NBA Lockout thread

Based on loss of 6 games so far, Celtics' Kevin Garnett has already forfeited $1.55 million.

This will all come down to who can stand to lose more for a longer period of time. The owners are in the drivers seat as they have more money than the players. I'm betting the players cave quicker.

The players knew this was coming 2 years ago. IF...and that is a big IF, they smart. They were prepared.

Reading NBA tweets from players/owners. My thoughts? Either side posturing via Twitter in NBA dispute is disgusting. Average NBA salary is over $4 million. Average household income is $49,000.

It's damned if they do and damned if they don't. IF the players say nothing, they are labeled as players that don't care....IF they do, they are labeled as chronic complaining millions...

i don't know about that. in the case of the nfl, when they were at their quietest (both sides) is when they were getting the most done to reach an agreement. when they were the most outspoken was when both sides were the furthest apart on the issues........ thats what i saw anyway

Totally agree, rey. Nobody is going to think players 'don't care' if they don't tweet about negotiations. Players (and owners) should show respect to the process by leaving it alone and letting the negotiating teams handle it without adding their rhetoric.

It was the opposite Rey. I get twitter from all the major "insiders" in the NFL: Schefter, ProFootballTalk, PeterKingSI...and they were all re-tweeting everything the players were sending via twitter. It was quite chatty.

As much as I agree with you last line....With Twitter, facebook and other forms of networking...it will never happen again. This type of social media was not around when it happened the last time.

Whatever. Just because social media is available, players (or owners) do not have to use it to inflame the situation.

i follow those guys too and honestly i remember it differently. i remember it being just like that at the beginning but not later on when negotiations got serious. i mean they were a couple of meetings scheduled in the last two weeks of negotiations that no one found out until they were already inside together and not a minute before. thats how i remember it buddy. i may be wrong.........

i agree 100% . no valid excuse. you're hurting yourself more when you do this. in their case the players union. same goes for the owners.

EVERYONE is using it for their own purpose/agenda. Things have changed how people communicate and they will use any and all means necessary to get their point across.

I am not going to get in to that here. But he has made over 110 million dollars in his career, so he should STFU about this and other crap.

Please cite some sources that shows that this goober is well respected.

Using your logic...you can say the same about Robert Kraft, the owner of your beloved Pats. He has made that much probably 100 times over...should HE "STFU" as well?

Jumping off the merry go round here. You can comment on how the rest of the world communicates if you like...but I'm going to stay on topic of the Nash comment.

Nash's comment was unnecessary, and can only serve to inflame the situation. That is all.

His opinion and entitled to it....you say that all the time. Now, I do agree WITH YOU that it could inflame the situation...

Sounds like the players moved from the current 57-43 split in favor of the players, to a 53-47 split in favor of the players...and will not go any lower. This is not the only issue...but it's a huge issue.

On Cowherd, he was mentioning one major sticking point the owners have:

The owners want to be "guaranteed" a profit each and every year, no matter what.

Well every single player makes a "profit" every year. But, on the other hand that is the cost of owning a business sometimes, not making a profit.

To me it looks like there is 4 entities battling this out.

Superstar max players vs. Mid level players vs. Large market owners vs. Small market owners.

Superstar max players and Large market owners will always make cash hand over fist.

Please show me any negative comments he made towards D. Smith or any of the players during the lockout.

You only criteria was that he made over $100 million dollars and he should STFU. I mean that to me tell me that just because he made that amount of money, he has no say so.

I am trying to understand why a guy as well respected as he is in the NBA by both players, coaches and owners...should STFU. That is all.

LOL! Nice... the entitlement of a business owner. There isn't a business owner in any field that has that...and the NBA owners want it.... that is priceless. That is just hilarious...LMAO!

Details of the MLB CBA that both the players and the owners agreed to...
