mea the next one wil be, if that was the case, why bother playing a second game for anyone.

Better yet, LSU is the only undefeated team out there, why are we plaing a game forthe MNC, its already determined thru the season !

Pretty much nails it. Only reason a team like Illinois gets a bowl game this year.

And tOSU and Florida

Personally, if I had a say, if you play 12 games nd don't win 8 then you don't get to a Bowl game.
Way to many meaningless participation Bowl games out there.

What I was trying to say was that why do you need a BCS Title Game when you have the Sugar, Rose, Fiesta and Orange Bowl? Like it was mentioned above, they played those games way before a BCS Title Game was even invented so why did they change it?

As I said - lets hope it has a little more action involved than the last game cause it was flat out boring no getting around that.

Because they wanted to make it separate from the other bowl games, not take anything away from them.
PLUS, they get the added revenue $$$$ by adding a new game. (ads, tickets, merch., etc.)

Sure there is.
All a matter of perspective.
Personally, I was on the edge of my seat each play. I would imagine most Bama and LSU fans will tell you the same.

There it is.....and that's what we all said all along. Great for team fans, BUT, it was boring for the rest of the world.

It's a National Championship Game!! We want a SHOW, baby!!! :D

There was a lot of action, defensive action. Why do people think a defensive game is boring? Probably those who's teams don't have any, or those who are jealous their teams didn't make the big game. As it is, I think defensive games are more exciting, as any play could be the one to decide the game.

And the defensive part is why I and many other sec fans were on the edge of their seats.

Any play could have broken it wide open, but the defenses held.

defensive games are as boring as watching a big a$$ rock push another big a$$ rock....

The more I think about this, if the #2 and #3 teams were so close together, there should have been a play-off game between them, and then the winner plays LSU for the title. That would have made a lot of sense; would have been easy enough to schedule, and there would be plenty of opportunity to make a LOT of money (since that's what its all about).

That is a GREAT idea, which is why it will never happen. As you said, someone needs to smell the $$$ and THEN maybe it will....
