NCAA 2013 Football Season

Which years have you ended up with 4 teams after the regular season that have a legitimate argument?

It's probably happened, and it sucks when it's your team, but my legitimate concern, is that we are just moving the argument from 3rd to 5th and lessening the regular season. Maybe and probably not with this first try but most likely with the expansion.

This isn't the NFL. There are many more teams involved. A simple few team playoff won't fix perceived shortcomings. Not unless other things change. And it's those other changes that I fear will make the college football I love obsolete.

I would have just setup a playoff based off every conference champ and let em have at each other.

Surely you can't think the conference USA champ or the sun belt champ is more deserving than a one loss sec or insert big conference team for the title?

If so I'd love to hear why? And why that would be a better way to pick them than now.

Change has already happened and not for the better. The regular season quit having any meaning a while ago. Leagues are too big, so they can have championship games for more money and ease their schedules by only playing a couple of quality games. With the playoff they see that as a way to get a couple of more teams in a big money game instead of just one or none. The only benefit is we may see the nonconference games go back to having some competitive games instead of spending 3 or 4 weeks pounding some noncompetitive underling by 40 or 50pts.

Do you need me to point the seasons out to you? Its not that difficult to note the last 10 years where at least a 4 team playoff would have made things at least more interesting. You actually think Notre Dame deserved to be in he NC game last year? Yeah right. Bama is good, but they were not that good, ND was just that bad. Like UF last year, they squeaked a lot of games by, and as UF when they played Louisville they were exposed. Shoulda been OK St and Bama at the end of 2011, not the joke that is LSU. Hell, you had Alabama playing in a NC game when they couldnt even win their conference. And before you go thinking I dont like Bama, remember where I live. Im just tired of the wrong teams there at the end of the year. Now let me throw my Noles in there. Win the ACC, and due to stupid deals, we play in NIU in the Orange Bowl last year, complete joke.

5th is a lot better than 3rd (granted I would have done 6) and sure it won't fix everything, but its an improvement! Teams are playing 12-14 games now, losing one conference game for a playoff, or adding a game is fine by me. We could go round and round with this and just waste time. I am GLAD we will have a 4 team playoff.

In the past sure, if they've earned it, just because you made it through the almighty sec with one loss doesn't mean you're any more deserving than another team. (see Louisville, Utah, West Virginia, TCU and Boise) who all beat big conference opponents before most of them were let into the big conferences themselves. However that being said those conferences have now been plundered to where there is a definite competitive difference between the Big 5 conferences and the rest.

Personally, I think it should have been the Big 5 Conference champs and an at large chosen from a play in game between the 2 highest ranked teams from the small guys. That would have made the regular season and winning your conference mean something.

That was my exact thought as well.

Yes please. Make the argument for the last ten years where the wrong teams got in the BCS championship game based on their body of work. There are a few, I'll give you that. It isn't the majority.

I'm not against a small playoff, but I find little fault with the BCS champion teams selected over the past decade.

In any case, its hard to argue it on facts and not to where it would be more interesting after the fact knowing the results

As to nd last year, it's easy for me to say they didn't deserve it last season now. But who would you have put in over them last season before the game was played that was eligible?

Thats the whole point of a playoff! You dont put your whole sack of rocks in two teams. Im not saying the right teams havent been Champs, its the choice of their opponents that keep me wondering. Play off at least makes the 4 compete, and gives you a better chance of having TWO deserving teams playing the last game.

Another fun thing is Im sure we are going to see ol #1 get knocked off in the first game from time to time and not even be able to play for the NC. Now thats fun!

The regular season quit having any meaning a while ago. .

How can you say that. Missouri would disagree at this point. Stanford as well. Countless one loss teams would at this point.

No reason to speak to the unbeatens yet as the season isn't over.

The regular season still means quite a lot imo.

I'm not saying it wouldn't be fun. But it would go back to my earlier post and diminish at least somewhat the regular season as it is now.

Playoffs would be fun but all teams and all conferences are not equal.

Some sorting needs to happen if a big playoff comes to fruition.

Im not too happy with the regular season now. My main team, FSU of course, is treading water in an overly weak conference. Instead of 9 conf games and 3 patsies, Id love to see some more large non conf games during the year.

Another thing I like is those top 4 are not going to be from the same conference, most likely, so it'll maybe give us a chance to see different matchups. Say we ended today. Bama vs OSU and the Ducks vs Fsu. Then the Champ Game. Not strictly Bama vs Ducks.

I would have liked to have seen the top 6 or 8, but 4 will do for now. I know a larger play off system would require dropping season games. Id be fine with 10 reg season games and then the playoffs.

An undefeated Utah showed Alabama, and everyone else, in the Sugar Bowl why they should have been in the championship a few years ago.

And lets not forget an undefeated Auburn a couple years before that.

Teams are doing that all by themselves by watering down their OOC schedules.

The NFL has a 12 team playoff, no one is saying their regular season is diminished.

Does anyone know if the 2 losers in the 4 team playoff will be playing a second game ?

Say every one would work out as the standings are, if we ended today, Bama plays Ohio State and FSU vs Oregon ...
Say Bama beats OSU and FSU beats Oregon ... that sets up Bama and FSU for the Championship, does OSU and Oregon play that next week as well ?

An undefeated Utah showed Alabama, and everyone else, in the Sugar Bowl why they should have been in the championship a few years ago.

And lets not forget an undefeated Auburn a couple years before that.

A playoff would solve that issue, IF they beat the better team they would have the chance to play the next game ... question is Could they do it again week in and week out ?

Wish the Playoff started this year instead of next ...

I do also. Because aside from Alabama, I really think each of the next 3 have an equal shot at the title game. Although I think FSU is the better team just from what I have seen. I think OSU will be screwed because of the teams they play are unusually weak this year. Oregon gets Stanford, and UCLA to pad its resume and shockingly Miami and Clemson are really good this year to help FSU.. The fact Florida is down may hurt the Seminoles and allow Oregon to stay above them. I suggest Seminole fans because Gator fans and hope we win every game remaining so it will help there SOS.

The ranking system sucks when you have so many really good teams. If we had a play off Oregon, FSU, Alabama and OSU would be an awesome tournament to watch.

Who there opponents were? So when Texas or Oregaon or Oklahoma or Notre Dame all recently got beat pretty handily they didnt deserve to be there? About the only time in the last several years where I really thought another team deserved a shot was Oklahoma st but I also understand why the other team got in and well eventually won the title. It was really a coin flip as to who deserved the best shot and each team had an equally valid argument. I do however think the team that got in would have beat OkS pretty handily as that was a world class defense that put half a dozen NFL starters on defense that draft.
