why do you keep referring to them as VPI?? .
For the same reason I call the school in Clemson Clempson, or the school in Auburn, Cow College. Georgia Tech Tradition (plus I predate the VT moniker)why do you keep referring to them as VPI?? I mean Its a norm for it to be Virginia Tech as the football team and VPI as the school itself. Not once do they refer to it as VPI during games or tv discussions

There's a U(sic)GA moniker for Georgia, but I never use it since I grew up a Dawg fan before going to GT for college.
Hell, I still laugh when Georgia fans call us the "North Avenue Trade School". I know Jimbo laughs it off when people type tOSU, it's all part of having fun with college football.
But if y'all don't want people saying VPI, you really need to change your fight song
I'm sure most real football fans can figure it out. Like when people say War Eagle, they know who it is, even though their officially the Tigers.Nothing I can do about the fight song...but still just kinda confuses some in a way to refer to it as that when ESPN,CBSSports, any new agency doing reporting or so on for the football team refers to them as Virginia Tech.

Plus, we had it first in the conference.Dude, it's the name of the school. It appears on a diploma. Also, it shorthands the name too (You can't say "Tech" without confusing 3 or so schools).

As it is, most at GT don't like to use the VT moniker, as VPI is a polytechnic university. A lot of the engineering people look down upon those with poly-type engineering degrees, and call them engineering-lite. Personally I don't care about that, as all the engineering technology people are work with are just as capable as those with research type engineering degrees. I use it because it tweeks the VPI faithful, same as earlier mentioned Clempson & Cow College. Plus as mentioned, it's actually the schools official name, and is what's used in their fight song. Do any other schools use a different name for their athletic teams & the school itself? (Yes, CalTech & GT both use tech, but both are Institutes of Technology, and Tech has been short for ...IT for over a hundred years)
As I really don't care one bit about what ESPN does or does not use, no thanks. I'll just use your own fight songwhatever..not going to argue with you about it, just keep it simple refer to it as ESPN refers to it and all is well...no biggy, simple request.
Too bad we don't play y'all any more. That was one of the great SEC rivalries back in the day. Both teams had plenty of names for each other, heck y'all still sing about us.I'm sure Bama is gonna whoop VPI no matter what you call them.

I thought they were playing Miss St.?Miss State makes a road trip to Mobile to play South Alabama. Not a big game on anyone elses weekend schedule, but with Bama having a bye that week, I may make a trip to see the Jags play a quality home game.

Alabama has a fairly stiff schedule.
Kentucky & Louisville have moved their game to the end of the season, so now we'll have 4 in-State. SEC-ACC matchups (UGA/GT, UF/FSU, USC/Clem, UKY/LU).
Tennessee & Vandy have also moved their game to the end of the season as well, so there will be 3 in-State conference games as well (UA/AU, MSU/Ol'Miss, UT/VU).
Next door neighbors LSU/A&M and Ark/Missouri will also be playing the final week.
The SEC really wants to make that weekend a huge in-state/neighbor rival weekend.
