What is it about Alabama and having to play in Atlanta?? IMO this Alabama vs VT Tech game should have been played home and home not in a neutral setting as it was 3 years ago. Now they are playing West VA in Atlanta next year...not sure what the problem here is or why the lack of wanting to do a home n home match up?

Money and recruiting. Sucks for the home fans, but its the same reasoning for the Cowboy Classic in Dallas and the new Texas Kickoff Classic in Houston.

Personally, I dislike it whenever these type of games are set up.
Generally it's because someone like Jerry Jones wants MORE MONEY...

I too with they would get back to playing the games at the home stadiums, it would suck to be a fan of these teams and find that you can't go to the game because of travel.

You think these are bad? What about playing in Ireland makes sense and affordable for fans. LOL
I understand (but don't agree with) NFL doing something like this.
But college football??

Marque matchup, out of home area exposure, an experience trip for the players, and most of all money.

The same reasons that Va Tech agreed to play in it a couple of times, and would again given the chance.

That said, I would prefer a home game, but these types of games at the beginning of the season are big money makers.

Money & Exposure. Plus, by playing on a neutral field, they can play more teams for more exposure, instead of the same team twice in a row (home & home).

I don't have a problem playing games on neutral sites. You're going to have an away game anyway. Not if it's taking place of a home game then I would be upset. In the last few years Iowa has played Northern Illinois at Soldier Field in Chicago. I went to both games and it was awesome. If I didn't go it wasn't a big deal since it was still away game. I wouldn't have gone if it was actually at NIU's stadium.

Didn't they have to play offense one way in Soldier Field?

I find it funny how there are now 3 kickoff games on Saturday, yet several teams are playing prior to them.
