NBA Lockout thread

According to ESPN Chris Broussard...the players really do not wanna go below 52% in BRI and the owners want 50-50 split. Talks ended for the day.

Yep, that's where they left it, and that's where it's gonna stay...probably until January. We'll see if the players can agree to 50/50 in January...

you said it. and it ain't going to change so the players better get it through their thick skulls that its 50/50 or nothing. i'm beginning to see what you've been using as an example with the NHL. i think that's the only way its going to get fixed. and honestly i'm all for it. let the players and the owners suffer without having a full season.

Lotta talk getting someone from the Heat in trouble again, but not a player this time:

The NBA came down hard on Miami Heat owner Micky Arison on Monday, fining him $500,000, according to league sources, after he used his Twitter account as a sounding board about the lockout last Friday.

The league did not issue an official announcement, but an NBA spokesman confirmed to ESPN.com that Arison had been fined.

The $500,000 fine, first reported by Yahoo! Sports, is five times the amount other owners have previously been fined for public comments about the ongoing labor situation.

Interesting, considering that alot of folks think that the owners aren't so divided. Considering that Aronson said very little ... It goes to show you that THE LEAGUE does not want to show any sort division among their owners.

Interesting and put some doubt as to who will "blink" 1st.

Here is the divide. 29-1. Everyone knows that this is the Mickey Aronson lockout, if he would not of circumvented the salary cap last year would would have NBA right now.

You can ACTUALLTY THINK its 29-1....

LMAO!!

And you think he is the ONLY owner that "circumvented the salary cap last year"?

everyone has a right to their opinion.

If a union engineering team invented a hot new succesfull sports car for GM; Would they be "entitled" to 50% of the profits? Of course not!! and neither should be the NBA players!!

You are making the classic mistake...the NBA players and owner do not have the typical employee/employer relationship. It is "collectively" negociated. Owners and players a in a partnership with each other for the 'companies profits'. Very diferent than the average employee/employer relationship.

Arison responded to a poster on Twitter who had directed a comment to him questioning, “How does it feel to be a part of ruining the best game in the world? NBA owners/players don’t give a damn about fans … Fans provide all the money you’re fighting over … you greedy pigs.”

In response, Arison posted: “You are barking at the wrong owner.”

The response clearly fortified the belief Arison is part of a more moderate group of owners, mostly from big markets, who don’t share the opinion of the majority of hardliners who think the NBA needs to keep the players locked out to achieve financial concessions.

Yep...29-1...

Looks like it's not just the owners who are not in 100% agreement...

This past Saturday a story on FoxSports.com titled “Is Fisher in Stern’s pocket?” hinted there was a rift between NBA Players Association executive director Billy Hunter and NBPA president Derek Fisher.

The report, citing an unnamed veteran player close to the ongoing lockout negotiations, stated there were concerns amongst union leadership regarding Fisher’s true motive for striking a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA).

According to the article this led to Hunter questioning Fisher’s allegiance to the union and reportedly confronting the veteran player last Friday.

Interesting...
